Pre-revamp: Skull Grinder (MOC)

SKULL GRINDER

This here is a pre-emptive revamp of Skull Grinder, which I used to experiment with some more unique structural building, as well as more slender building. I've had this built for a while, but have only recently got him photographed. Enjoy!

And here's his skeleton. Note the upper body structure - I'm very proud of how that turned out :)

Looks great! I like the slender torso build, gives the impression that he is both agile and muscular at the same time, which I like. Nice to see you reverse-engineered Skull Grinder's gearbox and used it on your pre-revamp Skull Grinder. The lower legs, while a nice design, are perhaps a tad too long compared to the upper legs and the rest of the model, and not really a big fan of the half-claw horns, I personally prefer horns pointing forward myself (but that's just me of course).

I would be interested to see this with Skull Grinder's mask instead of a Skull Spider mask when the relevant set does come out, I think it would really complete it. Good stuff!

Is it possible we could have some better / close-up shots of the torso build? I'm interested to see how it's all put together.

EDIT: Fixed typo.

Thanks for the critiques! Here's something from when he was just a little WIP - hope this helps!

Very nice. I don't have much to say on how this can be better, but I notice you haven't given old grinder here his tri-axe thing. Any chance of seeing it?

I debated doing so, but I wasn't sure how to pull it off with current parts. Maybe I'll have another go...

This looks very cool. I'll probalby revamp my Grinder to make him look similar to this when I'll finally get him. Good job!

Great MOC, I especially like the creativity of the torso. That's a think I really like with your MOCs in general, LewiMOC, it's your ability to blend CCBS and Technic in a creative but not overly complex way.

I agree with TheOneVeyronian, the legs are a bit long, but besides that, you managed to make him very menacing and threatening. The head, with the horns and the "crotch armor", gives him an ancient Egyptian style, which I like.

Thanks Leewan! Gearboxes and the like have really got me inspired. While my builds can be repetitive, I still very much enjoying putting them together. I'd say that I'm the kind of builder who likes to imagine their models on store shelves, so nothing is too over the top or illegal.

You're not the first to mention the legs, but it's a fair criticism. My concern was that having stubbier legs would've made the torso look rather un-proportional, so I went with this design. While I personally love his gangly-old legs, due to the fact that he can literally step over smaller enemies, I respect that others aren't keen.

Oh man, I love that ribcage effect! Super clever, and something I could see an official set doing down the line. This whole MOC is awesome.

Thanks! This is an overhauled version of the ribcage design I used on this dude.

Wouldn't that be a... pre-vamp?
