Plissken Posted February 12, 2011 (edited) This is my first attempt at building a medieval house. It's still a WIP. There is still a lot to do. Some Brick Link orders will help a lot . At the moment it's a first impression. The whole green stuff will surely change if I continue the build. I will also try to use the section under the roof for some kind of sleeping chamber. Critics, tips, hints and comments are welcome. Oh, the baseplate will get a cleaning before it's finished. Enjoy. Hunters Hut (WIP) 01 by plisskeneb, on Flickr The Front windows will change. Some brown frames are on their way. Hunters Hut (WIP) 02 by plisskeneb, on Flickr Hunters Hut (WIP) 03 by plisskeneb, on Flickr The interior. Not so much to see. I will improve the furniture and a few tiles are still missing. Edited May 21, 2011 by Rufus Indexed!
Geertos13 Posted February 12, 2011 Ouah, Looks Great so far The Outside is very nice with all those plants around it, In my opinion there is no need for changing that. Maybe that tree in the Back could get some extra designing work because it looks a bit plain. From the inside, the House, as you have said, needs some work indeed. It's too plain but I'm sure you'll fix that The thing that bugs me a bit, is the Roof. It is an original idea, but the upper part of the front wall has too many gasps in it to look realistic. These 1x1 cones Look okay together, but the void that they create isn't appropriate. If I might suggest something, If I were you, I would continue the wall normaly in brown, and with slopes on the sides. That would make it fairly more appealing to the eye and easier to build if you ask me. I've always loved that Elf Minifigure, so there's nothing to improve there. I would absolutly love to have an animal or two here and there ; a cow or a horse would look great, but just a rat on the floor would also be satisfying. I'm Hopping to see this grow ut to a small masterpiece !
I Scream Clone Posted February 12, 2011 Im liking the top half. The bottom arches could be longer and include the arch windows to carry the wood theme down to the stonework some more. Perhaps some vines growing on the walls would improve the organic integration of the house into its environment too. Interesting to see where this will head. Serge Gainsbrick Posted February 13, 2011 I agree with poster above in that the 1X1 cones really don't look well. I would try to make a solid facade instead. The cones aside, the roof technique and colors do look good though. Good work overall!
Baylego Posted February 13, 2011 It is looking nice so far! You should put some cheese slopes on to help seal the roof better. A larger interior would be nice too.
XimenaPaulina Posted February 13, 2011 Nice work Plissken! But for some reason I've always imagined Elves living in mountain/tree houses(?), could be wrong though. The coned roof looks good, though he gaps are quite noticeable. Looking forward how this one develops.
Plissken Posted February 13, 2011 Thanks to all you guys for the comments, very helpful. Now some more detailed answers. Maybe that tree in the Back could get some extra designing work because it looks a bit plain. The thing that bugs me a bit, is the Roof. It is an original idea, but the upper part of the front wall has too many gasps in it to look realistic. It is looking nice so far! You should put some cheese slopes on to help seal the roof better. A larger interior would be nice too. I tried to use brown cheese slopes, but they don't fill the gaps as I whished. The tree on the other hand is some kind of placeholder. It will be redesigned if some needed parts arrive. Im liking the top half. The bottom arches could be longer and include the arch windows to carry the wood theme down to the stonework some more. Perhaps some vines growing on the walls would improve the organic integration of the house into its environment too. Interesting to see where this will head. I changed the window holes to fill them with arched frames in brown. Plants will be added later to the facade. Nice work Plissken! But for some reason I've always imagined Elves living in mountain/tree houses(?), could be wrong though. Yes, it is a very unusual home for an elve. My intention was that he is the only one left (only one official Lego elf) and he took care of an abandoned house in the woods. He changed it to his needs and plant a "magic tree" (see the different kinds of fruit it carries) And now some new pics: Hunters Hut (WIP) 04 by plisskeneb, on Flickr New overview. Improved the roof, the front of it and changed the windows next to the door. Hunters Hut (WIP) 05 by plisskeneb, on Flickr Foldable Ladder to get to the upper floor. Hunters Hut (WIP) 06 by plisskeneb, on Flickr Back of the Hut with entrance to the Bedroom. The chimney is "connected with this room (brick with hole) to heat it up. The fireplace on the first floor needs to be moved to the correct position. Hunters Hut (WIP) 07 by plisskeneb, on Flickr Overview of the top floor. Some tiles are missing and will be added later. A small place with chest, weapon crate and comfortable bed. Hunters Hut (WIP) 08 by plisskeneb, on Flickr A small brick buildt creature. Maybe a magical pet or something to hunt. I'm not sure at the moment
