Fully chromed UCS Royal Naboo Starship

Recommended Posts

Hi

so then it is not a "fully chromed" but massively chromed starship ;) I do not brother Anio in any way, i just would like to know if i am right. If you look at the prices for chromed parts AND keep Legos Executor flat bottom in mind, they would release this as Set also without chromed underside.

Anyway - This MOC is superb, with or without chromes underside.

For my MOC, the reason why the bottom is not chromed is not a reason of cost.

I mean I do not do MOCs to save money. I do what I have to do.

For official set, it is a reason of cost. But this is not the only reason. Restricting the chromed areas also help the eye to focus precisely where the chrome is. That way, you appreciate it even more given that it does not become banal. This is not something easy to explain.

This is rather that second reason that lead me to put chrome only on the top. :classic:

No doubt that if this MOC is turned into an official set thanks to the Cuusoo, the underside will not be chromed.

Thanks for putting this on Cuusoo Anio! I really hope this gets the votes it deserves. Now get those votes in people!

Your Cuusoo link on the frst page seems not to be a working link.

The instruction is now available.

01.jpg

Of course, Frousmoul did it. :)

It was not as hard as the instruction of the Executor or the Juggernaut.

Nevertheless, it is still a professionnal building instruction. :p

Again, Blakbird did the renders on the cover and on the first pages. :)

The price is 10€. It is a symbolical price, and you can give a bit more if you want to encourage our work in the Lego community. ;)

To buy the instruction, you can reach my by PM on Eurobricks or FlickR. You can also email me at setechnic@gmail.com

Nice one Anio! You captured the design of both the ship and the fighter very well, and the chrome is just deliciously shiny!

What a beautiful moc! I would gladly pay 200euros for this set - although the the brick/cost ratio would be crazy

Furthermore the mini Naboo fighter is absolutely superb - a have a soft spot for scale models

As cavegod also mentioned, that even though the set could be bigger it really shouldn't. This scale suits the detail of the real thing quite nicely

CUUSOO here i come! :sweet:

That is a great job. I wish there were some way LEGO would agree to produce the large Naboo ships. This one from TPM is arguably the most notable and recognizable, but I would like to see all of them. I would even take grey metallic parts over chrome, if it meant we would get some of these ships produced.

Thank you.

For fun I did the Naboo Royal Cruiser.

238 parts.

But I wont do it with real bricks. This ship is not iconic enough to be UCS.

Wow... too bad you didn't do this one in the brick as well Anio. You are right about the Naboo Cruiser from Ep.1 being more iconic, but personally i think this design has a bit more character to it.

Compared to reference pics the curved slope on the tail fin seems a bit much to me though. Did you try other options there, like the longer curved piece or no curve at all?

All in all, i think you captured the lines of this craft beautifully! If Lego released this as a set in chrome or even plain grey, i'd pick it up without a doubt!

I agree. And maybe the small yacht from TCW and ROTS.

Yes we know that

This will never be done by TLG. It has zero playvalue, is not an UCS set and TLG does not do chrome anymore

Also, it's ugly. Imho that is

Love too see shiny bricks!

Chrome star ships are very reminiscent of old school sci-fi and the naboo royal starship is really beautiful in chrome!

It would be interesting to see in pearl silver also as that is what LEGO go for in the more modern times!

Keep Bricking!

that is one expensive moc for all that chrome. Had to be done by a custom make becuase lego does mot produce those bricks. way to go oitside that box.

There is a poor mans way to get a similar effect, assuming you don't mind painting the bricks, and only want it for a permanent display piece. There is a company that makes some amazing metal finish model paints called Allclad II. These are heavy lacquer based paints and they need to be applied with an airbrush. But if you have an airbrush, the cost to do something that size is probably around $30. (The chrome paint and the special high gloss black underneath). It's extremely expensive for model paint, but very cheap compared to actually chroming bricks. This is not your normal rattle can hardware store chrome paint. The stuff looks like metal, and it is incredibly thin. Probably the thinnest paint I have ever worked with.

http://alclad2.com/finishes/high-shine/

Those are some of the high shine chrome type finishes. They also do amazing flat toned metals such as aluminum s and steels. The stuff is reasonably robust, but I would not plan on a lot of heavy reuse of the bricks. It won't withstand that much handling. (The is a similar paint called Testors Metalizer. It looks great, but it will never stick to Legos ABS and is so fragile that it would come off in your hands.)

Keep in mind, this is painting the bricks. So definitely not for the purists among us (please don't hit me). But it is a reasonably cheap quick way to work through a concept prototype or get that custom display piece you have always wanted but you know will never be made. (Assuming you are comfortable messing with an airbrush, or know someone who is. As far as airbrushing, it is the easiest stuff to spray that I have ever encountered. Sprays straight from the bottle, no mixing, goes on real thin and levels perfectly.)
