I got this set yesterday, and I have to say it lives up to every positive review I've seen. It would not be an exaggeration to say it's one of the best sets in recent memory.
Thanks to everyone who helped bring Space Marines to 10k! (Look forward to Hyperborea!)

Thanks for the review - I'm not usually keen on 'flying' models as they don't always display well, but this set looks like an exception.

Great review, this set seems decent but not as good as some of the other sets... but Iron Man & Thor are really epic figures  :sweet:

What other sets?  I think this is one of the better Avengers set out.

The box art and published pictures really don't do it justice. If you are looking for a SciFi or genre type " ship" subject, this is one of the best Lego has ever made. Easily on par with the recent X Wing and Y Wing sets. Just a lot of little details that show it was really well thought out, like the brick built pilots seat with headrest. ( easily the best I have seen in Lego).

It looks kinda chunky and toylike on the box. In you hands it looks and feels like a great sleek and believable plane.

Nifty set, but i don't buy system stuff anymore. i have but two complaints about it. first is the fact that the chariot is quite inaccurate,  and second is the fact that the jet does not have the wing rotors. but other than that, it's awesome. oh, and YOU.MUST.SEE.THE.MOVIE. see it, see it!

I do appreciate details like the brick-built pilot's chair.

No, usually the minifigures are responsability of the Graphic Design Team, along with the stickers. I did the model itself. Nevertheless, I think my colleagues did an amazing job with the figures! :)
I do like the widow figure but I checked out her prototype (redder lips, no wrinkles and black eyebrows) and I liked it more. It retains this 'vanilla' effect from lego models back in the day.

I have to agree with the majority here and say this is an excellent set, a lot larger than I thought it would be.

My only niggle is that the technic pins that connect the wingtips were a little loose, and so my wingtips tended to droop a little (no, that's not an euphemism).
It's an easily sorted problem, I just put a spare 1x2 plate under each tip to hold it solid to the rest of the wing, but did anyone else have this problem?
See this? This... is my BOOMSTICK!

I saw the movie. Loved it. I thought the Hulk stole the show.

I believe it was said on page 1 why the rotors on the wings wasn't added. And yes. I wish the wing tips was a bit more stable. But I still liked this set. I would wish Lego would make the F-35.

Isn't the small plane from the Hulk Helicarrier set a sorta kinda F35?

It's supposed to be, but hawk eye doesn't pilot it, after I read the comic it made sense, but I have a nagging question, is the printing on the Iron Man different from the one in the cosmic cube escape??? I bought the cosmic cube escape just for the minifig, and bought a quinjet Iron Man thinking it was different, I read somewhere in here about them being depicting the MKVI AND MKVII Sooo...

They have slightly different prints: the Iron Man in the cosmic cube escape has a triangle on his chest, the Iron Man in the Quinjet has a circle instead. These are representing different versions of his suit.

Theres more to it than different shaped ARC reactors. All the printing is different, front and back torso and legs. So, minus the head/helmet, theyretwo completely different figs.

Good call, I didn't notice all the details till you pointed them out. Does he use both these suits in the new movie (I haven't seen it yet)?

The Cosmic Cube escape set has the Mark VI Iron Man fig. The armor is from the end of IM2 and the first 2/3 of Avengers. It has the Triangle on the front. A small amount of gold on the ribs and a good amount of gold on the legs. The Quinjet has the Mark VII armor from the end of Avengers. It has a circular arc reactor, more gold along the ribs and less on the legs.

There is also a third IM minifig which was a toy fair exclusive and is very rare and pricey. I am not sure if it is supposed to be a Mark IV or V or is simply a representation of a more recent armor from the comics. It has a round center chest arc reactor surrounded by 4 smaller repulsed disks. Very minimal gold trim, and a printed head ala Captain America instead of the helm with visor. I am thinking that it is the main new "hero suit" fron "the Invincible Iron Man" comic.

I didn't notice either till I got 6869 and noticed the leg print was different. I went and got 6867 Ironman. With all the cloning going on in the Avengers sets, it's nice to see they did that.

Anybody modded this so the back part fits Cap's motorcycle? I haven't built my Quinjet yet, but would like to do this, so any thoughts or photos are appreciated.

Great set, and no doubt the Quinjet Iron Man is superior to the Cosmic Cube Iron Man in every way.

There's no feasible way to police/award it, but I'd love to see an EB patch created just for everyone who bought the Quinjet in the past week to get the Hulk fig!!
