Hey !

I’m happy to present you my third modular building.

As always, let’s go for the retrospective of this MOC.
For this module, I decided to take the same way than my second one, that means a 32x32 based sized module, with two buildings with different widths.

My first idea was to integrate an old house that I really like.
It is based on this :

I like the modern architecture of this small extension, with the used of steel and glasses. I like to have a look at this house, which is based less than 10 meters to my home.
In the picture below, you can see how I try to make it with LEGO bricks :

I was pleased enough with it, I just have to make it modular.

After having the first part of the module, I choose to build another local house. And to have a contrast with the modern architecture, I decided to take a “art nouveau” house, a kind of architecture which was well implanted in my town, after the first WW.


I already try to capture it in an old MOC. It was an iner corner building :

As you can see, I just built the “tower” of this house.

But now, with a 32x32 baseplate, and without angle, I was able to build it in a more realistic way.
And I came with that :

Like for my other modular buildings, I used a lot of 4x6 windows. It’s not really beautiful but it permits me to used them and to save some parts, which I can used in better ways for other MOC. Maybe, if I still have enough bricks…

The ground floor shows that there is no furniture yet, and no stairs in the white building (too small for one).

For this moc, I used almost all my dark tan pieces!
The integration of the windows in the roof and the interaction between the different roofs give me a lot of work. I tried and tried a lot of solutions. And that reminds me why I love LEGO : you have so many possibilities to build what you want, and there is always a way to do so.
But the only thing that I couldn’t make like I wanted was the dark red woodwork on top of the tower. So, it comes in white…

And last, the family picture of all of my modular buildings :

I can’t wait to make a proper layout with roads in front of each houses, and some nice and funny street scene. I just need more roadplates and hundreds and hundreds of 1x2 and 2x2 grey tiles for my pavement… But one day…

Excellent designing 'alex54', the simple straight lines are perfect for the modern design and that tower on the art nouveau is the bomb !

This building and your others are beautiful. I love the roof on this one, and the modern side section. I love that white 4 wide car too. I use the same design.

Great work - again! Like the others have said, the colour combinations work very well and the roof on that tower is perfect. I also like the balcony out back on the top floor, and it's an excellent idea to have a bit of glass and steel to break up the classic architecture of the other facades. Well done.

This may be your best building. I like the variation of dark tan and regular tan very much. And I can relate to your reasons for using large windows in the back, I did the same when I built an art nouveau house.

I have a look at your gallery. And in fact, it's not impossible to put some stairs in such a small house. I will take some inspiration from your very well detailed interiors!

Great work yet again! I like your ability to mix styles and eras of architecture together seamlessly, just as most cities are in real life. Obviously the tan building is wonderful, but that little mod guy is actually quite clever upon closer look. You managed to make brick-built windows not look like brick-built windows, which is tricky to do. Once again, blogged on Brick Town Talk!

Nice work, agree with other comments about the colour combination, it works very well. Also I like the small red car as part of the street scene, very classic town!

I know that I have a lot of work in furnituring my modular MOCs... It will take me some times, but I want to do so!

I think it's a misunderstanding - in your fourth pic from the top the predecessor to this building is crammed into the corner. I think Pagan's under the impression that your new building is somehow the same as that corner building.

Like with my other moc, I always let some times after achieving a moc before to come back on it. This time permits me to stand back.
So, when I bring out my “art nouveau” house, I decided to put some changes on it, particularly to give the front more relief.
I have changed the type of windows, using the same 2x3 and 2x2 white new windows. It homogenizes the whole aspect and looks more accurate for me.
I modified the details on top of each windows and use the new mudguard (thanks LEGO for this new piece, it’s exactly what I wanted for this moc!).
I have change the color of the roof arch from white to dark red (once again, thanks LEGO to have put some dark red droid arms in the new Dino line!), add some details above the windows in the roof, add a new chimney.
So I’s time now for some pictures :

Even if it’s not visible, I have made some modifications to the roof. The first version wasn’t sturdy enough and the panels fell down too easily for me, making me crazy to attach them each time I touch this moc! So after some tries, I succeed to keep the same look, but in a sturdy way! Yay!

It was a big like before - now you have improved it and as a consequence it is an even bigger like. Above all I really love your combination of the different styles. (My favorite part is still the same btw. - the use of the jumper plates at the facade of the modern building.)

What I would like to ask is: Since you are French - are you perhaps from Nancy, known as the capital of art nouveau in France? Because then I guess you will never run out of ideas. (And I would be quite envious  )

I don't know that I have my own building style. It's always easy to the building style from the other than ours. I'm glad that you like it. As I take some inspirations from others and you, don't hesitate to do the same. It's always constructive to see what the other come with.

You're totally right, I'm from Nancy. And in fact, we have so many art nouveau building here, that I can't lack of inspiration. But art nouveau style is really hard to make with LEGO bricks, because it is based on vegetal and plant movements, with curves, and our bricks are right. I really like this architecture period, I like walking down the street, looking at those nice details here and there on more classical building. But also this movement gave us some very strange and singular houses.
I’m glad that a stranger (or maybe you’re French too) knows my little city!
