Hello everyone! With a home purchase and a wedding on the books for later this year, I've come to the decision to sell my Lego and only collect minifigures.

I've not been collecting for long but have a fairly respectable collection I think:

There is a street of my buildings towards the bottom of this post...

This is what I have built - most of these have been posted on this site in the past. I also have a very large collection of loose bricks that are somewhat organized too that have been collected from buying them for buildings or culled from official sets. Sets I have include the Green Grocer, Grand Emporium, Pet Shop, Fire Brigade, Holiday Bakery and Toy Shop, and The Emerald Night. I also have several duplicate minifigs that would be included also, such as Jabba The Hutt and 10 hazmat guys!

I have no idea how to value this or go about selling it. Does anyone have any advice?

Sorry, I don't know what to tell you, but I think you'll probably get more money if you sell sets seperately (and if you choose to do so, I'd like first refusal for the Green Grocer!! So gutted I missed that set, and interested to see how much you'd be willing to let it go for).

you're probably right - I'm sure I could sell that set alone for more than most people would offer me for 3 or 4 of my own buildings! I was hoping I might manage to not have to go through breaking down my sets though - it's hard enough as it is!

As mentioned by Roger Rabbit, selling individual sets will get you more money. also posting them is easier than sending the whole "street" to your buyer.

also the cost of a whole "street" can be daunting to many collectors.

All the best! I will take a look at your street and see if anything catches my eye.

Edit: cannot find your street. maybe you want to post a list of what you have or a picture of what you have.

His link is a little messed up, pretty sure he's talking about these photos:

I was - I couldn't get the images to load unfortunately >.<

I appreciate the advise everyone - perhaps I will break down and box up my sets, and then just sit on them a bit until they have more value (such as FB and GE being discontinued). I guess I could see my extra parts in bulk on bricklink too...

This thread is relevant to my interests. I am also looking to sell most of my collection (65,000 pieces approx.), which has been built primarily through buying sets. So the consensus is that it's best to sell each set separately rather than part out individual bricks?

I think if someone is willing to buy a certain set, they would pay more for it as a whole instead of buying the individual pieces to build it themselves. After researching GG and CC on bricklink, parting them out is still quite expensive, but cheaper than buying the actual set. But there is certain appeal to buying the set whole and not worrying about the random pieces.

I would say sell the sets first, then sell individual pieces for other sets that aren't worth that much.

According to Brickset, I also have around 66,000 pieces, but I couldn't imagine parting with them.

Since you're not in a hurry, you can just list the set on Bricklink at the price you want to sell it. The value of these sets will only go up, so it will only be a matter of time before someone buys it. Also, the instruction booklets are worth a few bucks too.

Yep, sell the sets because parting out takes too long and you'll be left with bricks that no one would want.