Captain Becker Posted February 13, 2011 (edited) Excellent job whit this so far I like the idea whit the ladder and how you used those arms. Also i love that brickbuild animal, its so cute I hope at the elf wont be hunting on that poor animal Also, where is the bed? Im sure elfs have to sleep somehow too isnt that right? Good job overall, i love the overall look and the idea at you made the second floor as some kinda of storing area. Keep it up and keep us updated Captain Becker Edited February 13, 2011 by Captain Becker
Geertos13 Posted February 13, 2011 Oh very nice new pictures ! Told ya the Slopes would look nice ! I do think you should edit the first post too. So that we can see the original pictures, AND the newer pictures in the first post. It's up to you though. The second floor looks pretty nice too and that Ladder is lovely That creature looks a bit like a rabbit.. Or is it a misshapen chicken ? In anycase it surely looks super cute ! Plissken Posted February 15, 2011 Thank you guys. I think I'll edit the first post when it is finished (the beginning/the end), or maybe like you said. I don't know at the moment but I'm thinking about it. The creature started out as a rabbit but for the lack of parts it turned out like this. Oh and btw I decided that it is a pet not prey I received a Bricklink order today and worked a bit on the MOC. Here are the results. Enjoy. Hunters Hut WIP009 by plisskeneb, on Flickr New overview shot. Added a small tree in front of the house, some vines, a horse, a small seat under the tree and the way to the ladder is almost finished. Hunters Hut WIP010 by plisskeneb, on Flickr The new windows. The back of the house got also two new windows (instead of the long narrow arch). Hunters Hut WIP011 by plisskeneb, on Flickr The road to the ladder with a small place to rest if it is to hard for you ;) Hunters Hut WIP012 by plisskeneb, on Flickr The bedroom is now completely tiled. You can also see the hole in the wall that connects the room with the chimney.
iamded Posted February 16, 2011 I gotta say, having just come across this it's been very fun to see it change. Looking good now, very lush and busy environment, and the house is neat! I do like the little bench in the corner by the tree. Great job here, Plissken!
Plissken Posted February 17, 2011 Thanks for your reply. I added the front door and am now working on a door to the bedroom. The next thing is the interior of the basement. When there are some bigger changes I'll post new pics. I just noticed that this is the first MOC I'm working on longer than 3 days It is a lot of fun. DaleDVM Posted February 22, 2011 I just made it to your post and I love the way it is coming along. It is a fantastic first effort. It definately has an elfy feeling to it. I love the balcony out back and all of the foliage. When I build a roof to sit loosly on slopes or even the cones you started with I try to make it 2 studs wider than you did. That way it has a slight overhang in the front and the back. The overhang is not only realistic but will hide any gaps between the wall and the roof and has a very nice aesthetic appeal. If you have the available round browns to do it give it a try and see what you think. Thank you for sharing your work with us!
Plissken Posted February 23, 2011 Thanks to all you guys for the feedback. Very appreciated. I will change the roof a bit to make it wider, I already made it longer so that there is a overhang at the sides of the house. A few other changes can be seen now. Enjoy. The door at the top floor. It is still a stand-in. I'm not happy how it turned out so I will look for some other technics. Hunters Hut WIP 013 by plisskeneb, on Flickr Hunters Hut WIP 014 by plisskeneb, on Flickr The front door. This one is great (I think ) It opens really well and looks good. I will add a doorknob soon. Plissken Posted April 16, 2011 Thank you all for the comments. A few days ago I finished this MOC. I was a little bit forced to because I needed a good amount of bricks for a new project. So here it is. Enjoy. Overall Look. The front door has a knob, finally. Finished 01 by plisskeneb, on Flickr Interior. Not much has changed. Finished 03 by plisskeneb, on Flickr Back of the house. I had a few design problems with the door at the upper level, so I decided to close the room with some elven magic Finished 02 by plisskeneb, on Flickr The interior on the upper level didn't change. I hope it's nice enough for your viewing pleasure.
Blackknight112 Posted April 17, 2011 nice work, I really like the roof of the house, and the shield on it. keep up your good work.
Captain Becker Posted April 17, 2011 Elven magic eh? Mmmm... No, i still would put a curtain over there, but thats only the small nitpick. You did a great job over here. The house itself looks already great, and the garden is also very detailed. And what about that cute poor little animal over there? And the inside of the house is also very detailed. You did excellent job here. Captain Becker
