Hello,

I'm pleased to show my new british frigate. I call it "HMS Active". It is a 30-gun ship.
I was inspirated of the Patrick O'Brian Romans to build this ship.

That's looking great Daniel, TLC could learn something from you!

Few suggestions though:

1. The masts could use a litte work, the main mast should be higher than the fore mast and perhaps it would look nice when moved a bit backwards.
I'd suggest you add an extra small sail on the top mast.
2. The Gun ports, they should be offset. It looks nicer, and it is more realistic. On real ships guns were positioned offset for a better dividing of the weight of the guns. :pir-wink:
Like on this pretty boat:

That aside, I think you made a mighty fine ship!

A great ship and very well made. My only concern is that the bow seems a bit low, I think it would look a bit better if it was raised up slightly.

A majestic looking ship in a beautiful and clear design, very nice indeed. :pir-cry_happy:
I think that Mr. Tiber´s suggestion about these offset gun ports could really add to it´s overall appearance, though.

I like the color scheme. But I have two suggestions. Add tumblehome and as said before off set the gunports. It looks good though I like it. Its built more like a small ship of the line rather than a frigate, but the number of cannon rate a ship, so I know why you call it a frigate.

This is just what we need!

For a time there all we saw were ship MOCs and then they almost disappered. Very few ship MOCs whatsoever!

I think this one is worthy of frontpageness and perhaps newsletterness also!

why you call it a frigate.

Well, this is a light frigate.I arrange this myself. Here I think one have a lot of possibilities.

Very impressive indeed. This has the imposing feel of all great MOCs, all the more so since it is a giant weapon of war. Some lovely details, but I was more taken with how well the model as a whole presented itself. A nice symetry and a well planed scale...

God Bless,

Nathan

Yes, I agree with Norro above. The overall feel to this creation is great. Fantastic job! Love all the cannon portholes.

I understand that this is a frigate and you arranged it yourself. I am just saying historically, frigates have the majority of the guns on a single gundeck, and some on the quarter deck, depending on how large of a frigate the ship is. And frigates for the most part where flushed decked ships.
Here is a link to a non lego model that shows you what I am talking about.

With all that said I still really like the design of the ship, And it is well built.

So what do you think you might do to your frigate now you've got some feedback?

I was read on the Bolitho & Co website there were ships with this design in the Napoleon Wars, but not much. Therefore I made the decision.
Otherwise I know, which mostly gave it the ships, which "HMS243" described.

This ship is like a BSB on steroids!

The stern is a little square, but i really like the design of it.

Is that B's British flag is see, or did you make the same flag on your own?

Over all the ship has very fine lines.
The only improvement i'd recommend is adding a Tumblehome Effect to your ship.

This MOC has been added to the Index of MOC Ships.
