Mike S Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Treasure Island came in the mail today. My son and I put it together and I took pics as we progressed. I will let the pics speak for themselves. The Box Contents of box Bag 1 Bag 2 Minifigs The minifigs are great! All have backprinting on their torsos and lady pirate has double sided head showing battle expression and happy expression. The "skin" color on her chest and back is off just a tad bit but not nearly as noticeable as the Swashbuckler's torso from the collectable minifigures line. With the red torso, I wouldn't expect it to be any better. Extra Pieces Bonus Instructions Pic We put this set together in 15 minutes or so not including taking the pics. I really quite like the set and I have not a single complaint. The tree pulley to lift the skull is pretty clever. All in all the set is actually more refined in my opinion than most of the sets in the history of the Lego Pirates line. Quote
dr_spock Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Thank you for the review. It looks like a must get set for me. Interesting the tree is made with brown Technic connectors and axles. The new alligator is going to clash with my old alligators. Quote
GeneralWashington420 Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 I recently got some money, this will be the first set I'm going to purchase Quote
Spud The Viking Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Still seems a bit pricey for what it is, in my opinion of course. Quote
Captain Braunsfeld Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Thanks for the review - I'll buy it as soon as I see it. Quote
Zarana-X Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 This isn't a particularly spectacular set by itself, but the figures and parts are nice, and it will be a good base to build upon. Quote
Hive Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Hmm I think I like the treasure island from the 2009 wave better overall. But the figures in this one are superior, with the female pirate being the star of the set. Quote
Mike S Posted February 11, 2015 Author Posted February 11, 2015 Hmm I think I like the treasure island from the 2009 wave better overall. But the figures in this one are superior, with the female pirate being the star of the set. Are you referring to 6241 Loot Island? If so, I'm curious as to your reasons. I never got any of the 2009 sets but comparing the two by photos, personally I think the 2015 Treasure Island trumps the 2009 Loot Island. Quote
Dreamweb Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Nothing original about the design and thus it is pretty representative for this 2015 line as a whole. If I'm not mistaken this is the 3rd island set with a giant skull. However, it does have some usefull pieces, and the minifigs are great, especially the lady. And to be honest it does look better than 2009 Loot Island which was the worst set of that wave IMO. I will probably get it for the parts. The Box I wonder if that image in the background is a teaser of an upcoming ship - one for the soldiers perhaps? Quote
Sir_Basil_Ashton Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Thank you for the review. This is a nice set that I can't wait to get my hands on. Quote
Ltfalcon Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 (edited) I've purchased and assembled all of the 2015 sets and in MHO they trump 2009 Pirates. This is based on more clever designs with limited part counts and a lot of added details including updated minifigures. These sets are also designed utilizing standard plates and bricks, a good example dark red brick blocks and not printed panels with red bricks. In the end they look and feel like higher quality sets and this is the reason why everyone is buying them for parts. Buy all of these sets and link the sub sets together to get full Pirates vs. Bluecoats effect, theses are all A+ Including the Juniors set. Edited March 25, 2015 by Ltfalcon Quote
Captain Pirate Man Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 I have this set, not a bad litte set.not as good as classic pirate sets though... Quote
Capn Frank Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Thank you for creating this review Mike S. This is definitely a must have in my pirate collection. Quote
AFOLguy1970 Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 This small set certainly has its strengths. We picked one up last Saturday. The mechanism to access the treasure behind the skull is nicely executed. As an AFOL, my focus is on the bluecoat soldier, who could be my favorite minifig this year. I need eight of him to replace the pawns in the chess set. The extra pieces are certainly useful, especially with the weapons and oars. Perhaps a future MOC could involve some sort of armory for all of these. The pirate queen could get the interest of some female enthusiasts. The cannon can help augment the Brick Bounty. It does look like a quick build for a $20 set, but I like the assortment of parts. Quote
Captain Pirate Man Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 (edited) I have this set, and combined with the other even smaller set (I forget the name) it becomes pretty decent. But still nothing to write home about, not like the pirate sets of old. I can only give this an average rating, and that is including combining it with the shipwreck set. On it's own, I think it's slightly below average. I plan on modding the crap out of it, to really make it something. It does have some nice features, but it just feels So small. So unlike the pirate forts of old. You can't pull a ship up next to it, no way, it will just dwarf it. Only row boats can approach this set. That's why I prefer the older sets, they had some size to them. Edited March 25, 2015 by Captain Pirate Man Quote
Hive Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Are you referring to 6241 Loot Island? If so, I'm curious as to your reasons. I never got any of the 2009 sets but comparing the two by photos, personally I think the 2015 Treasure Island trumps the 2009 Loot Island. Sorry about the late reply, I didn't see your question untill now... Actually, upon further consideration, I now believe this new Treasure Island is slightly better than Loot Island. I like that the baseplate (even though it's a weird one) gives the old set a bigger presence and it's nice that both factions get a flag - but most everything else is a bit better done in the new one. And 2/3 minifigs are superior in the new version Quote
josykay Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 (edited) Not that spectacular, but I kind of love that set. It is much better than the 2009 island, especially since it doesn't have that huge baseplate. The only thing I do not like is the Technik tree. I kind of liked the older plam better. The boat is pretty standard, sure. But there is nothing wrong about it. As for the stud shooter..., yeah I know that item is aimed for the younger audience, but is not that bad, compared to old shooting things... I would just wish, that the stud shooter's barrel would be a little bit longer. Then it would look like more like a light cannon/ swivel gun. As in the larger sets the minifigures are lovely. I really like that pirate lady! A nice new bluecoat and well, a standard pirate. Oh and of course the new alligator nothing you would not want. Edited March 25, 2015 by josykay Quote
Cervantes Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 The main draw for me is the female pirate fig. Quote
Robert8 Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 (edited) Just got this set today.... and I glad I did The play feature is pretty nice and well done. The minifigures are great, especially the female pirate. This is my first pirate woman minifigure. She looks like the evil twin of the S9 Fortune Teller. . Her color scheme matches the Captain Pirate from S8, which is a good thing, IMO. Totally worth the price. My olny complain would be the animals. That crocodile looks like a cartoon. I don't like it The 70410 Soldiers Outpost set has better animals.... It seems I'll have to get that one soon. Edited May 5, 2015 by Robert8 Quote
Endriu Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 bought it today - finally gave in to the temptation :) Quote
J031 Ty3r Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 Has some good pieces and a lot of extras I might get it sometime Quote
