Beware! For some say there be zombies in the Captain's Cabin, or so the name be... :jollyroger:

Join me in unlocking the real secrets of the Captain's Cabin in this exclusive Eurobricks review of LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean, On Stranger Tides set, 4191 The Captain's Cabin.

A little bit about this small jewel of the line:

Set Number: 4191
Set Name: The Captain's Cabin
Theme: Pirates of the Caribbean
Sub-Theme: On Stranger Tides
Release Date: April 2011
Pieces: 95
Minifigs: 3
Price: $11.99 (USD) from TRU
Special Pieces: Globe, Round Map Tile, 2 Ships in the Bottle, Sword Sling

So we start this little pirate review on the back of the boX (X marking the spot):

Posted Image

Three small bags upon opening, not including the instructions, card, and poster contained within another bag (not pictured):

Posted Image

If you be a sucker for exclusive LEGO cards, this set contains the Jack of Jacks, Jack Sparrow:

Posted Image

Now for a look at one of the gems in this treasure of sets, the two section globe:

Posted Image

The three beautiful minifigures contained in this set:

Posted Image

Not even realizing after attaching, two of the heads have additional faces:

Posted Image

And their hair pieces:

Posted Image

Another anticipated piece is the sword holder/sling.  I had trouble sliding the sword in completely due to the LEGO lettering on the sword, so did not want to force it in:

Posted Image

The first component is the map table. Skellie legs are attached to a small steering wheel which turns when attached.  The round map tile is NOT a sticker:

Posted Image

I really like the globe stand and the globe does turn when attached.  I would have thought that it comes off, but does not:

Posted Image

The last and largest piece of furniture within the cabin is the Bottle Rack. This must be something from a movie scene for I find the entire component a bit odd. It is orginal though, and I can't see the average LEGO Pirate fan creating this without a set like Captain's Cabin:

Posted Image

Two hinged pieces can be moved downward to show the Ships in a Bottle.  They do not fall off when slanted downward but can slide out from the sides:

Posted Image

I think the printed Ships in a Bottle are just fantastic!  What's that ship look like?  Is that the Queen Anne?

Posted Image

Additional arms and extras:

Posted Image
NOTE: One sword (shown above in Sword Sling) not shown.

I thought I would try some of these furnishings in the cabin of the Queen Ann. Here's the map table - not much space in the cabin:

Posted Image

And the Globe Stand at the helm:

Posted Image

I won't bother trying the much larger Bottle Rack.

So the questions about this set is Do There Be Zombies Here?

I did a little research on LEGO SAH's web site, as I'm not familiar with the On Stranger Tides story or characters.  I discovered that the two minifigs are in fact zombies.

-Yeoman Zombie (minifigure with hair piece)
-Gunner Zombie (minifigure with sword sling)

So this set is in fact a Zombie set, but I think Captain's Cabin is more appropriately named.

Thoughts About Captain's Cabin

Overall, I think this set is a little pricey for $11.99 (USD), although I purchased for half off after buying a few other POTC sets. The pieces are beautiful, esp. the globe, ships in a bottle, and round map tile. I find the figures equally nice, although the same two pirates/zombies are contained in the Queen Anne (so now I have duplicates). LEGO should have offered some different figs as I can see many who will buy this set as an add-on to the Queen Anne.  I'll have to look at them closely to make sure they have the same printings. Compared to other $10-$12 sets like Indiana Jones (IJ) Jungle Duel (7624) or IJ Motorcycle Chase (7620), this set just doesn't have the same amount of play value. The pieces are nice, and it's not a bad set, just not much in terms of play.  I rarely pass on a $10-$12 set from any theme that I like, so I still think this is a "must buy" for any Pirate fan, esp. with the globe, bottles, and other minifig parts.  A lower price point would probably change my overall opinion.  I think I'll give this set a 3.7 on our 5 point scale rounding to a 4.

I hope you have enjoyed this review.  It will be interesting to read other thoughts.

