I found this forum a few days ago and I came across the pirate section
I've seen some of the huge collections of minifigures and I'm wondering how you buy them in bulk. Can you order minifigs such as imperial guardsmen straight from lego or are you stuck buying them one at a time for 3.50 from the lego website.

You can get minifigs from bricklink, but that can be very expensive to build your armies, especially if you're planning huge ones. Ebay or similar auction sites are probably your best bet to get large quantities of minifigs fairly easily and fast, +if you're patient, it can be cheap as well.

If you are soley interested in minifigs without the sets, I'd check ebay, and bricklink. $3.50 isn't that bad for a single fig.
