Why does the US always have to wait for the new stuff longer than Europe? Serious question.

In terms of comparing Palpatine's Arrest to Jabba's Palace, at least, the new molds play a big part. The Arrest set might have six specific character figures (i.e. not Clones/droids/hired goons) but unless I'm much mistaken (which I very well may be as it's hard to keep track of which Jedi have and haven't been released by now), there are no new molds on them - only new prints. Compare this to the Palace, with a generous dollop of new molds, figures etc. and the price difference starts to make a little more sense.

Though not enough sense to warrant double the price, of course.

TK
The best ( or worst) way to view the price of the Jabba's Palace set. It combines the high prices of the SW licensed sets with the even higher relative prices of the Dino sets ( large complicated custom painted creatures). So in one huge set we get the worst pricing of both worlds. At least they give us a ton of tan bricks to go along with it. Why they would be fantastic to do a moc of... Jabba's Palace! Ummm?  :hmpf_bad:

According to S&H in Oz Palpatine's Arrest will be 149.99, but no problems if it's a TRU exclusive they'll just add ten or twenty bucks because they can.....where's the ACCC eh ? (don't worry only us Aussie's know what the ACCC does.)
If you look carefully at Skywalker's transport the front stickers leave an ugly gap...but trust an adult to notice that a kid won't care.
It will be interesting to read the first review of this set as I wonder what trips the window to fall out....I can see a lever mechism ?

Not true at all. The US got the Lord of the Rings sets back in May. Europe will have to wait until August.

Staggered release is probably better for production: it means production of a (popular) wave of sets can be spread out more between factories. So you can have one factory (in Europe) making Star Wars sets while the other factory (in the US) makes LotR sets. It makes it a lot easier to swap a single new / unique mold (for example, the Jabba the Hut mold)  between the factories, without needing two of the same mold, due to both factories making the same item at the same time.

Lastly, Sidious's hair! Why does TLG think it looks like this! I get it for the CW version, but this movie version should have white Jace Malcolm hair. It would look way better.
I agree. It would be perfect for a movie version of Dooku as well. Hopefully they won't get lazy when they get round to updating him.

I think the hair is based on his Ep1 look, here senator palpatine:

and here chancellor palpatine from ep2 and 3:

I think the hair works for him, except the color which should have been white or grey.

I agree with Artizan on the hair. I always saw it as being more grey or white in Episode III, although it can be hard to tell.

I hate to change the subject (and MODs feel free to move this) but I have been wanting to complete my Jedi collection and I was wondering if anyone here knows if all the Jedis from the first three episodes have been made in non-CW form. Such as Aayla Secura, Luminara Unduli, Ki Adi Mundi, etc... I know that Plo Koon has been made in non-CW form, and Kit Fisto and Saaesse Tiin are in Palpatine's Arrest but what about the others? Thanks in advance.  :classic:

your arguement is invalid because all the new mold are produced in china, not in europe or america.

Bariss Offee is the only other non-CW Jedi thats been released in recent years. She came in the 8091 Republic Swamp Speeder.

http://www.brickset....ail/?Set=8091-1

There was also a Luminara Unduli back in 2005, but the printing is dated by todays standards and she was only available with a light up lightsaber.

http://www.brickset....ail/?Set=7260-1

Ki Adi Mundi, Aayla Secura, Eeth Koth, Shaak Ti and Quinlan Vos are only available with Clone Wars printing.

Funnily enough, although you might be right about the new conplicated/prepainted molds coming from China, it makes my argument even more valid. It means the factory doesn't have the capacity to produce enough Jabba's for both the US and the rest of the world. So they first provide enough molds to cover one half of the market (be that US or EU & Australia), before switching around two months later to cover the other half. Because TLC doesn't want to leave half of the world 'dry' of new sets while providing two popular competing waves (SW & LotR) at the same time for the other half, marketing and distribution is staggered, so both halves of the world get different products in turn, with two or three months in between so they do not compete with each other too much.

Anyhow, even if all that is only part of the story or even simply wrong, and whatever the reason, the fact still is that the LotR sets already prove that it was a dumb notion thinking 'the US always gets stuff last', which was the point I effectively disproved.

Not all new molds are produced in China, anyway. High-detail pieces like minifig parts and Jabba might be, but I'm sure other parts (such as the new brackets) are able to be produced in the other factories.

And moreover, new molds aren't the only part of production. Existing bricks in new colors and even bricks which already exist in other sets all have to be manufactured for a run of new sets.

Is this true or just your speculation? Not to call you a liar, but I'd like to see a source.

I thought this part already showed it is all speculation on my part. Educated guessing at best. But it wasn't the point I was trying to make anyhow.  :hmpf:
Anyhow, I'm sure a mod is going to come along soon and remind us to stay on target!

I must admit that I am very impressed by this year's exclusive sets. The more pictures I see from 'Palpatine's Arrest,' the more I want, although that price is fairly steep. The Mandalorian Shuttle is pretty cool as well. Love the color scheme!

I didn't notice until now that the doorway and the landing pad can be swapped out in Palpatine's Arrest.  I think I prefer the look in the second picture- doorway in the middle, with the landing pad off to the side.

I love the set, but have to admit that it seems rather incomplete.  Maybe it's the fact that in the films the room is an enclosed space (with the warm colors, red, gold, black, etc. making it seem much more enclosed), but the set itself is so open.
Never tell me the odds!

Thank you all very much for the information and the pics! :classic:

Jabba's Palace and the Skiff are a must-have for every real Lego OT fan!

Apart from that at - at least at one side - walls are missing, Palpatine's Arrest does really look amazing! It's a pity that I decided to only buy OT sets (but more is absolutely not possible)! :oh:

A review of Jabba's Palace has been done by IdS user NoIR DsIR.
Sidasa also finished his review of Palpatine's Arrest.

I don't know if there have already been reviews about those sets, but we got some more for a couple of days now, like Gungan Sub or Desert Skiff. If you're interested, take a look at our reviews forum. http://www.imperiumd...splay.php?f=250

:sceptic: a little disappointing, however the non CW faces are a treat!

Thanks for the links Bane. I really like Jabba' Palace, but the price is crazy - I'm going to have to wait for a decent sale before I consider buying it.  One plus is that it makes Palpatine's Arrest look like a total bargain, I'm actually looking forward to paying full price for it!!
