Hello everybody !

It’s time for me, after a very long moment, to share with you one of my latest MOC.

After some times and times working on my layout, I came with that :


All those houses were made in a scale between classic town sets end modular building sets, with open back. This choice was a good compromise between details that you can put and less pieces needed compared to a modular building.
But with all those houses, I don’t have any new ideas or challenge to build something new. I don’t have this feeling to overpass myself trying something else. And without that feeling, I don’t have the envy to make some mocs…

And one day, I discovered here the pictures of the upcoming petshop set. It made me want to rebuild my official modular buildings (café corner, market street, green grocer, grand emporium but not the fire house, that I really don’t like…). Ok, but if I do that, I have to destroy my reduced versions… And why not to try building other modular houses? Maybe it’s a good idea… But I have to accept that I won’t be able to upgrade all of my houses… I don’t care about this and go on. So after taking some pictures of my houses to remember how I made them in case of, destroying all that stuff, storing all those bricks, I started to rebuild the official modular building before starting my own modular house…

After those first steps, it was time to build something. And my first choice was to upgrade my yellow house.
Back in time, in 2007, my yellow house looked like that :


In 2008, I just have given it some minor modifications :


And in 2009, another light restyling :


I decided to keep the general look of this house, with its classic architecure of the 1900’ and I came with that front :

We have the firts floor (I don’t know what kind of shop it will be :a library or a book shop, why not?), a second and a third floor with a pergola :


My first try with this pergola don’t permit to have a good playability, with a not so easy access to the terrace. Si I decided to make it removable :


And now, some interior shots. I don’t put any furniture for now, maybe it will come later…

I’m very happy with my first modular moc experience! As I suspected, building in a modular scale needs a lot of pieces! I used more than the half of my yellow bricks in stocks to come with that house! I realized afterwards that I don’t have as many bricks for mocing!...

That is a very nice building 'alex54'.  
The grey stone work on the first floor looks good. That is also a very interesting use of the binoculars.

Alex, this is truly a thing of Beauty. My houses are plain and simple in my train diorama, except for the one that Jedimaster-syfodias designed. I have a great admiration to all who design original Lego models and a great respect for those who create masterful architecture. I bow to a Master Builder, well done Sir.

I can understand why you would hesitate taking that street apart, it's wonderful. So many different buildings and different colours, and still they go so well together! But I guess sometimes the bricks are needed for other creations...

The modular building style certainly is an even more impressive scale. The yellow one is a really neat design, and the balcony is a particularly nice touch. However, as you say, you need to make an interior for it - at least for the ground floor, as it looks terribly empty in that last picture. That probably has to do with the fact that the window is trans-clear and so big that you're able to peek straight inside :)

One aspect that I have missed to write about this house is the different shade of yellow. I used some old and new pieces and it appears that there is a lot of shade (more or less green, orange, solid, translucent…). You can’t see it clearly with pictures, but in real, it is obvious!
But I try to find the same shade for the street font. It’s not as important for the other fonts, especially for the side which be hidden by other modular buildings.

It's so great to see you back in action! I even blogged this! Thanks for the in-depth discussion about how you build and how you decide what scale to build in. The overall layout looks amazing! I can't say enough about it, but since this topic is about the Yellow house, I'll stick to that. It's perfectly your style. I love it. It reminds me a sophisticated classic style. Very nostalgia, but expertly built and simple interesting architectural elements added. Way to use binoculars!! It's fascinating to see the evolution of the MOC itself. Thanks for taking us through it's history. It's inspiring and fascinating to learn how other people build. I hope to see more from you soon. Great to have you back.

Nothing really news, I just put some very small modification to my Yellow house.

I just put more grey bricks on each sides to make them more beautifull and more finished. I know that the sides will not be visible when other modular buildings will be put aside, but I like to have a building which looks great alone...

I've been trying to design a nice yellow building on and off for months, and I always end up coming back to this creation for inspiration.  It's beautifully done, and all of the changes that you have made over time really improve upon your original build.  I don't suppose you have made an interior for it yet?

I have shamelessly stolen parts of your design for a yellow modular myself. Thank you for the inspiration - will post my result soon! :)
(Allthough it doesn't quite live up to your standard! ) I am working on giving it a full interior, but it might take some time. When you start cramming stuff inside, space seems to dissapear swiftly!