A great review of a great set!
I was just thinking how to combine this set with 4159? You have already answered me. :pir_laugh2:
I love the globe and the map. They are wonderful!

Scorpiox is definatly buying this! I  :pir-wub: the new scabbard piece I've wanted LEGO to make one for years. The black hair is always welcome and the globe is a must-have!

Noice. It seems Licensed lines always have better small sets than in-house lines, and this is no exception. I like the piece count on this, but I agree that there isn't much play value.

Thanks for the great review, Brickster! This is a great little parts pack, I may just get it. The globe is an excellent piece, and so are those bottles. I just wish that this set came with a non printed bottle. Thanks again for the review!

Thanks 'The Brickster' for this review, one worth it for the figures and the new accessories - wine bottles (of course a ship in a bottle....but it will do for an empty bottle of Tall Ships port  :pir-devil: ) and that Globe - AWESOME ! :pir-grin:
Can't wait to get these in my collection and keep on sailing the high seas ! :pir-wink:

I think almost the same about this set as I think of the other sets.
I don't find them very interesting in terms of contstruction, price or play value.
But if I had the money, I'd bought most of the sets, but right now I think I'll just buy some seperate pieces when they are on BL.
IMO, the most awesome thing of this PotC line is the new parts, and I really want those.
Thanks for the review!

Great review!
I too am disappointed in the duplicate zombies, especially since the Gunner Zombie (no hair) comes in this set, the QAR (as you stated), AND Whitecap Bay. If only he was replaced in one of the two other sets by the chubby-looking no-hair zombie in the QAR, or a unique one.

It would be possible for the quartermaster zombie to be in this set, but I like that he is rare. Also, it is kinda nice to get more of the normal zombie crewman, because then you can kinda build up and 'army' of sorts.

Anyway, great review! I really like this set, and I plan to get it, but after the new film has come out. I know a lot of the spoilers are already out and about, but I would like to know the whole story before I get the new sets. I love the new globe piece, though! Just gorgeous!

In my opinion, this set is really lame.  I can't imagine what the draw to this set is besides Cap't Jack, the globe, the ships in the bottles, and I guess the printed pieces.  The set itself is near garbage, and when am I gonna use zombie pirates?  This set is really sub-par

I like it because of the amount of nice new pieces like the globe, map, etc.
Sets like these are almost never good because of their design, mainly for the parts. Thanks for the review Brickster! You've been frontpaged again. :pir-wink:

Cool. Lot's of good parts. I'll probably get about 10 of these if I can. I mainly want the sword holder, globe, and ships-in-bottles. SO cool!  :pir-cry_happy:

That globe is somethin' else. By far one of the best pieces I think TLG has released in a long time. Great set too, especially for a licensed, in terms of parts to price ratio. Thanks for the review Brickster.

Just picked up this set at TRU and definitely worth it. So far, it's the cheapest set to get a Jack (my son's wish) plus all the great parts. The globe put it over the top for me...I agree that it's one of Lego's best released pieces in a long time.

Thanks for the review, Brickster!

I simply love all the printed parts in this set.  I particularly love the 'ships in the bottles' and the globe.  It's a shame that there isn't more room in the QAR for all the elements to be placed in.  It's kind of odd to have the captain's cabin separate...

Though I'm not one to go buying multiples of sets most of the time, this is something I'd love to get duplicates of so i can stock up on the lovely parts (when it's on sale of course).

just fyi, the ship in the bottle is The Black Pearl. In the fourth film, Blackbeard uses his magic to shrink the Pearl and put it in a bottle.

For me it was actually one of the most anticipated sets. Still one question:
Are the bottles solid plastic or not? What is actually inside?

Another great review The Brickster! For a small set I really like the new elements this has to offer - two bottle pieces, a globe, and some interesting printed pieces - all very useful even for non-pirate MOCs. The minifig line-up is good, and even the globe holder and bone shelf are very well done. A great buy for 12 bucks IMO.
