[KEY TOPIC] Official LEGO Sets made in LDD

Are you sure about some of the Light Bluish Grey parts because the instructions found on Brickset show the differences in Grey colors.

Here are the instructions I went from. Instructions

Well, bluish and non-bluish grey colors almost never coexist in sets (there might be some cases where they do, but only in 2003 or 2004, the time the transition from one sort of grey to the other took place). Looking at the instructions, it's clear where the problem is: the color you interpreted as 27 Dark Grey is actually supposed to be 26 Black. Yet another reason instructions can be deceiving: colors may not look as they should, especially in scans. This is one reason I always recommend having the Bricklink inventory for a set open while you're building it (even though in this case, that was not an option since the set has not yet been inventoried). Bricklink can be wrong sometimes (especially with pearl/metallic colors), but the reference catalog is put together by people who have at least seen the parts themselves in real life. So it's a lot more trustworthy in a lot of ways than an image of the set or a digital copy of the instructions.

Just discovered LDD and this forum. Had a huge box of Lego I'd bought for my son, no plans. I've slowly been finding out what sets are in there. This is one: 1906 Majisto's Tower.

Image.

I appreciate any feedback. I roughly fabricated the roof (6121 - unavailable) and spiral staircase(2046 - unavailable)just to fill it in. However, i need the small wagon wheels (2470) and the ones I used are too big to fit. Little things, too like I can't get the map in his hand or the jewels in the box. Also, how can I get Majisto's beard AND cape on at the same time?

I can't seem to attach my LXF

Cheers

Getting Majisto's beard and cape on at the same time is actually possible, but kind of difficult. Essentially, what you have to do is to attach the head to the body first, then attach the beard. Select the beard and hat (and possibly hat, if you've added that) and remove them from the body. Add the cape to the body, and then select the beard, head, and hat once again and drag them all back onto the neck.

The reason this works is that LDD has two default positions for the minifig head: one flat against the "shoulders" of the torso piece, one a little bit higher. The latter only works if the minifigure torso is already wearing a neck accessory.

Since Majisto's beard fits around the "neck ridge" of a minifigure head rather than under it, it doesn't need a "gap" between the head and shoulders. By attaching the head first (flat against the shoulders) and then the beard, the beard fits snugly around the head. Then, when you remove the head and beard, add a cape, and try adding back the head and beard, the head will default to the higher (above the shoulders) position, and the beard will move with it.

It should be noted that LDD doesn't recognize the beard as being connected in this case, because it only recognizes connections between neck accessories and the torso rather than neck accessories and the head. This trick also only works with neck accessories that fit around the "neck ridge" of the minifigure head-- it doesn't work, for instance, to attach a suit of armor and a cloth cape to a minifigure at the same time (this can be done, but it's an even more complicated process).

Neck accessory behaviors on LDD are often very awkward, and I hope they'll be improved in future LDD updates-- as it is currently, some neck accessories (such as the Agents/Power Miners body armor) are thicker than the gap between the head and torso at the neck accessory default position, so the "neck ridge" and neck accessory actually occupy the same space (a big no-no).

Hi there

Welcome to the forum.

Regarding uploading LXF-files, the easiest is to start a Brickshelf account, because unlike other image hosting sites, BrickShelf allows you to upload LXF-files as well as images.

LFX-file

They're called LXF files, not LFX files.

You should also report the above set as a duplicate build.

Good work Captain.

Perhaps it's time to try something bigger

Have a look at the index and see if there is any set that hasn't been done yet.

Couple miscellaneous errors, though in general you did a rather good job!

  • All Pearl Dark Grey parts should be 316 Titanium Metallic rather than 148 Metallic Dark Grey. 148 was replaced with Titanium Metallic starting in summer 2010, and so most summer 2010 and all 2011 sets will use this for any sort of "dark silver" color.
  • The Lion Knight's armor is on backwards.
  • Silver Metallic is the correct color for most of the silver parts. Not sure about all of them-- if you have the set in real life, you can confirm whether any of them are "lacquered" rather than pearl. Lacquered silver parts should probably 298 Cool Silver Drum Lacquered (The Agents silver--I'm fairly certain it's still current, though I'm not positive). To get Cool Silver Drum Lacquered, download a file that contains it (my complete color chart should work, although I can't link to that and I'll explain why in a moment). Bricklink can be unreliable with metallic colors, which is why I can't just say use X color for all the Pearl Light Gray, X color for all the Flat Silver, and X color for all the Metallic Silver.

