[Lord King of Everything]

Somewhere in the 17th century AD there lived a man. This man was not just a man, this man was Kahuka and he was the King of Ookabooka Peek. This day should have been like any other day. The Floating Cadaver containing captain Bob and his crew, would come to hide away their treasures in the caves of the Ookabooka Peek after pillaging a village. King Kahuka had a special arrangement with captain Bob. King Kahuka, or Kinky Hooker as captain Bob and his crew called him, would keep the treasure safe in return for something King Kahuka was very fond of. Captain Bob would sacrifice fresh human meat to the Ookabooka bigmouthed pet god. He especially enjoys the chewy taste of the red-coated shako-wearing soldiers.
This normal day however turned into something which resembled something closer to an abnormal day. The soldiers did not wear red coats, they wore blue! These soldiers were not like the calm cowardly sheep that normally got pushed of the plank and dropped like squirming worms in the jaws of the Big Mouth. These blue coats managed to escape their destiny… partly…. Some of them escaped from their prisons, killed some of Bobs crew and tried to climb overboard…..

That's looking like a great entry Lord King of Everything!
It took me a long while to get the sails right for my first ship as well, mainly getting the length and width right.

What I ended up doing was printing out some of the sails in the index here (I think they were from the BSB), and trimming it down to the right size. The I took that template and cut it out on cloth and then punched holes in the corners so it would stay on the mast.

Unfortunately I'm not an expert on where sails should go, that's probably a job for one of the CP staff, as most of them know their way around pirate ships!

Looks like a good entry so far, King of Every thing. I really like how you've made the skeleton, it looks fantastic. I would perhaps, use more detailed sails, though. I'll look forward to more pics!

This ship is looking really good, i can't build ships for love nor money so i can sympathise with you, the sails look good IMO and i especially love the stern (teethy! ) The only thing i want to know is how this is going to fit into the "pillage the village" theme, are you going to add a small town section and have the pirates raiding it? I think you need something like this for it to fit into the contest.

I just have one question ? will all the action be on the ship ?

The general ship design is looking very good, Lord King! I love that it has skeletal arms and a skull - that really adds to the uniqueness of your creation.

I think that the problem you are having with the sails is due to the stern – it’s way too tall, and it makes the back sail looks strange. The rear sail should probably be lower than the frontal and middle sails, so I suggest you lower the stern at least 7 bricks, if not more. That would probably improve the design immensely.

Also, can I assume that the final entry will have better pictures than this? Your current shot is way too grainy and dark, but since this is just a work in progress, I understand.

Other than those two things, you are off to a really great start!

I own the Caribbean Clipper and tried to use sails with the approximately the same size, but the ship is quite a bit larger, so it did not look right and I put an additional layer of sails on top, to make the masts a bit higher. I might try looking through that index for some triangular shaped ones.

I most certainly will! It is just easier to cut them from paper for deciding on the size.

There won't be too much action. I am going to make a long row of prisoners taken while 'pillaging' and them having to walk the plank being 'gifted' to King Kahukas sea monster. I already made the basic shape of the monster and still need to make a rock formation sticking out of some water. I don't have much blue though, so I am still in doubt whether to use regular blue or take all the darkblue panels and roofpieces from the big agent truck.
And well the ship should contain escaping prisoners who meet sharks and some prisoners who did not behave correctly and undergo some sort of 'pre' punishment. But first I want to get those sails right

I agree with you about the stern. however, you give the one option I hoped to be able to avoid Removing the top part of that mast (including that tiny sail) would lower it by 7 bricks, so maybe I'll just do that. It does make the balance between the main masts and the rear mast better looking.

For the front gap you were talking about, maybe you could make that front sail a bit larger, so as to make the gap smaller?

As for the back sail, frankly, I don't think it looks all that bad. But I definitely think that the reason it looks a bit awkward, like Grevious said, is that it's so high compared to the other sails.

I removed the topsection of the backsail and lowered it two bricks. I have the feeling it looks better. For increasing the size of the frontsail, I might have to remove the front mast (which is now visible due to a flashy light).

Wow! I love how this boat looks! the beast is really cool, look like the sand-monster on starwars ( the one in the desert , with jabba.. ) , your boat make looks like a ship that can stand in "One Piece" ( a manga) , the ships in this manga always have strange things like the skull hands you put and the mouth at the rear !

that's a really nice start! now I really want to see the finished entry with the minifigs on it and , maybe .. a sea ? ^^

That looks quite a bit better! I really love the skeletons on the ship and the sea monster is disgusting but lovely at the same time!
I think removing the front mast, or moving it further back would be good so you can make the front sail larger.

That looks better, but I think you might be able to improve it more if you swap the front and back sails. That way, there will be less area between the forward and middle masts, and it will probably fix the problem of the high stern.

I must say though, that red sarlacc-like monster is excellent! I hope the final scene will include a few prisoners being eaten by it.

Hey all, thanks for the replies, I will continue building next week, as I have to prepare for some job interviews this week It is always such a hassle to stall out all my lego containers, so I don't start building building unless I can build a few hours straight.

I have indeed decided to put the front mast back a bit and increase the sail size. Switching the sails looked a bit akward, as the backsail needs to be quite big to look ok.

Oh and the stern is not yet completely finished so I will post pictures of that when I complete the MOC.
