Is Boba Fett / Slave ship worth the hype?

Recommended Posts

I'm 33 now. Since I was a kid, Boba Fett has been spoken of with deep reverence, and by all means, he's a cool character, but I wonder if it's over the top.

I've been buying a lot of SW Lego on Yahoo Auction (the Japanese equivalent of eBay) and whenever the Slave turns up, in a new box it usually starts around 15,000 yen, maybe $170 U.S. Considering I got a B-wing last month for half that price, the Slave price is a joke. But, I have this feeling over my head of this thing I really wanted as a kid, and now have the money to put out for it. However, I can see myself buying it, putting it together, looking at it and being disappointed, since it's more expensive than this year's Republic Gunship.

Does anyone share these feelings about the Slave ship, either the Empire or Clones version?

I have also thought Boba Fett was a great character. George Lucas has even said that he now wishes he would have done more with him as a character. As far as LEGO goes I can say that I have owned both the original Slave I and the newer Slave I (but not he Jango Fett version. The newer one is an amazing set and looks fantastic. In fact, after my house flooded about two year back it was my only Star Wars set that survived being packed up and moved to my parents house. It is now back with me. I think, personally, that it was one of the greatest Star Wars sets that has ever been designed.

I don't think it is worth $170 USD, but I like it a lot. You might check BrickLink.com. They usually have pretty good prices and have most every LEGO set. I'm sure there are other members of this forum that can give you more info and hints of where to shop.

Well, I own the Boba Fett´s Slave Is but I don´t own the Jango one. I can tell you that the 2006 version is by far the best of the three and that it is not dissapointing, in fact, this is one of my favorite sets and is one of the best sets released so far by the TLC. The color is perfect and the minifigs too. If you want one of them I think you wouldn´t be dissapoited by it but the $170 price is surely high :sadnew: .

First, I would try bricklink.com instead of auction sites.

The AOTC Slave 1 is okay, but the shape is off, and the construction is not very stable.

The more recent version of the ESB Slave I has a far superior design and construction, and it comes with IG=88, Dengar, and a Bespin officer. So, I would definitely go with that one.

Bricklink.com is much better. There are no bids, you just buy at a set price, it's a lot lot cheaper. Trust me. Plus, 170 is truly a practical joke. The Slave I was so common, it's more worth $60!

I'll have to look there again. Truth is, Lego in Japan is around, but not like in the Western world, so you have to pay for it. Bricklink has few Japanese dealers. But, with the yen rising, maybe I can find a deal.

Glad to hear some people have a good vibe with the ship.

Personally if you can I prefer the Jango Fett version. However mine never survived my travels and I have lost many of the pieces :cry_sad: .

I just did a search on BrickLink and I found that the ESB version from 2006 (Set #6209) starting at $45 (could be incomplete). If you are genuinely interested in it you can find a dealer that ships worldwide and it would far cheaper than an auction site.

You're talking about the old Slave 1, right?

I'd say 170$ is WAY too much, since the set isn't even all that great compared to the new one (which is a lot cheaper too!). Which i happen to own, its one of the best SW sets ever made in my opinion.

As last, I'd strongly recommend to NEVER EVER buy Jango's Slave 1, sure the silver boba hemlet is awesome, but the set just wouldn't keep together (a friend of mine owned it) every time you even looked at it, something fell of...

I spotted the Slave 1 at my Toysrus before Thanksgiving, but the box had some serious wear on it like it had been a return or something so I didn't get it. :sceptic:

I love 6209, I bought it a yearago off US eBay and paid $60 US and got it maile to Australia. All up about $110 Aus.

I have a review here that may convince you to pick it up.

Its still one of only 2 sets I haven't broken up, I just love it.

I suggest finding someone on US ebay who can ship it to you, or Bricklink.

Nope, that is the newer ESB Slave 1, though currently none are up for bid.

I set an account at bricklink, and am looking into shipping. Currently, 100 yen is about $1.10 U.S., so it might be worth it.

Take a look at the Japanese Lego auctions. Some of the prices are outrageous, though not so many people are buying. Average price is 20 cents a piece. Less than that is a deal.

I'd love either slave ship. I like the Jango color scheme. We'll see what happens.

Boba Fett is really rare. I have 3 Boba Fett minifigs and one magnet. I have the new Slave 1 that I am currently restoring and the original Slave 1. I also have Jango Fett's Slave 1. But, I think Jango's Slave 1 is worth more than Boba's Slave 1.

As a follow up, well, I bought them both  I found a used Jango Fett ship for a decent price, though Jango's face paint ain't quite as good as I'd like. The ship is decent, but as suspected, upon building, I wasn't as blown away as I was looking at it on the internet.

The other, 6209, I found for a reasonable price on Bricklink, with shipping, still 65% of the price of the market price in Japan... It's sellers market here I guess. That should arrive by the end of this week, and reading the reviews here and on the index, I expect a little more satisfaction. It's new, and getting a mini-figure as geeky as Dengar is making me excited. Finger's crossed. :pir-laugh:

:pirate::pirate::pirate: I also have the same problem, I want to buy back the 7153 jango slave or the 6209

However, I love the design of the 6209 ship, but for minifigs, I like 7153 jango fett minifig,

buying a single jango minifig is too expensive,

so I dont know whether I should go for 6209 or 7153

I put my 6209 Slave 1 together this week, and well love it. The Jango ship was decent, especially for an '02 set (anything before 2005 has been a disappointment for me).

The 6209 set was solid, well designed, lots of little details, and a lot of nostalgia. It cost me about $110 with shipping, and totally reasonable, since 2006 is now 3 years away. No regrets here  .

Glad to hear you scored the 6209 Slave 1. IMO, it's the best of the three LEGO releases of the ship. The Jango version is a nice set with some nice colors and features, but the model is indeed a bit fragile. TLG used everything that was done well with Jango's and upgraded the model to make it sturdier. I've never really been a big fan of the Slave 1, but I loved putting Boba's newly redesigned ride together...just a great build.