That's all I could find. Now something that's been bothering me: lately, when I open any topic in this subforum, there are no background graphics, no tables, and in fact a very primitive interface. I checked at the bottom, and no matter which "skin" I try to switch to, it always opens as IP.Board Lo-Fi, which is very obnoxious. Is anyone else having this problem?

@chiklets

Very good work, perhaps the roof should be a little more... slender!

About your post, you should read the thread's rules in the first page of this topic. :classic:

Particularly, the image is too big and should be resized (512x512 pixel is the maximum size allowed).

@Captain Becker

Same issue: the images for all last three sets are irregular.

I know these aren't supposed to be out yet, but I took the liberty of making this Pirates of the Caribbean set. I am not including the LXF, (beacause it's way too hard, and I had minor hand surgery today and i'm typing / buliding with one hand plus one finger.) So here it is, the Fountain of Youth!

Sorry, but this topic is not the place for these kind of models. Firstly, you can only put models here that have been released (i.e. that you can use an official building instruction to re-create). Secondly, you need to provide the LXF.

@ADHO15 Is that an official variation for the 7931 T-6 Jedi Shuttle? I can't see it in the instructions at lego.com and I wasn't aware TLG provided alternate builds for the Star Wars sets.

It is. The instructions were posted in the Star Wars 2011 topic and they look as official as those for The Burrow's alternate build.

Ah, it's a Lego Club thing. I thought it probably was official coming from you, but couldn't place where it'd have come from. Cheers.

4560/4561 - Railway Express

4560 / 4561 Train Set: Work in Progress! (I did not see it in the main thread index / thread search).

4561-Railway-Express.png

The set is effectively complete (I did not spot anything missing), although I have had to use substitute parts:

  • The platform ramp is made from custom bricks, plates and tiles
  • The roof of the truck is replaced with modern equivalent
  • The ramps inside the 'car' wagons are replaced with modern equivalent
  • The metalic chrome silver modifed tiles with slots is not the correct colour

LXF File: 4560 is identical to 4561

As always the sub models are individually grouped. Or you can download each of the sub models seperately.

Edit: Updated the list, models, and pictures.

Edit-2: Updated the colours as per the request

EDIT-3: Updated to LDD 4

  • LXF File:
4560 is identical to 4561Passenger Wagon
Auto/Car Wagon
Cab / Locomotive
Cars
Containers
Fuel Containers
Platform area
Truck

I did not see 7938 Passenger Train... so here it is.

Models updated to LDD 4.2.5 by Sjuip, MANY THANKS!. Therefore post is split in two.

Submodels

Errors

  • Different decoration on minifig torso for chef (airline vice trains)
  • 9V motor instead of RC motor with Technic Wheels
  • Custom Build Battery Box instead of 87513/87515 (Front/Rear Car) - Arches 6182 in Substructure won't fit in right position - known bug

===============================

7938-PassengerTrain.png

LXF File

Known errors

  • The front and rear windscreens do not sit flush with the bricks - boundary error
  • Custom battery box has been used
  • Custom white front modified plates (for the nose cone) have been used.
  • No mini-figs yet... too tired tonight.

As always the submodels also exist as LXF files for those who are interested

In the train forum I will post a couple of pictures of custom MOC's I did for this; a 1st class wagon and a restaurant car.

Edit

Corrected slight colour issues in the original LXF files.

Nothing like a good cockpit slamming to get the window to shut better. Still not ideal...

Edit-3: LDD Version 4 models; included minifigs and train tracks. Fixed a few components.

Known errors

[*]The front and rear windscreens do not sit flush with the bricks - boundary error

Can you try to close the windscreens a couple of more times. I sometimes find that hinged bricks will close shut if you close them more "gently".
