BIONICLE Generation 1 Discussion

Recommended Posts

Since there seems to be a demand for it, why not? Talk about aspects of the old BIONICLE story here!

And a handy link to BIONICLEsector01, the most accurate BIONICLE wiki around, for your reference convenience.

(Totally not a shameless plug)

I am going to say outright that I wish we had gotten more Toa of different elements in set form. So many cropped up in the story, but having more elements floating around could have been a nice opportunity for kids to create powers and abilities, and perhaps critically think: 'In what ways could this element be weaponized?'. My hope for G2 is that the six Toa we know now remain the solitary Toa of their element and new Toa are introduced like, say, 'Lhikan: Master of Technology' and 'Nidhiki: Master of Lightning'.

Gen 1 would have made a great online open world RPG. I've been thinking of how killer they could have made it. People could have maybe created 3 characters:

A Toa protagonist with The Order of Mata Nui.

A Makuta antagonist with the Brotherhood.

And then a Dark Hunter would have been cool.

Choose gender, collect armor and weapons. :P Would have been awesome. Receive missions from each faction's leader, etc. Oh well, isn't there suppose to be a 2015 game according to the leaks that predicted Okoto? Will probably be just another game with childish humor. *sigh*

Whoever said that things on the internet last forever clearly was not referring to old box shots of LEGO sets. Oy.

I got into bionicles way too late... I think my first one was Deflak that underwater matoran.. I'm pretty sure thats when they dropped their gimmicks... like the line before it had those light up weapons... I strangley feel like thewhole giant robot ending was shoehorned in to give some closure...

He still had a launcher, but yeah, the year before is when there stopped being action features.

The giant robot twist was actually planned from the beginning! Certain aspects were altered or switched, but the twist was part of the central conceit of BIONICLE when it was first conceptualized. Hence why there were a lot of subtle hints toward it.

I was spending some time to dig out as many masks as I could find from my boxes...

I seem to be missing a lot but also have some from sets I don't think I owned.[brickfair maybe?]

These are my favorites

Because it probably wasn't Lhikan's Hau when they wrote that scene.

Question: why did Jaller get revived instead of Lhikan in Mask of Light? I mean, it was Lhikan's Hau...

Because Jaller had been wearing it for nearly 1000 years, so the mask had his imprint and Lhikan's had already faded away.

Lhikan wouldn't have come back- he had been on the Red Star for a thousand years with a new Noble Hau. Jaller should have been sent there as well, but the story team hadn't created the Red Star yet. It could be due to the fact that he was destined to be revived.

An unfortunate example of pseudo-retconning; in essence, both answers are correct. Lhikan's life force would have had faded anyway, but he was also revived on the Red Star.

Greg, when writing about the Red Star's revival function, actually at one point implied that Jaller's resurrection was related, but never followed up on it, so it stayed the same canonically.

Has anyone asked Greg how he planned to wrap up the Red Star arc?

I'm sure someone has and got the traditional "didn't plan that far" response. The most insight we've gotten into the post-finale serials was when Greg recently revealed that Takanuva's destiny theoretically had something to do with what would be a GB civil war (which actually sounds like an amazing concept, but anyway). Everything else (Marendar, etc.) was just bits and pieces that were left stranded.

The fact that we later found out Velika and the Red Star is amazing enough, honestly =P.

That is just too awesome... and now it'll never happen :cry_sad:

I think Greg was leading into that civil war with all the new arcs- Velika vs. Angonce! :excited:

The character is Matoro (which led many fans to think he would come back in 2009, despite his death in 2007), but he actually represents Mata Nui, who was sent to Bara Magna in the Kanohi Ignika by Teridax. My guess is that they did not wanted to show Mata Nui's final design, so they used a picture of Matoro instead.

Ugh, back page comic previews were so awesome. I remember the last winter 2007 comic back page and I tried to guess what color each Mahri was, through Hahli was easy because her blue was very prominent in the picture. I was psyched when I found out in summer they were the Inika again. XD
