Hello fellow Technic friends.

I would like to show you my newest creation.

It all started when I received the Lego speed champions set 75899. I have not had much exposure to the system way of building since I was playing with Lego in the late 80's, and was pleasantly surprised to find it a fun experience. Having stuck to Technic since my return from the Dark age, I am much more interested in the mechanics of Lego sets. With that in mind I wanted to mix the two together. This is my first attempt at what I suppose would be a model team approach to building.

I don't know why I like monster trucks so much.... But they have always held a fascination for me. My model has the main Technic functions you would expect from a car,

  • Working 4 wheel steering via HOG.
  • Suspension on all wheels.

My main goal was the body work. It is not modeled on any 'real life car' but I wanted to create a nice clean shape. I am pretty happy with the way it turned out and the chassis is a good base for other body 'modding' My next project is to see if I can fit a detailed interior. But fiddly detail is not my strong point!

The Technic part of the model is nice and compact with a width of 9 studs (not including the wheels) and a length of 19 studs. There is a lot of half stud offset work that enabled the build to incorporate these steering parts,

And I'm pretty happy with the way the suspension and steering worked out, it took me a long time to get it as small as I wanted. If anyone is interested I can upload the LDD file.

Thanks for looking. As always, comments and constructive criticism welcome.

Here's some pictures...

Highly compact builds are very difficult to pull-off, this is very nice. I really like the stance of the final design, and the body work.

Nice child of Model Team and Technic lines, created with taste and skill. Well done, I love it. If you'd manage to hide this huge gear inside the cockpit, the thing would be near-perfect.

EDIT: And yes, please do upload the LDD file :)

Thanks! I really enjoy making small things. I find it a nice challenge.

Hello All. Thanks for the positives response.

I made an interior last night. Now the big grey cog inside is not such an eyesore! The seat is way too high, but I can't get it any lower.

And here is the updated LDD. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/oliveralder/Mini-Monster-1/min_monster_final.lxf

Now it's perfect. I love the '60s Camaro vibe.

EDIT: Checked the file, you used wrong parts - the Technic Axle Pin should be with friction if in blue. Also, the shift gear, 5L axle and steering wheel are in wrong colours. I think the shock absorbers are wrong, too. Sorry for carping.

Thanks. I shall update the LDD for you sir

I also couldn't get the 3L axle into the C.V and U-joint.

EDIT. Fixed most of the issues in LDD. there is no grey soft shocks in LDD and I couldn't align the 3L axles for the steering. :classic:

This is a very nice MOC!

I would like to see a body that's a bit wider and maybe a stud lower, so it will cover the lift arms with spring attachment points a bit. Not sure whether it would indeed look better, but I think it's worth a try.

Great work though

This is fantastic. I used to love monster trucks too and really like the proportions you've got here. Reminds me a lot of a few monster truck RC cars I have.

I'm blown away by the ingenious 4 wheel steering design. Great job!
