Oh, I'm gonna check that out in all it's hi-res glory on S@H - cheers Sci.

As someone who just likes the CMS' to scavenge parts from, there's not much of interest to me here, although I am really happy that there's finally a black bowler hat

Where are the arms for the football player coming out of?  *huh* It looks like they are coming out of his shoulder or something?

Edit: Never mind I see it is like the Hockey player

I'm very excited that we finally got some pictures and it seems like that list was accurate! My thoughts on each figure:

1) Alien - Looks alright, I really like the brain/jello piece on the head and it will be nice to get in a different color
2) Cowgirl - I was hoping for a western cowgirl (tan/brown clothing) rather than a more modern, rodeo style cowgirl but I'll probably get one for the hat/hair mold combination
3) Santa - Pretty excited to get a real Santa rather than some weird pirate guy, love the hat mold and the gift sack!
4) Conquistador - Looks awesome! I've always liked those helmets and now we get them in gold, and with gold armor! I'll be getting a couple for sure
5) Bavarian Boy - The new pretzel piece is awesome, the figure doesn't excite me but I like the forestman hat in that color (is it dark green or brown?)
6) Cheerleader - I never got a chance to get the original one so I'll get this for the pompoms
7) Diver - Amazing helmet mold, I will definitely pick one up! Funny that they gave him 1x1 plates to stand on
8) Football Player - I was hoping they would make an actual football piece that he could hold, the trophy is nice but they made the wrong call
9) Pirate - Nice torso printing but otherwise I'm not really interested
10) Fairy - Not quite what I was hoping for but I still like it, I'll definitely grab a couple, especially for the wings (but I really don't like that hair)
11) Businessman - The black bowler hat is all he has going for him
12) Actor - Great figure with an awesome neck piece!
13) Robot - As with the cheerleader, I never got a chance to get this guy so I'll be getting one for the great helmet!
14) DJ - That headphone/hair combination piece looks awesome and I'm sure we'll get it in another color in a future series
15) Bat Monster - I really wanted these guys when I saw the vampire castle but didn't want to pay that much just to get them. This one is great and I'll be getting a bunch! I also really like his face printing and I think its better than the one in the castle set
16) Skier - It's nice that they released another skier but I'm not really interested in her

Another lovely designed, well thought of series.

I am a bit underwhelmed though which is not due the quality of the design, but to my personal (historical) tastes and aims.

The alien queen is a great fig but I won't need it.

The conquistador is of course the army builder of the series. I would like to see his armor and body closer to judge if i can use it for other themes.

I like the German as well, his legs might be interesting for custom figs.

I am disappointed by the fairy. I had high hopes in that. Now she is kitsch and even the wings won't look good on other figs I guess.

The actor has an interesting torso and legs.

So, in comparison to series 7, which had 4-5 army builders in it, I am a bit underwhelmed. That is not a bad thing, it leaves more money for LOTR.

The conquistador's armor will be easy to feel.
Also the divers helmet.

How can anyone say they don't want the evil robot? That robotic arm is in black! Big want! The man-bat will be big for Batman builders that want to show him with the wings from Batman Begins. Is that hat on the Bavarian boy dark green? The new trophy mold is a want.

Well, I'm unhealthily in love with the female alien figure, because of the trans purple and raygun and everything. I like that there's a pretzel in the series too. However, a lot of the other figures, including the pirate, are not up my alley. Even the robot disappoints me, because of the lack of a robot leg (Monster Fighters new design would be perfect) and the absence of a recoloured helmet. Hopefully these two complaints will be remedied before the release. Plus, I never got the original, so I shouldn't be complaining. I am a sucker for purple though, so for once there's a sport figure I kinda like. Even the Shakespeare and DJ figures look nice. I'm glad we finally have one of those bell-shaped diving helmets. Overall, the more I look at it, the more I love it!

All these figures look excellent. The alien queen is a great addition to the Alien Conquest theme. The DJ looks very cool as well, even if his headphones are molded onto his hair. The cowgirl has a nice new hat that might be able to be reused effectively in LEGO Friends if the horseback-riding subtheme isn't over after this year. The diver is something many of us have desired for years (note his boosted-up feet!), as is the Santa Claus, though I can't say that I prefer the sack he comes with to the one from the City theme.

