Dr. Bloodbrick's Asylum - Sign In/Discussion

Recommended Posts

Congratulations to all those who've made it into the game, and my apologies to those who didn't. People's participation in Eurodina was a big factor in deciding, and I also wanted to give a chance to some new players without experience.

This is the official soundtrack to Dr. Bloodbrick's Asylum:

asylum3.jpg

A crow's caw fades off into the distance. On a desk, a document is placed.

brickpaper0.png

It's a cold crisp New Year's morning. The sun is in the sky, but still the sky is somewhat gray. Here and there, flakes of snow fall. A sinister murder has occurred. Most definitely, there is more than one killer. In the hallway, in a broomcloset, Fred 'The Walrus' Siggy hung upside down, blood dripping down. The nurses and doctors on staff took care of the body, and tried to figure out what had happened.

Outside, a squirrel scampers along the branches, knocking some snow off and the sound of snow dropping reverberates in the yard.

The patients shuffled about, and took their meds, while the morning staff tried to keep a cool composure despite their obvious stress. Then, hospital administrator Dr. Blutziegel opens the door to the ward and addresses the inhabitants.

The Rules

1. There are two opposing sides in this game, the Insane and the Sinister Insane. The Sinister Insane win when they outnumber the Insane and can kill Dr Blutziegel. The Insane win when they’ve killed or lynched all of the Sinister Insane.

2. Each day, the players will vote out one amongst them by lynching the member with the most votes. One vote can cause a lynch. To vote or to take back your vote, you must use the following sentence in your post: vote: character or unvote: character, using bold letters. If you want to change your vote, you must first unvote before the second vote is calculated. If you can't or don't want to vote, you may proxy your vote to another player by using the following sentence: proxy: character. Proxy lasts a single game day, and you can unproxy using the sentence unproxy: character. You may not vote for yourself to be lynched. Your own proxy vote against you will not be counted.

3. Days last 48 hours. Voting begins when the day begins. No waiting is necessary. It ends after 48 hours. Voting can change up until that final moment. Days will start and finish around midnight, Japan-time. Calibrate your clock accordingly.

4. Every player will receive a PM letting them know their positions, and possibly their abilities. These are subject to change, and are part of the game mechanics, and should be treated as such. You are expected to role play until the end of the game.

5. The night abilities have a pre-specified order of effect. ie. role-blocker supercedes killer, so if a role-blocker targets a killer as the killer targets the role-blocker, the role-blocker will live. This list is predetermined and will be revealed after the game has finished. When the day ends, you will have a posted amount of hours in which to submit night moves. The night should last either 24 or 48 hours, depending on my schedule.

6. The Day-topics are meant for active players only, so do not post in them if you are dead. The Discussion-topic is open to everybody to comment on how you like the game, but please do not post anything that might influence game players actions.

7. Do not edit your posts. If you make a mistake and want to correct it, just repost it with an 'Excuse my nonsense above, I meant to say...'

8. Do not directly quote anything I’ve sent to you via PM. Please use your own words, and never post unpostable information, as listed in the PM. Claiming roles in thread is forbidden. Describing roles is okay. (ie. "I'm the cop!" is verboten. "I went through his stuff last night." is perfectly fine.) Do not directly quote other people's PMs. In this game, there is only 'talking,' so there is nothing to quote.

9. PM players as much as you like, just don't call them Potato Messages. No potatoes allowed to inmates. Please be inventive, using your own phrases, like, "Let's speak in the corner."

10. I will be using two voices in the game, the game runner and Dr. Blutziegel. The game runner's rules will always hold true, and be written in plain text. Questions about game rules should be addressed with me via PM or the discussion thread. Hospital rules may be asked in thread to Dr. Blutziegel. Blutziegel will speak in green. Dr. Blutziegel has a low tolerance for inane patient questions.

11. In game, you can't kill/convert/etc. Dr. Blutziegel, so don't waste a night action on it.

12. Breaking a rule or directive will, at least, get you a smack on the head from Dr. B (aka, a penalty vote). At worst, it will involve you being booted from the game.

13. About meta-gaming. As a serial meta-gamer (despite thinking it poor game play), I've designed this game to be anti-meta. Using the number picker at random.org, avatars were assigned rooms, then players were (for the most part) randomly assigned avatars, and after those were settled, roles and powers were randomly assigned. There is no connection between hospital roles and game roles. So have fun in the game, but don't think nurses are being led by the doctors, or there is any meaning between room groupings. If you do, you will shoot yourself in the foot and hurt your team.

drb.jpg

Staff, patients, as you may know, one of our patients was, um, how shall I put this... made indisposed last night, and shall not be returning. Havel Pavlov will be joining our ward as the new fifth resident of Spider room. Please make him feel welcome and safe.

