Changing the color of a model in LDD 4.3.6?

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I was getting familiar with LDD and was just wondering if there was any method that would allow me to change the color of a model in LDD. Is there any shortcut to doing so? Or do I have to tediously click each single piece that I want to change the color?

Thanks.

I know you can scroll over (highlight?) over the bricks then change the color they all change that color.

Thanks for helping out a newbie, but I'm probably doing something wrong. When I highlight the bricks I want to change the color to, then click the paint button to change the color, the program deselects everything I've chosen. Perhaps I have a faulty install?

Did you build your model in Extended mode, or normal mode? If you didn't click the black tab in LDD before starting to build, you built it in normal mode. You may need to start a new blank "Extended mode" model, and then import your model. Once you do that, you should be able to change the colors of parts to whatever you'd like.

In Extended mode, select all the bricks you want to change the color, and create a new group with those bricks. Then, select the group, and "paint" it the color you want. I will add pictures soon.

EDIT : Oh, seems your problem is already solved.

It is also possible to change the brick palette at any time during building, by going to the menu and choosing "View > New Themes", then choosing from "LDD", "LEGO Mindstorms", or "LDD Extended". This choice will be saved along with the file, so even something that has been saved in one mode, may be overwritten in another.

Extended mode is much more flexible for replacing colours, with it's facility to do so simply by using the colour select tool, then choosing a new colour while those parts are selected. Leewan's advice is solid gold, though, especially if you are in the mood to experiment with liveries.

That's a bit too complicated, Leewan. =) Better use "Select by color" tool. That way you can avoid recoloring of the whole model.

Also, when you select all bricks and click "paint", this will automatically paint them in the color selected in the palette (red is chosen by default). That's why it seemed as if bucket tool deselected the whole model. It has simply painted red bricks in red. :D

Yeah, that works too. But with my solution, you also avoid to recolor the whole model. ^^ And yours works only if the parts you want to repaint are all the same color.

I have a little example :

(Yes, this is ugly in dark blue, that was a bad idea  )
