Well this is what i have designed so far in ML Cad now i know someone if gonna say i'm just ripping the BSB off and where that might be true i still think this frigate is a nicely designed ship had i thought about it more i would have made two levels and had twice as many cannons and it would have been quite the sight to behold.

here are some pics

http://www.brickshel...s/starwind8.jpg

she's still in dry dock and i am in the process of accquiring the hull at which point i shall begin construction and the design may be revamped but just tell me what you think oh ML Cad would put in the pieces for the rigging thats why there is none and no sails like I said a work in progress.  When completed the ship could measure about 3.5 feet long.  i think i am going to make a slight adjustment to add 3 tops sails to the last three masts but i dont have any lego with that small lego sail and was wodnering if anyone did have it and could upload it to scale or something.

Welcome to Eurobricks Admiral Starwind!  You are the first user to create a new thread in the Pirate MOC sub-forum, so well done!

You seem to be progressing nicely with this vessel, is this to be your flagship given that it has the same name as you?

Yup it's gonna be my flagship until another bigger ship is built lol well i just wanted to try somethign different it started out as a 7 masted ship but that wasn't working so now it's a 4 masted ship which if i'm correct and i'm probably not so someone will correct me on this one but i don't think in the world of brickshelf, eurobricks, or bricklink to my knowledge have i yet seen a 4 masted ship executed.  So it should be a challenge the only thing i'm sad about is after seeing your fellas ship the amount of cannons and decks on the ship seems somewhat lacking.

Well Admiral I wish ye the best of luck in sucessfully fulfilling your challenge!  I'm yet to build my first ship so I can't offer you much advice in this department.

HMCS Her Majesty's  Canadian Ship as we canadians are no longer part of the united kingdom our ships still bear their marks if the traditional honorary HMCS to honor the mother land, or something like that(hahaha)

You're one of Evil Willy's fellow country men then!  He'll be pleased to know about that!

Since you're designing this ship with ML Clad do you think there will ever be a point in time when you actually build it out of LEGO?  Obviously when you build something with a computer program you've got unlimited parts of whatever type you desire, but its also nice to have the real thing too.  Of course that costs money!

For many users here 150 USD is a lot of money!  But if you've got the funds then go for it!

The dream?  You mean the dream of creating a 4 masted ship or the dream of owning a Skulls Eye Schooner?

4 masted ship

see the point of the ship was to balance out the lego universe cause the pirates had all the big ships and the imperial guards had tiny more manuverable ships but no frigs or even dreds which i find to be an over sight IMO.

Due to somewhat of a miscalculation on my part and error in part loading on ML Cad's part i had to revamp the starwind design although im sure at first glance no one will know the difference.....but the masts here raised onto platforms and the railaings near the sterncastle were extended shortening the run off of the stern castle slightly but for the best i think.  with the addition of the plates to hold the masts up it is forseeable that i might mount cannons on the deck of the ship but i am not sure what do you guys think?

Interesting, i cant seem to find a picture of a 4 masted ship that wasn't schooner rigged, so i don't know what they actually look like, i tend to stick to smaller brigs and light frigates in my research... I did find a picture of some 4 masted ships which were square rigged, but the fourth mast was a a small mizenmast and not much of a mast at all.... do you have any pictures you are basing this off of?

also, on cannons.... i love cannons too much, it is way to expensive to outfit ships for me. Your ship would be VERY expensive with lego cannons... that is if you gave yourself any more gun ports (you were saying you feel like the armament is light) at 3-4 dollars a pop on bricklink cannons don't come cheep.  Its up to what you prefer... i dont know if anyone would hold it against you if you kept her light!

also... i love that you did this in L-cad (or isnt it?) out of curiosity... can that program break this ship down into a parts listing? that would be sweet feature... one that i may start building my ships on if so...

cant wait to see the real thing!

Yeah according to my calculations and the latest BL prices its gonna cost about 26.40 USD to outfit the starwind with her guns having said that......she may only get one or two guns at a time hehehe.

The starwind is being based off of what lies in my head for to my knowledge there hasn't been any 4 master ship ever made either well not in the sense or way that i am making it with full sails on all four main masts.  As far as i can find this is the closest ship that fits the bill http://eng.mstu.edu....ov/image1.shtml and even then it too dissapoints me for granduer....having said that being up close to these monsters of the sea does not dissapoint me.  I just want to make a new monster hehehe.

LCad had i actually learned more about it before building the ship first actually allpws you to build your models in stages and then generates instructions so you can have it in a step by step process.  Now will i break the starwind down and start from scratch so i can do this? no but having said that my next ship if there is one will be done this way so that everyone can share in the fan of building it.

Yup LCad does break it down into a parts list in fact dromroll:

728 Pieces later and you too can build the starwind:

I lied after posting that one I found a 4 master described as THE WORLDS LARGEST SAILING SHIP http://www.guinnessw...?recordid=43702

check it out.

BUT

in came in second to my research of finding this beauty

http://www.boats.com...Ship/10155.html

now my ship seems kind of small.

Perhaps I shall build a 5 master someday that would be my next goal.

PLu i found that after building the starwind with real cannons i am going to settle for home built cannons and you all should check out these

Well after careful consideration and realizing guns are too expensive and going with home made guns the HMCS starwind has been scrapped BUT only her top decks i am currently in the process of redesigning her and should have a completed product soon.

ARRGH YES BASTARDS and yer cool ships lol it's kool actually you guys pushed me to push the envelope of my mind, thanks.