But, as is my policy, I will not be involving the authorities in this matter. I prefer to resolve things in house. Or, I should say, I prefer you to resolve things in house. I expect you to clean up this matter, so we can continue with your treatment, your basket weaving, and your tile scrubbing.

Until this business is cleared up, staff, you will not be permitted to leave the premises. We have set up some old mattresses for you to sleep on. Thank you for understanding the seriousness of the matter, and the need for your cooperation

The Players

*A major reminder to all players: All bios were written and chosen before game roles were selected, and have zero relationship to anybody's actual game roles.*

staff.jpg

drb.jpg

Dr Blutziegel (def, NPC) - Excerpt from a July, 1958 edition of the Connecticut Chronicle: "The son of the renowned mental health doctor Wilheim Blutziegel. His father founded the Blutziegel Institute in 1918, and specialized in treating shell shock victims. After that profitable founding allowed the hospital to expand and prosper, the elder Blutziegel pressured his son into following in his footsteps. The young Dr. Blutziegel took over his father's hospital when his father was found dead of an apparently self-inflicted gun wound in 1952. The hospital has been running profitably in the intervening years."

st-dr1.jpg

Dr Ballbricker (Ricecracker) - A passionate doctor. Dr.Ballbricker is dedicated to helping patients, but is unfortunately hindered by her poor bedside manner. But, in an emergency situation, no other doctor in this hospital has the impeccable performance level she does. She seems to have adopted the east ward as a family of her own. We are currently performing a psychiatric evaluation on her, as her extreme job involvement may be unhealthy.

st-dr2.jpg

Dr Rajim (Admiral Ron) - Dr. Rajim is here on loan through an exchange program with a national hospital in Bombay. Fortunately, he doesn't have the famous Bombay attitude that is associated with the city. A pleasant, likable fellow.

st-nur1.jpg

Nurse Pendleton (Zepher) - Nurse Pendleton is a trailblazer in the world of male nurses. He's had to suffer some ridicule, as he is not living up to the social norms of these times, but he is an impeccable caregiver, and deserves our respect.

st-nur2.jpg

Nurse Pepper (Bob the Construction Man) - Nurse Pepper is one of our newer staff members. There is a worry that she values fashion over professionalism. This is a job that requires dedication and for one to place the job above the roles that one holds in the outside world. Is nurse Pepper capable of doing this?

st-nur3.jpg

Nurse Penny (Yumiyoshi) - Nurse Penny was a medic on the front lines in Seoul during the Korean War, she insisted on being in the danger zones, and repeatedly disobeyed direct orders to retreat. Of course, this makes her a hero, but it also is the cause of her extreme disfigurement. It is especially tragic as she had been Miss Montana in her graduating year of high school. A shrapnel bomb took away the use of her right eye, and made the amputation of her legs a necessity.

monkey.jpg

m-robot.jpg

Sparky Trucks (TinyPiesRUs) - Poor Trucks suffered a life of abuse at the hands of his father. What free time he had was spent fetishizing over lurid pulp science fiction novels. Over time, he developed a lust for mechanical objects, filling his room with machine parts, hiding them, or keeping them in his pocket to rub. Shortly before his 17th birthday, he was beaten into a coma. Upon waking two weeks later, he spoke in monotones, convinced he was a robot. He must be fed intravenously. Harmless, but delusional and suicidal.

m-munch.jpg

Perry Noid (ADHO15) - This 19 year old patient not only insisted he had every disease he read about in his mother's encyclopedias, he medically induced them if he could. He drank mercury before doctor visits, ate lead, anything to induce symptoms in himself. He desired the attention and care of medical help, and the concern of his family and friends. His psychological condition only revealed itself during a failed surgery for kidney disease that almost took his life. He has shown no improvement through treatment. Harmless, but pathological.

c-sailor.jpg

Salvatore Ricardo Samuels (Dragonator) - A degenerate drug addict, Samuels blames his situation on his time in spent in the Orient. Upon returning, he sold everything he owned in order to invest in an opium farm. That quickly collapsed due to mismanagement. A temperamental, dislikable fellow. Harmless.

m-bc.jpg

Cameron 'Big Cam' Oaktree (Big Cam) - A poor fellow born with a rare case of gigantism and unfortunately pigmented skin. A lifetime of mockery and bullying left him unable to acknowledge his condition, going so far as to not recognize himself in pictures or in the mirror. In his mind, he is normal. Harmless.

m-senor.jpg

Señor Canny Bolero (Iamded) - One of the few pathological criminals at our hospital. In high school, Bolero was self-mutilating. He would commonly cut off small strips of skin to eat. Some time after moving out on his own, he lured at least three drunken women back to his apartment, drugged them, and cut strips off of them. Though he is very lucid and rational-seeming, he must be kept away from sharp objects. Pathological.

