Octan Corporation

The glorious Octan corporation has been in existence for as long as Legokind has needed power. Everything from oil to batteries, through to giant space-station powering supra-photonic-awesomnium generators, Octan has you covered.
Octan's goal has always been the same: expand it's business everywhere and in every way to ensure it's domination over the consumers!

Thanks to hundreds of billions of dollars (and probably more than a few lives), Lord Business has managed to evade aging since cars were 4-wide, and is still managing the whole company with his grasp of steel and pushing his employees to their limits... and sometimes beyond.

Lord Business is all about growth, growth, growth, until only Octan remains. In the end, he seeks to outcompete, absorb, or demolish anyone or anything that stands in his way.

Prospection mission

Octan corporation is specialized on extraction and harvesting of natural resources. It's factories produce litteraly everything, and have mastered to highest point the planned obsolescence technology.

Octan is also famous for its mastery of spaceship building. Engineers created all sort of ships, from the supersized harvester to small escort ships, to explore the depths of space and extract the maximum resource they can.

Farmolis - "Large flat grassy plains and forests, broken up by numerous small oceans."

farmolis.png
As usual Octan plays it reasonable save. After a few months of exploration, they discovered a planet, Farmolis, which was suitable for settlement. A quiet environment, outstretched fields of waving long grasses and easy accessible streams of liquid Awesomnium. At a junction of two veins flowing together, they build a large mining factory surrounded by small compounds. Supply ships brought building materials and before the years end the first facility was finished. The returning supply ships were filled with Awesomnium. The Octan board saw profits rise and approved the mission to expand. A large selection of profit seekers were send out to the home planet and maximize the Octan presence to ensure their position in the market.

Farmolis is similar to what our home used to look like. Wide grasslands, surrounded by large wood-like supplies with deep oceans dividing the continents. No mountains interupting the wide spread fields. On the surface small streams of Awesomnium draw purple lines between the fields. The oxygen level of this planet is reasonable and the weather seems to feed the environment well. Octan did a good job finding a planet closest to home conditions. It doesn’t really matter where they settle, every spot is spot on and close to rich supplies.

A word from Octan Corporation CEO

ATTENTION NEW RECRUITS:

We're glad to see your interest in AG and Octan, in particular. Because of the large number of posts to the various threads and the evolution of the game over time, we wanted to post a general welcome and introduction to Octan.

Generally, this forum is a great place to post interesting landscape builds of any type of terrain that you want. Octan builders worked very hard from day one to procure as much territory on the AG Map that it could so that our builders would have the best options for building. As of Week 8, we have the ability to control, defend, and build on 27 unique planets, all of which are ready for you to define, embellish, and develop using your own techniques, story, and characters.

It is also a great place to exhibit your spaceships, starfighters, cargo ships, mechs, walkers, or any kind of sci-fi vehicle you can dream up. Octan accent colors are white, red, and green, but not everything you build has to be for the corporation (there are aliens, pirates, and competing corporations too). Light blue grey is also a great base for a vehicle that greebles and photographs very well against our colors.

Do not feel overwhelmed by the prospects of having to post a weekly build. As Octan transitions from a exploration/domination phase into a development plan, we are going to be much less focused on coordinated domination of specific planets, and more focused on individual development and a more relaxed pace of building. Basically, we'd love for you to build with us whether you post one build, a build every week, or a build whenever the heck you feel like it. In Octan, You define your story, You choose your planets, You choose what to build, and You choose when to build (No Exceptions).

We are just beginning to explore what we can do with this little universe. Our builders are active and ready to help you develop your ideas, introduce new building techniques, critique works-in-progress, and help with photography and photo editing. Our goal is to develop great builders, encourage rich stories and interesting builds, and have fun. PM Dannylonglegs, Wicknole, myself, or any of our active builders for any questions or concerns you might have. We're looking forward to building with you.

- Pilot John Hannibal (goatman461)

"Hello? Is anyone here? I was supposed to report here, but can't seem to find anyone? If this Octan Corp. is a place where fridays are weekend days I might rethink my application here. :hmpf_bad:

I'm an engineer and like to do some engineering on the Awsomnium pumps here on Farmolis. This new facility is pretty okay, but in my opinion the pumps can be more efficient. I'll start making a prototype right away, since nobody is giving orders around here..."

Good looking team so far. Eager to get started. Thanks for putting this together, Bob.

I'm going to start building for H05. Any thoughts on what a "cold" swamp/jungle looks like? Would it be a bog?

Edit: Forgot to ask... Do we have a signature generator in the works? If not, I could work on some kind of Octan employee badge next week.

"Salutations, Doctor Danielle Long signing in. Ah. The Andromeda Galaxy; rife with scientific discoveries to be made, and new worlds to be exploited. Mmmmm. I can just smell the Awesomnium. We expand For profit and progress."

I was planning on exploring H05 myself. See you there.

I do have questions since we are only allowed one build a week:

What defines a week? Sunday through Saturday? If that is the case, if I submit a build now, will the week get reset on Sunday (meaning that this first week is short)? What if I miss a week, is it possible to make it up with two builds?

I can't say I know the answer to your first question, but I can hazard a guess as to what the answer To this question is: no, but you can build extra on one week and post the extra one on a week when you don't have time to build.

Hi fellow Octan workers. I'm Bob of Quatrian, your CEO (for now). I hope we'll do great profits together :classic:

The week reset on friday. A missed week is a missed week!

Backstory: Boxerlego grew up in a junkyard and was raised by a master engine builder.

Now fresh out of the Octane Technical Engineering Academy with his engineering talents. Boxerlego is ready to start building for Octane Corporation.

Anyone else got a build in the works? I'm working on a biplane shaped spaceship sorta thing. Mostly for flight around the atmosphere of a given planet, so I was thinking about basing it on our planet Farmolis.

I've got one shot and edited for H05 that'll hopefully be up today.

Is there any reason to build on Farmolis? It seems to me that this game is a land grab at this point and we should secure the rare resources and set a perimeter against the other corporations

Not much reason to build on Farmolis. We should expand and secure supplies of water and biomass.

Looks like we're coming out swinging. Lets keep hitting 'em.

Based on the tech tree... (1) I'm thinking it'll take us a bit to start buying stuff, (2) awesomnium appears to be more valuable (yet, equally displaced on the map). If we head to G02 via H05-H04-G03, we will get a water and biomass planet on the way, so we shouldn't need to divert our builds elsewhere, just yet.

So we should look at H05 as the next planet to build for? Switching shouldn't be hard, since it's just a vehicle.

Edit: Some of the Kawashita members have been pointing out that the outer ring is pretty valuable in terms of strategic locations. What do you guys think about that?

I think they're right that it's the only way to secure all three rare-resource-planets, but I don't think we have the man power to take up the same strategy. Maybe if we beat them to G02 we can trade with them instead of giving up the entire "outer rim"

Hello Octan Corporation! I, Jed O'Reilly , have just joined as a Special Forces officer. I believe for my first course of action I will travel to Livgorn (H05) to steal maps and data from the sentinent aliens on the planet.

I agree with the sentiment. Perhaps after we all go to H05, some of us can go to I06 and stake our claim on the ring?

Also, Where's everyone getting those swanky banners?

Oops, sorry for double post. I forgot how long the merge timer was. :sceptic:
