HMS Beagle @ lego ideas

Recommended Posts

I am rarely on Ideas. It's great to see a MOC like this get all of the needed votes. It's a good looking vessel. I would buy the set.

That was the project that finally made me give in and get an Ideas login pir_laugh2.gif

The consensus from "Ideas observers" seems to be that it's dead on arrival--I guess because of the piece count (??)

Obviously the brick-built sails would have to go, but that would bring it down to like 1300 pieces I think. It seems like with just a bit more compression Lego could make it workable. Hope so anyway...

I would buy this in a heartbeat. It's a good solid set with a beautiful colorscheme, and lots of useful pieces for MOCing. I'm only vaguely familiar with it, but I thought (correctly, it seems) I remembered it as the vessel Darwin sailed on, so it could be a good historic set. As noted above, dropping the brickbuilt sails would drastically lower the piece count. But I fear this type of set stands no chance, unless the powers that be realize their grave error in not giving us a vessel for the latest Soldiers and do produce something like this. I just have a hard time imagining prefab ship hulls ever making their way into an Ideas set for some reason.

I recall it being talked about in the Ideas thread over in the Embassy forum. I think it is DOA too. It's too many pieces to fit in the production space that LEGO allocates for Ideas set production. I am not really crazy about the brick sails either, too much like Sea Cow. :classic:

That's a fine vessel! I really have to start an account on this Ideas website sometime to be able to vote for projects like this. pirate_classic.gif

I would like to see it released, she's a real beauty. Although if I were to be picky, most other models of HMS Beagle I've seen online have a brown hull below that black part. Wonder why this wasn't used here. Anyway, glad it got over 10000 votes!

Well, I can imagine an Ideas set using prefab hull rather than a brick-built hull which would make the piece count skyrocket and impossible to turn into an actual set.

Sure, sure, any ship would obviously use prefabs. I'm just saying that I can't hardly envision a sailing ship being produced as an Ideas set. Maybe I'm being pessimistic, but this last round of Pirates seemed like a turn for the worst for the theme (short lived, few sets) and I question how much demand exists for something like this. But I could be wrong, and I hope I am. This would definitely make a good Ideas set, and it has educational value. What's not to like?

All the more reason we need a decent sailing vessel this time. pirate_classic.gif HMS Beagle would certainly qualify, while the Brick Bounty was a letdown to some of us (I'm not saying everyone).

100% agreed pirate_laugh2.gif

Whats the largest cuusoo set they ever approved?

They seem to have a penchant for mid-sized sets, probably cos they're cheaper to mass produce and lower risk.
