Cowboy Wisdom

Recommended Posts

I stumbled upon these great Cowboy quotes on the web recently and wanted to share them with the EB community. What I like about most about them is the simplicity of the wisdom.

I esp like #10, my personal favorite, as one who generally has to p!$$ on the fence. Enjoy!

  1. Never slap a man who's chewing tobacco.
  2. Always drink upstream from the herd.
  3. There's two theories to arguing with a woman. Neither one works.
  4. Never miss a good chance to shut up.
  5. We can't all be heroes because someone has to sit on the curb and clap as they go by.
  6. Never kick a cow chip on a hot day.
  7. If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.
  8. I never expected to see the day when girls would get sunburned in the places they now do.
  9. The best way out of a difficulty is through it.
  10. There are three kinds of men: The ones that learn by reading. The few who learn by observation. The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence.
  11. What the country needs is dirtier fingernails and cleaner minds.
  12. Diplomacy is the art of saying "Nice doggie" until you can find a rock.
  13. An onion can make people cry but there's never been a vegetable that can make people laugh.
  14. If you're riding' ahead of the herd, take a look back every now and then to make sure it's still there.
  15. Lettin' the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier'n puttin' it back.
  16. Don't squat with your spurs on.
  17. If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging.
  18. It don't take a genius to spot a goat in a flock of sheep.
  19. Never ask a barber if you need a haircut.
  20. Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance.
  21. You live in hell? HA! I ride him everyday.
  22. Grass is for bulls, what do you ride?
  23. "A gun is a tool, Marion, no better or no worse than any other tool, an axe, a shovel or anything. A gun is as good or as bad as the man using it. Remember that." -- Shane
  24. Talk slowly, think quickly.
  25. Sometimes you get and sometimes you get got.
  26. Never approach a bull from the front, a horse from the rear, or a fool from any direction.

Very nice... I guess especially no. 4´s a pretty wise one... I only have one at my mind,

and that one´s perhaps not even in the same league... anyways:

We always had Packards, until the war, when they stopped making them; then we had a Cadillac.

June Carter Cash

I like simple truths...
