I've never made anything quite like that before, but I really felt like paying some kind of tribute to the victims of yesterday's Polish plane crash in Smolensk, Russia. 96 people were killed, including the president of Poland, his wife, and lots of government officials and members of the parliament, as well as the president of the Polish National Bank, president of the Polish Olympic Committee and many others.

Real people were killed in that crash and it's a memorial of sorts dedicated to them.

Nice little MOC.

Yes the news is very sad, I've been watching it on TV since it happened.

Quite a sad day for all Polish people around the world.

It is indeed very sad news. It's very schocking to realise Poland's top has been erased in one fatal accident.

Nice work on the MOC, the flames look good and the black flag is a nice touch. What parts are those white pieces that form the column?

I feel so bad for your country, it must be hard when a bunch of your leaders are killed.
Nice tribute.

It was the first story in the news here in Greece.

My deepest condolences to all the Polish people. :sadnew:

Very nice tribute.

I don't think he was a very good president, but it's still a terrible thing that happened.

Indeed, the crash is most horrendous for Poland. Sadly, for any other country such a loss at the very highest echelons of such a great number of officials has never occurred, so to empathise with your loss at this time is very hard.

Turning to the Lego aspect, the white pillars are found in these sets, a search on Peeron revealed.

Wow. I heard of this on the news. I'm sorry   May God watch over and comfort the family of the president, all others who died in the crash, and all of the people of Poland.

Holey Moley. I didnt hear about this.

Isn't that a bit of strange to put every important official of a country into one plane?  :sceptic:
I understand it was for an important anniversary, but leaving extremely important people on a 20-year-old airplane with known problems?

It's extremely sad and devastating on Poland. I am sorry.

I'm very sorry to hear about what happened. Please accept my condolences.

That is a very nice MOC, Dreamweb. How did you attach the white wheel to the black base?

Very nice MOC - simple but sweet - a beautiful thing it is for what is the latest tragedy for your country 'Dreamweb' after years of having to have flight for freedom behind the iron curtain and what happened in WWII - enough said there.
My condolences to your country at this time of your people's sadness after such a tragedy.
Keep on bricking ! :sadnew:

To be honest - I'm not a fan of politicians in general. Whichever president or minister it is. When it's time for voting here in Poland, I usually vote for the ones I dislike the least...
Having said that, I still think it's a big loss for the country to lose so many officials during one accident. And, regardless of their functions, they were people with families. I have a friend who is a police officer and his friend died in that crash - he was an officer of BOR, which translates into Government Protection Bureau. Also, another friend of mine, a former soldier, has once met the chief of National Security Bureau who also died there. Not to mention my yet another friend who works in the Parliament as a public relations specialist of sorts, I haven't spoken to him since the crash but I'm pretty sure he knew quite a few of them personally.
So these were not some anonymous people that died in there...

So sad....

It's crazy how someone so important could disappear in a flash. Just goes to show how important it is to value every minute of life. :sadnew:

Oh snap, I'm getting profound again!

Actually the base is dark bley.

With this (in dark bley):

inserted into the centre of the wheel, stud end down. The stud is inserted into the central hole of this (in white):

and the other side of the central hole is attached to a standard 1x2 jumper plate (in dark bley).

Have you heard about the new footage? Videos of Russian Soldiers or outlines of armed soldiers shooting on the crash site. Strange...

I've heard various rumours, this happens everytime an accident similar to this occurs. However none of these seem credible enough right now. In such situations people always tend to make up theories, however strange. I remember a theory saying UFO was involved in September 11 attacks, so you get my point.

I think it'll take much more time and research before we know exactly what happened during the Polish air force crash, if ever, but I REALLY don't think it was a deliberate attack, or that anyone was running around shooting the survivours...

In my opinion, If it is real, It was probably staged by a "Neo-Soviet" group who wanted to "re-enact" Katyn or something. Which is horrible...

But the Plane was over 20 years old so It would most likely have been a mechanical failure, however airport control no faults with the planes engines.
