New Parts for LGEO Library

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

As suggested in the Ldraw Model thread I decided to share my personnal LGEO library.

Last Version:

My library is a bit different from the original LGEO one:

I have usually 2 files per part :

  • lg_xxxx.inc (LGEO file containing Patterns and Studs)
  • xxxx.inc (High quality STL file converted into PovRay format)

While waiting for a better solution, you will need to add :

#declare L3LDrawToLgeo = transform { matrix <0,-LG_BRICK_WIDTH/20,0, 0,0,-LG_BRICK_HEIGHT/24, -LG_BRICK_WIDTH/20,0,0, 0,0,4*LG_BRICK_HEIGHT/24> }

#declare L3LgeoToLDraw = transform { matrix <0,0,-20/LG_BRICK_WIDTH, -20/LG_BRICK_WIDTH,0,0, 0,-24/LG_BRICK_HEIGHT,0, 0,0,0> }

at the end of your lg_defs.inc file (just above the very last "}") or use my own lg_defs.inc provided in the package (but it might conflict with Owen's one on some parts).

You may want to put the lg_xxxx.inc files in your usual LGEO directory and the xxxx.inc files in another folder (don't forget to declare it in PovRay or it will not find the requested files)

There is a high probability that some Parts already exist in the Official LGEO library or other users-made ones. Be aware of it if you overwrite some file.

You need to put LGEO.xml in your Ldview install directory (be aware that you will overwrite your own file that might have parts that mine doesn't have).

When colors are needed (for Patterns for instance) it uses Ldview exported material format (LDXColorx).

My package doesn't contains lg_color.inc, but it must be accessible by PovRay.

The unpacked archive will be more than 1.5 Gb because of the high quality STL files, don't be feared of that, but make sure that you have enough hard drive space for it.

Be aware that this should be considered as a Work In Progress. I cannot guarantee that it will be free of issues. I'm working toward integrated it in the ldraw AIOI.

Do not hesitate to test it, ask questions and give me feedback here, it works on my system but I don't know if it will in others.

Amazing work Darats! :thumbup: :thumbup:

Personally, I don't render (anymore).

I'd like to get into rendering again, but for some reason I keep postponing it. :look:

Well, maybe today...

To embed pictures from Dropbox, you need to make a share link (just like you did with the download files) and copy that link and put it into the post using the image button. BUT, you need to change the ?dl=0 to ?dl=1.

Your LGEO parts are highly appreciated! Thats great. Thank you so much.

I followed your instructions but I have still some problems to get it run properly:

- I started by just adding 5 parts from your lg_xxxx.inc-library to the LGEO\lg folder (e.g. lg_0112 and lg_2340, whereas lg_2340 was already available, but I changed to your file)

- I added the complete STL-file to the povray folder => POV-Ray\v3.7\include\STL Parts and changed the libraray path respectively

- Additionally I exchanged the LGEO.xml file

And this is result:

left side: "old" version right side: "new" version, after applying your changes

2340_tail.jpg

It seems that there is no LGEO effect anymore! So far I have no idea what I made wrong.

I just made the following observation: If LGEO/LDview works properly you usually find something like "#include "lg_2340.inc" // Tail 4 x 1 x 3" in the pov file. After applying your xml file there is no similar code in the pov file. This may explain why there is no LGEO effect at all?

Any idea what might went wrong and how I can resolve it? It would be a mess not to be able to use your part definitions!

kind regards

Thanks for the hint, but it gave quite bad image quality, as if it was compressed by Dropbox.

I've fixed the problem anyway by using Brickshelf (please tell me if the pictures are still unavailable).

Right, looking at your pov file, you are right it's like LGEO is not activated for Ldview exportation, or that part 2340 is not recognized in the xml file.

Only difference I can see between your pov file and mine is:

Use inline POV code from LDraw file? (1 = YES; 0 = NO), mine is always at 0, yours is 1, you can maybe try to change the setting in Ldview Pov export.

What you could try is reuse your old xml file, and render part 2340. As the old LGEO part is replaced by mine, it should work. Then it would mean that there is something wrong with the xml file.

I have compared my XML file with Owen's one, and I can't see any difference, I would say that there is something wrong with your setting that does allow Ldview to use the right XML file.

Also make sure that the XML file you replaced was the one in the install directory of Ldview.

Thanks for your fast response!

Unfortuntely neither "POV code from LDraw file = No" nor switching back to the old xml-file resulted in some improvement.

Using the old xml-file in combination with the new lg_2340.inc render failed due to an undeclared identifier in lg_2340.inc::

"C:\Program Files\LDraw\LGEO\lg\lg_2340.inc" line 21: Parse Error: No matching } in '{', undeclared identifier 'L3LgeoToLDraw' found instead.

=> ????????

OK, this I can understand.

Re-download the package, I've added my lg_defs.inc, using it should get rid of the L3LgeoToLDraw error. Don't do this, it will mess with Owen lg_defs.inc file.

I will need to contact him to see if we can harmonize everything.

As a workaround, you can get rid of the L3LgeoToLDraw errors by adding this at the end of your lg_defs.inc file (just above the #end statement at the end of the file).

#declare L3LDrawToLgeo = transform { matrix <0,-LG_BRICK_WIDTH/20,0, 0,0,-LG_BRICK_HEIGHT/24, -LG_BRICK_WIDTH/20,0,0, 0,0,4*LG_BRICK_HEIGHT/24> }

#declare L3LgeoToLDraw = transform { matrix <0,0,-20/LG_BRICK_WIDTH, -20/LG_BRICK_WIDTH,0,0, 0,-24/LG_BRICK_HEIGHT,0, 0,0,0> }

Then, I assume that my xml file is giving something wrong with your system. I will dig deeper into it.

Maybe, if someone else can also try and give feedback to see if everyone have the problem.

EDIT 1: could you send me your xml file, I will be able to better compare them.

EDIT 2: could you send me a screenshot of the entire PovRay export settings you are using with Ldview.

OK, so there is no more problem with the LGEO.xml, just make sure you click on the link, and not Right Click -> Save As.

I will continu to release parts, and I'm just waiting for Owen to answer me in order to merge our two lg_defs.inc file and have nice fillet between studs and brick surfaces.

Yeah, it works fine now!! Using the right LGEO.xml file resolved the problem.

I repeat: Regarding the xml-file do not "right click" and do not "save (target) as..." ! This creates a lot of trouble ...

Those patterned slope parts look a bit too rought in my opinion...

Just wondering: how long have you been working on those part (except for the clean-up you're doing now)? It looks like quite a lot of work...

The roughness is not set in my file, it's set by ldview, roughness will be different depending on each user setting. This one, is the one I like, but the angle give it a bit to bright due to the lights.

I have created those parts since 4 or 5 years ago. But making a part is not that long, I have just accumulated a lot of them. And I have semi automated the pattern definition to go from ldraw to LGEO.
