I think it may have had to do with the fact that now all the gold matches, like on the gold cap pieces laying all around, the gold bars with the 1 center piece for the diamond or Jack to stand on. But then that little kryptonite looking thing is chromed gold so maybe I'm wrong.
Got this today, maybe my favorite lego set, its so cool for how small and compact it is, great figures, great play features, all around a terrific set and value and it sits well on my desk.

Elizabeth is great. The hairpiece they gave her is my favourite female hairpiece yet! I have already made a moc based on the scene, and am working on posting it up on here soon, possibly today!
Also, I got the new pearl coins. Kinda glad about it. They look cool.

The minifigs are beautiful, and now I have a rowboat! And coins! And did I mention the minifigs are beautiful?
As a newcomer, my opinion on the chrome vs. pearl gold money is this: now all the pearl gold things that are supposed to be gold in every other set - goblets, plates, 1x1 round pieces and whatever else you've got - actually look like gold. The contrast between them and the occasional chrome gold piece was rather jarring. Overall, the chrome gold does look shinier, but I'd rather have the uniformity.

The figs are the reason to buy this set, Elisabeth is my favorite female fig ever (together with Ginny Weasel). The skeleton Barbossa is superb.
The set is of a reasonable size and the build is a done deal, not shorter or longer than you can planned. The only real disappointment are the "golden parts" like the gold brick and the coins...
Overall a great addition.

As for the coins, I bought this set in germany and they were all perl gold as are the bars. The price is a bit high but I think the fountain set is a lot more overpriced.

Pros:
Minifigs - of course
New baldrick - sword hanging thingy
Rowboat
New Compass 1x1 tile
Cons:
Not chromed gold as pictued on box
Dress printing does not line up
Price - This costs twice the amount of a SW Battlepack. It has the same number of figs (sure, great new molds and prints, but one is a skeleton) and about double the amount of pieces (again, a rowboat and some new stuff, but still). One of my main reasons for paying for this was the new, chromed gold bars... Let's see what S@H replacement service says about my complaint!

i like the minifigs on this set, both jack and the female minifig.
the 2 other wearing the series 4 musketeer hat not so much, though i like the blue hat feather.
i like the boat. i prefer the treasure chest like the one piece type with hinged cover.
the revolving part or mechanism i find cool. and the apples.
as a suggestion to whitefang, try google picasa's auto contrast feature. it will certainly bring out the colors on your photos. i hope you don't mind me suggesting. i'm really a fan of your great and comprehensive reviews.

Set Review: 4181
Isla de la Muerta

As I've siad before I'm not big on set reviews but this was a must:
Stats:
Price: CAD 24.99
Pieces: 152
Actual Image

Pros:
Johnny Depp Minifigure.
Cons:
Everything! Note the fact the chrome gold pieces as shown on the box ARE NOT CHROME! Lego is getting some hate mail today! :x
Summary:
Don't buy it. It's crap.
Letter sent by Rook to Lego.com/customer service:
Quote
The fact that the chrome gold pieces, as shown on the box, ARE NOT CHROME! Lego has scammed me! This is FALSE ADVERTISING and must be rectified! Your product DOES NOT match what was shown and therefore why I decided to purchase this product! I bought it solely for the new chrome gold bars pieces and when I opened my box what did I find. Non-Chrome pieces! And the gold chrome coins were of course also not chrome.
This product is a hoax! A lie! A falsehood! Lego must recall, replacement, or other wise notify and rectify this to all customers. Lego should be willing to fix this by: customers may get their money back at store purchased with receipt (if not Lego Store or S@H) even if box is open and half the pieces are missing, a credit to their VIP account for the full value of the set if purchased at Lego Store or S@H, or if customer emails Lego's customer service /complaints or missing pieces and asks for the proper parts that are shown to be chrome on the box, to be shipped to them free of cost.
I’ve seen slight box errors like this in the past. I understand products and factory procedures change, but to introduce a new piece (the gold bar brick) and then to have it not be what it appears to be is simply robbery to the fan community. You literally suckered me into buying this based solely on a single new type and color of piece that is NOT in this product.

Nevertheless, it seems that some people received those chrome gold bars (like the poster before me). I've seen them in a RPG/Mafia as well (can't remember which one). That annoys me even more. Why do some people have the luck to receive those and some not?