bear.jpg

b-holden.jpg

Ryan Catchers (Rick) - Catchers is one of the more rational patients here. He checked himself in one day after quitting his job at a pillow factory. He claims his life is meaningless, and that he no longer derives pleasure from "human endeavors." Treatment is at a standstill. Harmless.

b-caveman.jpg

Ted Nathan Tompkins (Whitefang) - A genius.Thompkins was entered into an Ivy League school at age 16. Unable to socialize well with students his senior, he became withdrawn. In his second year, he was part of a psychological experiment designed to examine the effects of extreme emotional stress. Essentially, for a $25 paycheck, he was subjected to deep emotional abuse from which he didn't recover. Upon graduation, he retired to a cabin whereupon he planned out "how to dismantle society." He was reported to police by passing hikers who had stopped by to request water. He seems to respond well to treatment. Seemingly harmless at this point in time.

b-lilsanta.jpg

Sandy Craws (Sandy) - Craws seemed to have a happy life, particularly at Christmas time, when he donned his Santa suit. Unaware to those around him, he was deeply depressed, and prone to binge drinking. Last New Years, he attempted to commit suicide and was brought to our hospital. Harmless but suicidal.

b-cat.jpg

Cat Manuel (The Penguin) - A social misfit seemingly incapable of developing healthy, human relationships. Unskilled, unathletic, and generally unlikable, Manuel worked most of his life at the piers, loading and unloading merchandise. Over time, he began adopting stray cats. At the time of hospitalization, he had over 70 cats in his small apartment. He has no trust in people. Harmless.

b-king.jpg

The King of Delaware (KingoftheZempk) - A bizarre case, found wandering the street, filthy, proclaiming to be the King of Delaware, though he can't even find Delaware on a map, and seems unclear about what country he's in. While lacking the aggressive tendencies of many of our patients, "The King" has made no progress with treatment as of yet. Seemingly harmless.

rabbit.jpg

r-mrn.jpg

'Mr. Nowhere' (Scouts) - This was the name given to John Doe. Most are probably familiar with his heavily publicized case. Nothing is known about him before the night he was discovered, saving people from a deadly plane crash. Though over 50 people died in that crash, 24 passengers credited Doe with saving their lives. The news media was unsure how to handle his story; undoubtedly, he is a hero, but his bizarre, featureless albinism was, for lack of a better word, not photogenic. He seems to suffer a form of mild autism. He is cognizant and rational, but unable to perform everyday tasks, like tying his shoes. Harmless.

r-wolfboy.jpg

'Lupo' (Rufus) - We can only assume the circumstances of his birth. He shows native-level recognition of English speech, so it is assumed he was raised by human parents for at least the first six months of life. At some point, he was left in the woods and was miraculously raised by wolves. At the age of 12, he was found running naked in the woods, without any vocabulary, simply lupine howls. Though he is now a fluent English speaker, he becomes unsettled when forced to conform to societal norms, as when being made to eat with utensils. Generally harmless, though occasionally irrational.

r-chief.jpg

Chief Washing Bear (JimButcher) - Though born on a reservation, the chief was adopted as an infant to a middle-class family. He claims he was treated with kindness, but was deeply suicidal over the disparity between his native culture and his surroundings. He has attempted suicide at least twice. Harmless but suicidal.

r-jesus.jpg

Dougie "Jesus" Douglas (Hinckley) - A degenerate 'beatnik' college student. This would-be messiah seduced much of his campus, and got them hooked on mescaline and other hallucinates. In the end, it all caught up with him, and now he has deluded himself into thinking he's the messiah. He believes his free-love, drug abusing lifestyle is the answer to all the world's problems. A wretched individual. Delusional.

r-pyro.jpg

Petey Pirowski (Peanuts) - This hideously scarred man is what could be best described as a firebug. Pirowski joined the fire department to experience fire up close. But, the rate of fire incidents was not enough to satisfy his flame-lust. Within a year, he was starting fires throughout the town. Luckily, there were no fatalities. He seems harmless when kept away from fire. Pathological.

chicken.jpg

c-spacetwin.jpg

'Timtam Timmers', Spacetwin #1 (Lord Arjay) - The Timmers brothers both have developed a complex fantasy wherein they are colonizers of this world. They claim to know they are human, and understand Earth is a human planet, yet still insist they have arrived here to colonize this world. As a result, they treat humans as a hostile species, and were arrested while stealing "what is rightfully (theirs)" from a department store. Blood tests have revealed large traces of psilocybin and peyote in their blood streams. It is believed one of the brothers has schizoid tendencies, while the other suffers from a shared disorder. Manipulative and without concience. Delusional.

m-spacetwin.jpg

'Tamtam Timmers', Spacetwin #2 (Quarryman) - The Timmers brothers both have developed a complex fantasy wherein they are colonizers of this world. Delusional.

