Posted Image  On YouTube, bazmarc has posted some details about his Work In Progress (WIP) -- a big Lego NXT Wall-E being built for LegoWorld 2010 in Zwolle, The Netherlands (October 22-27, 2010).  If you attend, look for it!  :classic:  The Disney-Pixar animated movie "Wall-E"  .  Bazmarc wrote,

"For this occasion i have rebuilt my Wall-E3 and decided as a challenge to use only Mindstorms components... This resulted in a wonderful robot containing 3 NXT, 8 NXT servo motors, and a selection of sensors.  Zwall-E4 is born!

"my Picasaweb album of the Work In Progress http://picasaweb.goo...ti/ZwallE4uWIP# .
my Wall-E NXTfied blog: http://bazmarc.blogspot.com/ .

"I started building him (it) on Sept 3rd... 7 days later I'm pretty satisfied with the result ... now comes the hard part... program a decent NXT-G using 3 NXT via Bluetooth..."

A real work of art.

I would make the NXT at least spit out the nosies Wall-E does if possible

That will be a hit at the LEGO show

If it can close its head, move it, etc it would be a great bonus

Finally if it can interact with something, maybe that small figurine, like in the movie where it plays with the grasshopper - that would be amazing

Thanks,
Noam

Bazmarc has finished his NXT "zWall-E4" robot, and it is FANTASTIC!         The YouTube video shows its impressive capabilities.

Bazmarc wrote, "A special LEGO WORLD Zwolle Edition Wall*E, the famous Hollywood robot from Disney/Pixar movie of the same name. This is my 4th generation. So i called it zWall-E4. It only has Mindstorms components (i.e. NO POWER FUNCTIONS and NO 3rd Party devices) and all bricks talk to each other via Bluetooth. The program is written in NXT-G 2.0 and has been designed to allow zWall-E4 to remain on a table top and do it's show all day, which may explain the restraint movements seen in this video.
*
Technical Specification:
3 NXT brick
8 NXT motor
2 Color sensors
4 Touch sensors
1 Ultrasonic sensor
*
In essence, we could say, the inner workings of this Wall-E are100% LEGO MINDSTORMS.
*
Come see zWall-E4 and his creator (me) from October 22 to 27 at LEGO WORLD 2010 in Zwolle, NL
*
My Picasaweb album of the Work In Progress
http://picasaweb.goo...ti/ZwallE4uWIP#
*
I started building him (it) on Sept 3rd... 7 days later I'm pretty satisfied with the result but it took nearly 20 day on/off doing mods and to figure out how to program NXT-G using 3 NXT's via Bluetooth.

I wish it did a real Wall-e sound and had an Eva companion

It would make my son shine.

According to Bazmarc's Facebook page, Wall-E is finished and was displayed at this week's ToyCon in Montreal, Canada.  There is a nice article about this multi-year, multi-builder project on the official Lego Mindstorms website.  Posted Image

I have probably seen all of the Lego Wall-e's you can find on the net and this is easily one of the best. Great work, I love Wall-e, especially ones built with Lego.

Thumbs up Posted Image

Great picture i had not seen that one yet!

Yes WALL-E5 has been followed by a film crew... Me and 3 other QUELUG member will be featured in an upcoming documentary (for french Canadian TV) called "Une brique Ă  la fois" expected to air on Canal D in spring 2012 !!!

Also note he has his own Facebook page: LEGO Mindstorms Project Wall-E5 on Facebook https://www.facebook...k.com/FOWM5  go LIKE it, that would be really cool :)

Hey thanks for all the great comments guys...

FYI, I'm currently re-working him, added some sensor to make it more kid-teractive... so i'm head over heals programming WALL-E5.1

New video to be expected by December
!!!!

waaaaaaaaleeeeeeeeeeee ;)

On his Facebook page, bazmarc (Marc-AndrĂ© Bazergui) has been tweaking Wall-E5's design and is nearing completion.  Here are the two most-recent YouTube videos of the adorable robot!

"Track Module -- Connect Transform Play & LED test, Lift and charge for the night -- Track module for WALL-E5.1 (in realtime)":

"Video showing details of the RC display/features and an accelerated demo view of the transform/play of wall-e 5.1" -- "all NXT-G programs avail upon request":

On his Facebook page, bazmarc posted a link to a reproduction Wall-E4 done by ramacc0 -- "Imitation is the greatest form of flattery."  :classic:     On this YouTube video , "jWall-E" is   "A LEGO Edition of Wall*E, the famous Hollywood robot from Disney/Pixar movie of the same name. It was based on zWall-E4 by Bazmarc. It only has Mindstorms components (i.e. NO POWER FUNCTIONS and NO 3rd Party devices) and all bricks talk to each other via Bluetooth. The program is written in NXC and is remote controllable by a 4th NXT Brick. jWall-E also has a demo mode so it can remain on a table top and do it's show all day without moving around. Of course, the real fun is when the audience can drive jWall-E arround themselves.
*
Technical Specification:
3 NXT brick (+ 1 for the remote control)
8 NXT motors (+ 2 for the handles of the remote control)
2 Color sensors
4 Touch sensors (on the remote control to switch function)
1 Ultrasonic sensor
*
In essence, this version of Wall-E is 100% LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT."

Thanks Dluders for sharing this!

I was asked to give a demo at FLL Belgium and I needed something 'spectacular' to show and animate the children/parents. I met Marc-André Bazergui (Bazmarc) and his zWall-e4 at LegoWorld Zwolle 2010 for the first time (after 2 years of skype'ing). There he gave me the challenge to improve his zWall-E4. One year later I accepted this challenge and this is the result.

The children were very enthusiast about it. Too bad my Wall-e fell of the table last night. So I need to rebuild him before Saturday. Maybe I will make a movie while rebuilding him, if you want me to.

Some sort of time-lapse/super sped up rebuilding video would be awesome!