In general, all these figures are very unique. The only ones which are especially similar to previous figs are the alien queen, pirate captain, and cheerleader, and even so they all have their own merits. TLG doesn't seem even close to running out of unique fig designs for this theme!

Hmm... not a bad set. I'll probably only go after 6-7 of these. Some of the choices I just don't need.

Certainly, I'll get: Conquistador, Pirate, Bavarian, Diver, and Evil Robot. Alien Queen would easily be the number one on my list if she was a grey alien instead.

I woke up this morning to see this, and I am far from disappointed. I can forsee myself picking up most of the figures, especially multiples of the actor and the Conquistador. Others, like the diver, Bavarian, and pirate are also due to be picked up.

First thoughts:        *oh2*  *oh2*!!!!! WOW! And you guys thought the DJ sounded lame!!   My first thought at looking at the Bavarian boy: 'Oh my God, he comes with a f'in pretzel!!!!!! So anyway, my must haves are: the Bat Creature, the Fairy, the Thespian, the Cowgirl, the Bavarian Boy and the Alien. And Santa. And the Diver. And.....

Out of 16 figs I can see 10 new parts/moulds (Alien cape, cowgirl hat? santa hat and sack? pretzel, diving bell, trophy cup? fairy wings, ruff, dj hair). This seems quite low compared to previous series where it felt like every fig has something new.

I'm liking the conquistador (looks like his face is gold? the 'ancient' thespis is more of a shakespearean actor/hamlet but the ruff and torso print look great. And no short legs in this series? The bavarian boy, is obviously a man, judging by the moustache, unless they grow up a lot quicker in bavaria. And a new alien head would have been cool, rather than rehashing the ugly AQ one!

I say now that I'm not fussed about collecting them all, but undoubtably will, and hope that series 9 offers us some real 'home runs'. Series 8 feels like a stop gap, they've obviously had their main efforts on the superhero/LOTR stuff.

I've always liked un upcoming series as the first pics surfaced, then I sometimes changed my mind (series 3)
This time, I'm not so excited. Not as bad as the translated_from_Czech list, but surely half as bad.

Trader: not bad, but far from exciting.
Ameican footballer: interesting choice, let's see how different he is compared to the S4 Hockey player. The trophy doesn't scream NFL, but it would have been hard to make a proper ball.
Cheerleader: Why? Seriously, Why?
Female alien: far from interesting, but I only bought the two smaller Alien Conquest sets, so the head piece will be new for me, and the fig will be easy to spot thanks to the slope skirt.
Conquistador: Outstanding.
Robot: see cheerleader.
Bavarian boy: Original, and lovely food piece.
Fairy: I'm not sure I like hair piece and wand color, everything else is great.
Cowgirl: way better than expected
Disk jockey: see cowgirl
Winged Monster: I'll only buy the two smaller Monster fighters sets, so it's not bad to have him here.
Old style diver: see cowgirl and disk jockey
Pirate: eye-patch, hook and wooden leg. What's his name, Captain Original?
Female skier: let's say it's okay. I wonder if future (rumored) series will come with more opposite-gender counterparts to existing sports figs.
Santa: at least he has a new hat and bag / backpack.
Hamlet: best concept in this series, and one of the best in any series so far.
Most overread phrase on S@H: "Sorry, item is not available in this country: Italy."

YES THESE ARE AWESOME! Sorry, but some of the figs here are just too great to pass up. The Female Alien's cape screams "Evil alien overlord".

Kind of underwhelmed, to be honest.

They're not terrible (save for one), but I'd say only half of them feel like must-haves (compared to Series 7 where nearly all of them were must-haves in my book). Very cool to see a proper Santa though, and a Shakespearean/Hamlet actor is exactly what I hoped for. Great to get an "Alien Queen" as an Alien Conquest fan too. I think the most pleasant surprise of all is actually the cowgirl. She's absolutely perfect in every way.

But what the #@%# is up with that fairy? It looks like a bunch of random pieces slapped together with no style, no nothing. I'd certainly like to see some better photos before making any final judgments, but at first glimpse it honestly looks like one of (if not the) worst collectable minifigure so far. So much potential wasted away.
