Went over to Utah this weekend and found myself in Promontory, where they were reenacting the completion of the Transcontinental RR. Got some nice pictures of the trains that I thought you trainheads might enjoy:

Thanks for sharing Steve.  I really love these classic western trains.  The colors are so vivid and the detailing ornamental.  These locomotives look like the engines (SavaTheAggie) creates in Lego.  Great history here.

Yes Sava makes a great interpretation of this train. I will definitely give it a try one day. Thanks for the pictures!

Well, with that Toy Story train, we finally can have something like that in Lego form!  And by the way, it's Promontory Summit, not Point!

Jayo: do you realize this topic is almost a year old?  When you resurrect these old topics, I wouldn't expect much of a response after this long.
