Theed Ambush Rescue

Recommended Posts

Security battle droids lead Queen Amidala's retinue from the Palace towards a concentration camp going through the plaza and along the side streets of Theed.

Unbeknownst to the security battle droids, the Jedi have observed them escorting Queen Amidala and her retinue from the Palace to a detention camp. They follow along one balcony level, seeing the droids march with shadows to the lines of the street tiles to set up an ambush.

Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan and Jar-Jar sneak across on a walkway above the plaza and jump from a balcony to begin an attack to rescue the Queen. The security battle droids are cut down instantly by the Jedi and the Queen's retinue are rescued.

Commentary:

One large 48x48 gray baseplate was used as base footprint. There's one stud overhang on the balcony and roof of the building on the right because I wanted to maintain the symmetry of the building. Three weeks to build as it was simultaneously built with the other two entries. As with the other two entries, I've kept the design and build true to the scenes, no gimmicks necessary.

Here are reference pics for the Queens' retinue, Jedi and the ambush that I found for this scene.

Like the Small and Medium entry, this is also the final version. Comments and suggestions are welcomed but I won't be making anymore changes as I've got to get back to a previous MOC stopped due to these entries for the contest.

Enjoy viewing more pics here, here and here or by clicking on any pic above before posting your comments. I'd also appreciate if you mention what details you liked about it or not.

Nice. I see two errors:

1: The handmaidens are in brown, not red

2: Where's Jar Jar?

Other than that I love it- another demonstration of how good your MOCs are.

Jar Jar is hanging on that vine upside down.

That's it. Contest is over for the large scale category. Seriously this entry should win.

Among your three entries, this is the one I like the most. The architecture is absolutely stunning, the minifigs are great, and the presentation is simply fantastic.

Congratulations AC! pirate_thumbup.gif

I see an error in your error. Jar jar is standing next to the Jedi on the bridge, since his bighead is the same color as the wall he doesn't jump out at you.

when it comes to ACPin's MOC's you owe it to yourself to look stir for a while and view all pictures his work is stunning.

But you should try, everybody else does.

Be careful what you say as the contest is just heating up!

All three entries remain true to the scenes, no gimmicks necessary to portray them.

Another amazing entry! Looks like you have a pretty solid chance of sweeping the contest!

Are you kidding me? Good luck to you as well.

Now there's the voice of reason. :classic:

Amazing job on the palace, and a very clever way to make Amadala. Excelent job!

Simple details can sometimes have a bigger impact and most won't notice that except you did.

Amazing work as usual ACPing.

There's a method to my madness and you'll see it all someday.

Wow amazing! I have to say I haven't been paying as much attention to the wonderful entries as I should but this one really stood out to me. It wasn't the scale of it but the attention to detail which made this one a winner in my eyes. For example I love the way you used the droid arms as arches above the windows. The usage of this part is also an excellant example. Even a little thing like that adds so much more to your MOC. Also of note are the parts you use just above the previous point. Though I can't figure out what you used on that bit. So yeah a great entry ACPin and no faults at all from me. Good Luck!

Wow, ACPin.

I must ask, How do you do it? You definately have a way with Lego. All of your MOC's (especially your recent ones)are so sleek. Everything is so perfect right down to the last detail! The use of tiles definately makes it great, but none the less, you have a way with lego which just has such a 'cool' factor that I can't get my head around. All the best with the compitition your entry is fantastic. I love the working of the archeticture, It's awe-worthy.

I doubt I'll be entering a Large entry, as there are a heap of incredible ones already, and I'm trying to focus on my Medium entry. Best of luck!

Thanks as for most little details are often overlooked and I appreciate the fact that you were able to focus on those. Btw the other piece you mentioned is also a hinge which is at the end of a 1x2 plate. There are also better pics of the separate buildings in the first link if you haven't seen them yet.

Practice, practice, practice! It also pays to study the available reference material for the scene intended to be built. Then there's always an inherent atmosphere to every scene that the overall work must be able to convey, in this case Theed for me evokes classic elegance. Never be satisfied with the initial build as I always go back and rebuild as necessary any detail that may have been overlooked at first. Good luck to you as well.
