Finished building the QAR last night, and I must say it is spectacular. It is considerably bigger in length than the Pearl, which surprised me. My only gripe, and I have the same problem with the Pearl, is the lack of canons! Why can't LEGO give us enough canons to fill at least on full side! It would be great if it had enough canons to fill both sides, but that might be a bit much. Still, a beautiful set.

A few weeks ago I picked up a second copy of Kraken Attackin' from the local Toys 'R' Us, the last item lingering on the shelves here from the '09 Pirates line.

I still have very little of the Pirates of the Caribbean line, though I'd love to get those eventually as well.

She's beautiful! A lot bigger than I expected from the box (by far my largest set) , and the colors are just lovely. If there's anything I don't like it's those huge hatches on the top deck, but that's easy to mod. I'll probably turn her into a 16 gun two-decker sometime.

I got an eldorado fortress and lagoon lock-up bundle.
A caribbean clipper, forbidden island, sabre island, and raft raiders bundle.
And a lot of 8 bluecoat soldiers.

I am very excited for them to arrive in the mail as these will be my first classic pirate official sets.  I currently just have a poor-man's black seas barracuda I built from parts I had and some from bricklink, with many a color/part-swap in the build.
My plan is to focus on the bluecoats/pirates.

Over the weekend I purchased the Black Pearl at 15% off. I'd been on the fence about getting it but I am a sucker for Lego sailing ships. I actually think the ship looks better 'in the flesh' so to speak than it does in pictures. I'm also prepared to revise my opinion that the QAR was the best POTC ship. I actually think the Black Pearl despite having considerably less pieces is better designed and feels more complete.

Good find.  For me it started looking a lot better when I replaced the black sails with white and added some color to the build.  It's really a solid design I think, minus the black/gray color scheme and a few minor gripes about the bow and the back rudder.

After 21 days since it's released, I finally got my copy of the Black Pearl. This was my last set to complete my PotC-sets. And I must say they did a great job to make the ship appealing to AFOLS and kids.
The only problem is space. This 1st 'wave' takes all my space on the shelves  :pir_laugh2:

6276 Eldorado Fortress: I love it! It's even better than I thought. I bought it with instructions in very good condition for around 50 EUR. I'm glad I now can name this set my own...

I bought the Tortuga Island set. I was looking at the London Escape or the QAR, but Discounted they were still asking more then I was willing to give for it. So I got persuaded by the shine gold, which was indeed shiny :D

After almost two decades of waiting and wanting, I finally tracked down a copy of the comic The Golden Medallion!  This means that I have everything Pirates-related from the release year of 1989.   :pir-cry_happy:  Now to tackle the other years...

My husband gave the Renegade Runner and Caribbean Clipper for Christmas. We were trying to stay out of Pirates since we were so focused on Castle, but with Pirates of the Caribbean and the new Imperial Flagship, I just went crazy over the ships. So he surprised me with two of the older Pirate ships.

Now I just need to get the Black Seas Barracuda so I can have some female representation on these pirate ships! Or I'll just need to make my own with an all female crew and they'll rule the open seas. lol!

Here are the MOCs that my husband and I built: Flickr and BrickShelf

My Husband's first novel, The Cleric, is published and available on
Amazon (both print & Kindle ebook)! It's a humoristic tale of moderate adventure with a dash of romance.

I managed to get 6242 Soldiers Fort brand new for a good price. I've been wanting that set ever since I first saw it, and in spite of being mainly into Castle the allure was just too strong for me to pass up on it.

My wife bought me Queen Anne's Revenge for Christmas.  My first pirate ship!  Although my daughter points out that I do have a rowboat from the Isle de Muerta set.

My brother gave me the Fountain of Youth set for Christmas, but the big surprise was my uncle giving me the Queen Anne's Revenge!  I've never received a LEGO pirate ship for Christmas...or as a gift...or a set that big as a gift...I'm so excited!  So now Blackbeard can really set sail to find the Fountain of Youth.  :)