c-prof.jpg

Professor Diem (Walter Kovacs) - Quite literally a mad professor. In my opinion, the type of quackery practiced by this fractured physician smears the whole medical profession with its black brush. While teaching at the local medical college, he performed numerous experiments without any medical purpose or sane hypothesis, which left dozens of scarred subjects; giving people blood transfusions from pigs, skin grafts of horses manes onto bald people, transplanting monkey muscle tissue to invalids. Demented and unrepentant, he should never be free. Pathological.

c-shadows.jpg

Kevin 'Shadows' Mitchell (Shadows) - A particularly tragic case. This delusional individual created his "Shadows" persona after a series of personal misfortunes. Having lost his job, home, and savings due to his gambling and drinking disorders, his wife further demoralized him by leaving him for his best friend. Left with nothing, he became "Shadows," a self-professed 'champion' in all walks of life. Harmless but pathological.

c-mrs.jpg

Misty 'Mrs' Monroe (badboytje88) - An unfortunate gentleman who claims that from an early age, he knew he was a woman. Obviously never able to marry, he lived with his widowed mother. One day, when she walked in on him while cross-dressing, she promptly sent him to our facilities. Harmless.

spider.jpg

s-martian.jpg

Martin Century (Stash2Sixx) - Century was born with the skin mutation as can be seen in his photo. While bright, from an early age, he was convinced he was not human, despite all testing showing evidence otherwise. Upon his father's death, he refused a large inheritance, stating, "(His) father still lives in Alpha Centauri." Harmless but delusional.

s-spaceman.jpg

Stanley Spussemmin (Cornelius Murdock) - Spussemmin was born with a rare condition known as elongatus, wherein the spine contains a number of extra vertebras. His parents sold him to a circus sideshow at an early age, where he was kept in isolation, except at show time, as "the world's longest man." He developed a passion for astronomy, and suffers from the delusion that he's been to the moon. Harmless but delusional.

s-gi.jpg

Dudley Eisenhower (MrLegoNinja) - One of our longest hospitalized patients, Eisenhower seems a hopeless case. "Exhausted" during his time fighting in the Pacific during the war, he was never able to settle back into daily life, and was institutionalized after several violent outbursts in public places left scores of people injured. Has become docile thanks to shock therapy. Seemingly harmless.

s-chef.jpg

Cookie Custer (Roncanator) - At one time, Custer was one of the top chefs in the world, but his exacting skill was apparently a symptom of a deep obsessive compulsive disorder. At the time of being institutionalized, he hadn't left his house in two months, and had lost roughly 20% of his body weight due to lack of nutrition. Harmless but compulsive.

s-pkd.jpg

Havel Pavlov (Sok117) - A comic book writer who suffered from an extended schizophrenic episode. Pavlov believes that he is sharing consciousness with a past life, and would, from time to time, fully believe he was living in "Roman times." He states that one day, while driving, he "lost understanding of how cars work," causing a collision that, while there were no fatalities, left Pavlov hobbled. Harmless but delusional.

I'm actually glad I got on the reserves here; there are new rules, and I learn better from watching, rather than from doing. And I'm right after first in the reserves, so just incase I understand the rules early, I have a chance at getting in if someone quites (though, you'd have to be mad to! ).

This is going to throw some people off. If anyone has questions about them, please ask. I would like everyone to be clear on the main differences.

Hello everyone. I'm Jesus. You all know me. But can you ever really know me until you've asked me into your heart? And I say unto you it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than it is to get some good grub in this asylum. Bring me a stone and I shall make you some good bread. :sweet:

Just to remind folks, all of you are Insane. There's good Insane, and Sinister Insane. For the sake of short hand, you can just call the baddies the Sinisters.

Everyone's Insane? you gasp, even the staff? Yes. This is a bad hospital. Though, arguably, there is no clear definition of sanity.

I am not insane. I am feared and misunderstood. Those who fear me, the Son of God, have declared me insane because they don't have the capacity to understand my mission on Earth. Forgive them Father, for they know not what they do.

As for the proxy vote, does it give your vote to another person to use? Do they choose who they want or is it just added on their own vote?

Anyone with a proxy vote is only voting for one person.

So, for example, Player A says: Proxy: Player B, then, Player B says: Vote: Player C, Player C now has two votes against them. It'll be confusing on the first day, but it really helps town be active. You learn to trust people more, and it gives the scum more ways to mess with town. It also helps things be more fair in regards to people being in different time zones.

I am pleased to see the sunny attitude you're all managing to display despite your relatively bleak future. I just wanted to remind you all that some of you have rather long names. Feel free to let us know how you'd like us to address you. Of course, I will continue to be referred to as Dr. Blutziegel. No need make you too comfortable with me.

Also, most of you know the routine, but, once the game gets going, you'll need to be wearing your avatar either as your main avatar, or in your signature. Also, it's a pain to remember names, so please keep your character name in your signature.
