PaddyBricksplitter Posted November 7, 2015 Hi all, The parts arrived today so here's another 16x16 mini modular house. This time it's the domestic bliss that is The Tower of Orthanc from Lord of the Rings. It is very cloudy here in Ireland today but I did my best to compensate with the camera settings. It's far from ideal but I took the picture anyway. Hope ya like it :D
KlodsBrik Posted November 7, 2015 Not to bad at all. Now, not that i could do it any better, but the "wings" on the top of the tower looks quite big compared to the rest. Besides that its a pretty nice mini.
Bricky Dee Williams Posted November 7, 2015 I love it! I actually just took mine out again today! I love what you did with the scaling, although like KlodsBrik pointed out, the tower fins look quite large. But all in al, it's beautiful! Love how Gandalf has a coffee cup! Complimentary breakfast for stay, I guess.
PaddyBricksplitter Posted November 7, 2015 Yeah maybe you guys are right. I didn't scale the fins at the top from the original, they are the same size. I think I will remove the outer row of bricks before I build my Lego street. Helpful guys, thanks for the input :)
Andy D Posted November 7, 2015 That my friend is just the right size for the Tower of Othanic. I got one as a gift, put it together and have been wondering what to do with it ever since. I think I will take it apart and make one like this. Much better for display space. I look forward to more of your creations (so I can copy them). KlodsBrik Posted November 7, 2015 (edited) "tower fins" lol ... Thanks, i had no clue what the appropriate word should be. I think I will remove the outer row of bricks. Helpful guys, thanks for the input :) Sounds like that might do it ! Looking forward for more! Edit: Did i miss out on the Star Wars one you talked about yesterday in your mini GB modular, or is it still to be build ? Helpful guys, thanks for the input :) I think the "Tower Fins" are just fine, it gives a certain grandiose appearance to the structure. Adds interest. I plan to use the large "Tower Fins" when I copy this. Just MHO, YMMV Andy D
Graham Gidman Posted November 7, 2015 Very nice job.

Edit: Did i miss out on the Star Wars one you talked about yesterday in your mini GB modular, or is it still to be build ? Well there's only one way to find out. Im Interested to see how it looks and it's still a wip until I finish the rest. I'm still waiting on a few parts for the Star Wars one. I'll post that next week some time hopefully. Andy D Thanks Andy, I used the instructions from booklet 3 from the set to make this one. I left out a few rows of bricks from above the slanted roof area and left out the bottom part of the fins to reduce the scale. If you have it already it should be easy to modify. Very nice job. :)
mediumsnowman Posted November 7, 2015 Great job! The street of completed ones will look awesome. I would think, being LOTR, this would go in Historic Themes... But I'm not a mod so I'll leave it up to them.

Actor Builder Posted November 7, 2015 I like this! I look forward to seeing these all together!
deraven Posted November 7, 2015 That's great! I think the fins are only too large if you're going for a serious, scaled-down version. However, for an over-the-top mini modular house, I think they actually work better being oversized as Andy D said! That is going to be one really interesting street! Andy D Posted November 7, 2015 (edited) How about a photo of the ones you have completed together, just do we can see how the street is shaping up? Andy D Edited November 7, 2015 by Andy D
BlueberryWaffles Posted November 7, 2015 Another great one! Did you use the top part of the tower as inspiration? It looks similar to the original set. Gandalf and Saruman's accessories are funny as well.
PaddyBricksplitter Posted November 7, 2015 I like this! I look forward to seeing these all together! Me too :) That is going to be one really interesting street! I hope so :) How about a photo of the ones you have completed together, just do we can see how the street is shaping up? Andy D Well I would like to make some more houses first, so it actually looks like a street, that's going to take me a while. It's either going to look great or really odd. Another great one! Did you use the top part of the tower as inspiration? It looks similar to the original set. Gandalf and Saruman's accessories are funny as well. Thanks a lot. Yes it's basically the top of the tower with a few alterations.
neonic Posted November 9, 2015 The wings are maybe a bit big but I think it looks good. Looks like a bit of caricature Gives me also some inspiration for my truck.
gamejutzu Posted November 9, 2015 I like how they're both chilling. Neat job. Would you also make Ents around the same height as the tower?
PaddyBricksplitter Posted November 9, 2015 Good job thx The wings are maybe a bit big but I think it looks good. Looks like a bit of caricature Gives me also some inspiration for my truck. I might reduce them, but it is supposed to look ridiculous so...maybe not :) I like how they're both chilling. Neat job. Would you also make Ents around the same height as the tower? Thx. Chilling on a Saturday morning in Middle Earth :DRegarding Ents they would have to be little shrubs to fit into the garden area, just to stick to the mini modular house theme. Lego Dino 500 Posted November 11, 2015 thx I might reduce them, but it is supposed to look ridiculous so...maybe not :) Thx. Chilling on a Saturday morning in Middle Earth :D Regarding Ents they would have to be little shrubs to fit into the garden area, just to stick to the mini modular house theme. I was looking it up just now, and Ents are actually about 10 feet tall at the most, with Treebeard at around 14 feet tall. You could easily do some micro-Ents about 2 or 3 bricks tall and put them in the garden.
PaddyBricksplitter Posted November 12, 2015 My favorite mini-modular yet! Thanks man :) I was looking it up just now, and Ents are actually about 10 feet tall at the most, with Treebeard at around 14 feet tall. You could easily do some micro-Ents about 2 or 3 bricks tall and put them in the garden. I thought Ents straight away for the front of the house, I'm not really worried about correct scale, I mean it's not an issue stopping me from making them or anything. What I wanted to say was, yes that's a good idea, they would work well in the garden area. I should definitely include them.
