aayla-secura Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 I was able to purchase this set today at my local TRU, unfortunately no other new Sets . 9498 Saesee Tiin's Starfighter Subtheme : Clone Wars Pieces : 255 Price : 39,99€ Figs : 3 1) Box The Box itself is kept very small, altough it could be a little smaller if you calculate that there are only 4 Bags! You can see the features (like the cockpit can detach as a escape pod) on the background. 2) Instruction I was kinda confused as i saw that there are 2 Instructions for such a little Set ? I mean it has only 255 pcs. Why would i need 2 Instructions . On the last 2 Pages you can see the Fig inventory of the new Sets and the new Sets. 3) Minifigs All 3 Figs are new to me and my collection. Even Piell and R3-D5 are complete new Figs - R3-D5 looks like a green R2-D2 for me, nothing special The Head of Even Piel is very detailed with a little bit track like Goblins have them. The Heads of both Figs are surpriseingly detailed - Saesee with his yelloy-red eyes and Even Piell with all his marks and his second closed eye ( i guess thats normal ? im not a CW specialist ) 4) The Starfighter & Building The Starfighter consits of 3 Main Parts : - The Cockpit - The middle of the Fighter - and the Wings All those things are packed in different Bags : Bag 1 : Cockpit Bag 2 : Middle Bag 3 : left Wing Bag 4 : right Wing and..........4 rockets ... yeah I'll start with the Bags as said before, 4 Bags Cockpit is a really clever design IMO.. i like the round built the window let itself close so gently Now the main part of the JSF. Its almost the same construction as the Plo Koon Fighter BUT what i didnt thought is that this Fighter is bigger than Plo Koons ! The 2 Wings are kept very simple, so nothing special here. And here's the finished Fighter I really like the design of this JSF, the green looks very good. Im also very happy that TLC didnt made it like the preliminary pic ( with 2 red wings on the side). Anyway here are the pics and a comparison shot between Plo Koons and this. As written before here is the detach function of the cockpit : 5) Overall Rating The SW Summer starts very good ( for me ) BUT, what is really a nerve is the price. WTF ? 39,99€ That is veeeeery expensive for 255pcs and 3 Figs. You US Guys will definatley have a better deal with 29,99$.. Figs : 8/10 Figs are very detailed and looking good. JSF : 7/10 The Fighter is built like Plo Koons expect the cockpit area. Price : 4/10 That is something i cant live with ! 39,99€ for 255 Pieces and 3 Figs Overall : 6/10 It would be a really great set for 24,99€ or max. 29,99€ but thats really too much! Buy it only if you're really into this Fighter ( and Figs) otherwise i would spent the 39,99 somewhere else.. Quote
Speedboat Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 Nice review, aayla-secura! I agree with you on the price issue. I really want to have those minifigs, but 39,99€ is a rip-off for a JSF-set with no other addons. If I see this at a discounted price someday, I'll buy it, it looks well designed and the green astromech droid is so cute! I wanted to pay my local TRU a visit next week anyway, perhaps they have some of the new sets , too! Quote
Brickdoctor Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 Thanks for reviewing this set. Wow, the packaging seems unusually wasteful, even for a LEGO set. I'm not sure if I like how bulky the fighter's become, but it is smoother. Quote
Kitfistonator Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 Very nice review! I quite like the inclusion of Even Piell in this set but IMO he just looks weird. The price of this set in Germany sounds insane, i'm still skeptical if i'd like to get it for $29.99 here Anyways, great review, also if you manage to get anymore of the Summer sets I look forward to seeing your reviews on them as well. HJR-Holland Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 Thanks for the review; I'm more positive about this set than I was before... Could you maybe make a picture of the parts inventory for us parts junkies? Thanks :) Quote
Eric W. Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 The figs are good looking but I really do not care for both of those characters. It seems LEGO is doing a little better in their building techniques but it still has the quality of Plo Koon's fighter. All I want from this set is that GREEN ASTROMECH!!! Quote
Lego Otaku Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 Stckers... booo...... Any STAMP or just one sticker per piece? STAMP (Sticker across multiple parts) is the worst thing LEGO can do. I like this set mainly for colors and for the fig but I'll wait for good deal first. Quote
JackJonespaw Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 Oh boy, another odd Jedi Starfighter function! Why does Lego want to make the pilot get out of the starfighter? Anyway, nice review of a great looking set! Not only is this dark green, (my second favorite Lego brick color) but the overall shape is much better looking and more sleek! Quote
Vindicare Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 Thanks for reviewing this set. Wow, the packaging seems unusually wasteful, even for a LEGO set. I'm not sure if I like how bulky the fighter's become, but it is smoother. Yeah...first, why 2 booklets for the instructions? And, they could of separated the pieces into just two bags... Seems like a lot of wasted space here. Good review though. You really showed the set and it's details pretty well. Good pictures, too. I like the JSFs, and I'll be buying this to add to the small fleet I already have. It'll also be nice to get another Jedi. Quote
prateek Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 Wow! Reaaally nice set, but a reaaaally expensive one. Quote
Bilbo Baggins Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 Great set, too bad that it uses stickers. Quote
Mr Meleca Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 great review. I counted 9 jedi starfighters (minifigure scale), I believe that is the 10th and more expensive of them all, since 2002, with Obi/Wan star fighter. Can you add pictures of the back of the mini figures and the boton of the ship Quote
lightningtiger Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 Thanks for a great review 'aayla-secura', I actually prefer this Jedi starfighter over all the others....more true to the series designed ships. Plus an exclusive minifig that is in the show for only two episodes before some beast kills him ! Pity they didn't included that beast ? I might twist my arm later in the year when a sale is on to buy one of these....might remodel all my other CW JSF craft to this styling...not sure yet. Quote
Duke of wellington Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 Great review also a few things 1 the comic at the end are they still featured? And alsohow are they there so early the never usually appear in Australia until June mid. and also 1 year we got 1 new set ultra early but the others didn't come for months. Quote
wesker Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 Thanks for the review. Out of curiosity is Even Piell's headpiece made of regular plastic (like Aayla), soft plastic (like Shaak Ti) or rubber (like Watto)? Quote
Duke of wellington Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 I think soft plastic from the pictures cannot wait till jabbas palace and skiff review Quote
Ceroknight Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 Thank you for the review! Better design, but a bit too expensive.. Quote
aayla-secura Posted May 13, 2012 Author Posted May 13, 2012 Thanks for the review; I'm more positive about this set than I was before... Could you maybe make a picture of the parts inventory for us parts junkies? Thanks :) Sure :) Stckers... booo...... Any STAMP or just one sticker per piece? STAMP (Sticker across multiple parts) is the worst thing LEGO can do. I like this set mainly for colors and for the fig but I'll wait for good deal first. Nope. All stickers are on one part. Great review also a few things 1 the comic at the end are they still featured? And alsohow are they there so early the never usually appear in Australia until June mid. and also 1 year we got 1 new set ultra early but the others didn't come for months. I live in AUSTRIA not AUSTRALIA I dont know why, but its ok for me And yes, here are the Comics : Thanks for the review. Out of curiosity is Even Piell's headpiece made of regular plastic (like Aayla), soft plastic (like Shaak Ti) or rubber (like Watto)? I dont own Shaak Ti or Aayla But it feels very much like Watto's Hairpiece, so i think rubber ! Thanks Guys! Quote
Im a brickmaster. Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 Thanks for the review! I love how how the cockpit looks, it seems like every time Lego makes jedi starfighter it gets better! Quote
DFOL Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 When this set was first announced, i went like "not another Jedi starfighter". And seeing the very first prelim pictures didn't do much to sparkle any enthousiasm, the new cockpit design looked kinda awkward in those. But i guess they worked on it a bit more before the set was officially released, because its looking way better now. I must admit it's starting to grow on me, i might actually pick it up if i can find it at a discount. Thanks for the review Aayla-Secura! Quote
goldfish Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 My view, and indeed what looks like the consensus, is that this is rather an average set given the price point and similarity to previous sets. I think there are, just on initial views, quite a few of the other summer sets that I would place above this. Certainly I am really looking forward to the two big sets this summer much more than this one. Quote
Mr Man Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 Meh another JSF. Though this one is undoubtedly the best of all of the Delta series. Quote
commanderneyo Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 This review has sealed the deal for me. Another must have set IMO. The figures are great (even if I already have Saesee Tiin), and as before mentioned, this is the best Delta starfighter, with the new features such as the cockpit acting like an escape pod as well being one contributing factor. Quote
Brinstar Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 This is a difficult one to get excited about, given that its the umpteenth Jedi Starfighter we've had. I must confess to liking the colour scheme, as I'm a fan of green but the simple fact is that this doesn't feel like an improvement over the Plo Koon or Mace Windu variants. What is even worse is that the price keeps going up. This doesn't have the other cool stuff that Mace Windu's had and is much more expensive than Plo's. The Saesee Tinn and Even Piell mini-figs are nice but I already own the former from last years Jedi Shuttle. The latter hardly merits a purchase on its own. There are some good Star Wars sets this year and I have a feeling this one might be sitting on the shelf. They must sell, otherwise Lego wouldn't keep making them but you do wonder if the Delta-7 hasn't run its race by now. Quote
