CONTEST: Build your own Impulse set!

Recommended Posts

It's time for another quick contest! Build an impulse set for any theme (including old ones), using a maximum of 27 pieces excluding minifig. One animal may be included as one of your parts. As an extra challenge, try to include a new part to make it look more authentic! Here's my entry...

wg.jpg

It's called "Walrus Gardening" and it has 13 pieces. Since I used the large wheelbarrow, and I suspect Fabuland figures would cost more to make, I didn't use the maximum number, but there is no need to limit youself like this if you don't want to though. ;-) Excluding the minifig, the sets seem to have from 12 to 27 pieces, hence the chosen limit.

Rules of this contest are:

  1. Try to build something similar to the real impulse sets; that is don't include parts like a baseplate as it would make the set too expensive and the box too big. There must one and only one figure in the set. Any Lego man is allowed.... including Technic. ;-)
  2. Excluding the figure, 27 parts are allowed. To make this clear, a minifig consists of a single part for the legs, a torso with arms, a head and optional headgear. Scarfs, accessories, epaulette, backpacks, technic man helmets... are extra parts.
  3. One and only one animal may be included as one of your parts. (Monkeys are one part.)
  4. You can do any theme, including old ones and customs.
  5. Only three pictures are allowed per entry. No composite images.
  6. Digital entries are allowed.
  7. Entries must be in by March 21st. Your entry can be altered as many times as you like up until that time. Entries are posted here.
  8. Only one entry per person per section. See below.
  9. Entry is open to all members.
EDIT: Please note that I have tweaked the rules...

Prize:

Err.... my love?

EDIT: For those that don't think my love cuts it...

I love this contest - it

I see people make it look like the box all the time. Where do you do that? I'm assuming it's a program of some sort?

Also, cute contest! I might try my hand and see how it goes. I'm starting to like MOCing like this. Gets my creative juices flowing!

Well i just turned to the LEGO webshop. I opened a new MSPaint window. I copied a LEGO logo, a CITY logo and a Chocking Warning plate into that MSPaint window. Then i opened my photograph of my set and placed the logo's, and some text, on the photograph and i was done.

Ah, I see. But what about the one that Nyundi did? That one looks like a bit more than an MS Paint job.

Photoshop actually.

I used old M-Tron sets as reference and whipped up the background using a bunch of filters and gradients (and of course yanked the logo from some instruction scans).

The most annoying part is trimming out the background of whatever I took the picture of the moc on and dropping it onto the photoshopped background :-/

For that kind of edit, you have to make the photograph on green, white, w/e paper and with a PhotoShop you can make all green, white, w.e. colours into the background picture.

you can also use the lasso tool which selects what ever you wrap it around, and the background color doesn't matter...

But that's a bit more tedious and may not produce as good of a result. X-D
