[MOC] OT Tie Fighter (combines 9492 & 75082)

Recommended Posts

The wings on the 9492 Tie Fighter were always excellent, but the cockpit let it down badly. The cockpit on the 75082 Tie Advanced was a big improvement, the canopy pieces were quality, but the wings sucked big time. So, I kinda combined the 2 designs and hopefully improved them by adding my own tweaks. Here you go. I willl post some images later on today (unfortunately I set my uploads off as I set off to work today and some of them failed).:

The first version looks very good. I like it.

2 minor suggestions :

- on the "arms", use slopes 4x1 Light Bluish Gray instead of slope 3x1. Slope 4x1 LBG is available since the Speed Champion Mercedes set is released.

- you may shorten each arm by 2 studs (not on the wedge side, but on the side where you used tile 1x3, brackets etc)

This looks really good! I agree with Anio that the arms need to be a bit shorter. Do you have a picture of the back of the TIE?

I would dare to say that this TIE looks actually better than the UCS version, but it is a little wide but that shouldn't be too much of an issue, great job! but I have to admit that I am not very fond to the "bat-TIE" (I just don't like theme crossovers).

That's a huge improvement over 9492. I have wanted to do something similar myself but never figured out how to do it since getting that round shape is incredibly hard with the available pieces. I would also like to see the back.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions!

I will post some more pics (including the back of the tie) after I get home today. Some of my uploads failed this morning so I just posted what I had.

I can reduce the width immediately by 2 plates simply by removing the pair of 3x6 wedge plates at the end of each pylon. And yeah there's an extra 2 studs to remove from the pylons themselves without compromising the attachment or cockpit design. I must admit though, I actually made it this wide as I kinda like it - I think I've been watching too much Star Wars Rebels where the Tie proportions are shorter and wider.

The Batman Tie was a bit of fun - my 5 year old is Batman mad and this seemed like a cool thing at the time. It's now converted to a First Order Standard Tie Fighter (black with light grey wings). I'm struggling with the canopy pieces though as the colours from the Tie Advanced just don't work too well against the black ship. Hopefully I'll be able to get the Special Forces Tie canopy pieces from Bricklink soon.

Very nice! I love the Batman version.

How stable are the arms without the usual connector(30373.gif)?

The pylons attach to the wings using 16 studs each side. The wings are very steady when swooshing - they don't move or rattle about like the 9492. They don't however survive impacts that well - if you drop the Tie the wings will come off.

This handle on the dish is convenient for some applications.

But still, it make the part with a 7L dimension (odd length, in other words). And that is a pain to deal with studful...

I like your solution to the back.

I don't know how it'd look with how you did it, but I've built a TIE Interceptor (well, I'm still waiting on a few more parts) but I used the 3 long modified facet for the back which made a smoother transition.

Very, very, nice. Have you thought about building a set of Interceptor wings for it so you could swap around?

I've got a design sitting in LDD but haven't got all the parts - I'll do it as my next MOC. I do however, have another TIE built up for escort duties with my Shuttle.

Laser canon's defo need adding.

Looking forward to seeing what you've done :)

Here's my TIE Interceptor design, yet to be bricklinked. The cockpit canopy/hatch pieces are missing from the LDD database so they are not on this render, but you get the general idea.

Thanks for looking

Cheers

Very nice representation of the TIE. World better than lego's model from '12. The only thing I would say to add are the cannons up front. If you are going for accuracy than I can understand why they aren't there as at this scale I doubt there is a way to work it in the model with pieces. However, I like how lego used the new missile pieces to make them on the Force awakens tie. The set they made was a special forces fie fighter but I guess there are regular first order ties as well. You should try that model. I think the only thing you'd have to do is reverse the colors. Black body/ structure and grey wing panels.

Would you happen to have the LDD file for this Tie? I've been looking for some Imperial MOC's to add to my Rebel sets and this cock pit is awesome!

This is a fantastic version. I think I just may go with this one to complement my Vader's Tie Advanced. Thanks for the LDD!
