Heroica RPG - Quest #110: Color Me Gone

Recommended Posts

Four heroes, one with a great deal of experience, and three who had just been given their first quest for Heroica make their way through the docks, looking for a man in a bright, colorful robe over a drab shirt and trousers. In the distance, they see the man they are looking for.

Hearing the approaching footsteps, the man turns around, a look of relief coming to his face.

"Oh thank goodness, you four are here," the man says. "You have no idea how much we need heroes right now. Oh, I completely forgot. I am William Morris, a tailor down in the town of Tridentia. We're actually a trading colony far to the south of Azzurat, right near the Pearl Sea."

Tailor William Morris pulls out a map and shows it to the Heroes. His smile widens as he looks where his town is.

Vindsval steps up to the strangely dressed man and nods his head. He speaks in a low slow voice that you feel as much as here. If you were to use a book cliche you would describe it as the sounds of large boulders rolling against one another. Not unpleasant, but well beyond the range of normal human speech.

We are well met. I am called Vindsvall The Half Born. I have spoken with Carvenhall Lokikin, but these other and yourself are strangers to me. Perhaps, we should begin with introductions?

Benji arrives the docks, recognizing the half-giant he is able to quickly make his way to the location. With large strides he offers his hand to William. "Hallo sir, I'm Benji Carvenhall, Beast Warrior, Dragonslayer, and Champion of the Northern Kingdoms. I'd be honored to be the leader of this here expidition. I would be ready to go as soon as the others arrive... how long will the journey be, might I dare ask?"

OoC: You can get a small icon for Vindsval from his signature.

Also, Benji just went to the marketplace - I purchased one more mead, smelling salts, and phoenix essence, and upgraded Meduiak to WP:20 (that means that my power is at 63 now), and Pongcanis to WP:17 :sweet:

Miderun managed to find her way back to the docks with little issue, having arrived there not a few weeks ago. She nods to Morris, her arms crossed.

"Miderun. Orc. I understand you're having some sort of trouble with the berries for your dye? Any idea what's causing the problem? And how are we getting all the way down to Tridentia? Have you hired a ship already?"

Tailor William Morris CU.jpg

William shakes Benji's hand, his eyes drifting to the unfamiliar headwear.

"Do you mean the journey itself or how long it will take to find the root of the problem? If you mean how long it takes to Tridentia, only a week or two. As for how long it takes to find out the cause of the problem, I have no idea. This had been plaguing us for near two months before my fellow townsmen voted to send me to the Hall to find Heroes."

"Miderun. Orc. I understand you're having some sort of trouble with the berries for your dye? Any idea what's causing the problem? And how are we getting all the way down to Tridentia? Have you hired a ship already?"

"You are correct, Miderun. Tridentia is known for exporting some of the finest linens throughout the south. The island we live on has a variety of berries of multiple colors. Maybe you have seen some of our work. We can only guess that the problem is magical, as this disease, if you want to call it that, has started spreading not to just our berries, but the rest of the town and surrounding area. Everything is starting to lose its color. And if this continues, all of us Tridentians will lose our money, our businesses will go under and our families will starve. I have reserved space on a trading ship back. This ship had brought some of the last good linens we made, everything else is not of the best quality and up to Tridentia standards."

"Probably not. Baltarok is all brown and black and green. I can't imagine why some mage would want to ruin your village, and if so, why they're doing it in such an unspectacular manner. It would be easier to just burn it to the ground. There must be something more going on here."

Miderun took a quick look around.

"So I take it we're just waiting for that one weird guy."

Vindsval nods his head to Miderun and returns his attention to William.

As it is clear none of us our mages, can we assume you believe your blight to have a physical cause as much as a magical one?

Bobby walks up to the group a little late, a grin spread across his face.

IMG_2143_zpsb53ff806.jpg

"What is up?!" he exclaims. "You guys ready for our first quest? It's gonna be dope." He turns to their guide. "Hey dog, I'm named Bobby Bucks." He gives two thumbs up. "I'll help out your town, don't even worry about it, my dude! I ain't even playing." He looks at his fellow heroes. "What's up?"

Ahh you would be the little man from under the table. That which is up is the sky. Are you by chance an under dweller. Is that why You so frequently ask about it?

Benji looks at the pointy haired kid. Snarling, he growls, "Shouldn't you be under a table somewhere, kid? I hope you know to fight, Nadorhuan, cause you sure don't look it."

Benji turns around and puts on a less intimidating pose. With an attempt at niceness he turns to William, "Let's get going."

A tiny shiver runs through Bobby's body as the man next to him roars, but he feels he should respond to the green fellow first.

IMG_2143_zpsb53ff806.jpg

"Naw dog I'm from up here same as you. It's just a thing to say, you know what I'm saying? Like, what's happening with you right now? What are you feeling? How is your inside world, you dig?"

Bobby turns to the yellow guy.

"My dude, no worries. I'll learn how to fight. That's what I'm here for, dude! We all got to start somewhere. Look, I got this dagger, and I'm not afraid to use it!" He holds up his dingy dagger.

Carvenhall, perhaps you have spent more time with this small one's kind than I. I admit that I know nothing of his tribe. He hefts his hammer He calls me a dog and then commands me to dig. Yet seems to want to know if I am well. Do I smash him or not?

"If I be the leader of this party, you have no need to pay mind to his senseless jabbering. I'm really not sure if he's the same species as me or not."

Benji looks at his party, and how inexperienced they were. Looking through his bag, he pulled out 6 phoenix essences, and gave two to each member. "Use these if you need them, and return any leftovers to me, hmmkay?"

My thanks. He places the offered potions in a pouch on his harness, and turns back to Bobby. I was raised to respect the power in all Things, in Men, in Gods, in Belief, and in the power of words. Your speech is strange to me, do you wish to offend or befriend be plain in this small one.

"Yo I'll be anyone's pal as long as they aren't a total dick, you know what I'm saying? I guess I respect everything too, that's a pretty dope way to put it, my man! I'm gonna say that now 'I respect all things' just like that." Bobby offers his hand. "Sorry man I totally forgot my manners I'm Bobby by the way, what's your name?"

In addition, Benji hands out his brown dragon girdle to Bobby, tricorne to the half-giant, and Puglist Gloves to Miderun. After looking them over, he gives a satisfied grunt. "With this equipment you all don't seem like such a sorry crew. We'll see if I can't make heroes out of you all! Ha! And they laughed at Benji Carvenhall!" Benji spits into the water and looks scornful as usual. He quickly added in a fast breath: "And don't forget to return this stuff at the end of the quest!"

You are still a strange creature "Bobby," but I will accept your hand. Vindsval shakes Bobby's entire forearm. I am Vindsvall, called the Half Born.

What is the "Tricorne" Carvenhall?

Miderun pulled the gloves on, stretching her fingers underneath them and ensuring it didn't hinder her ability to use Serstyral.

"These will do."

A small, pristine white ship pulls into the docks. Sailors begin to tie down ropes and put up the gangway. Everyone is moving quickly; their feet like a small thunderstorm.

Tailor William Morris CU.jpg

Tailor William Morris watched in bewilderment at the heroes talk amongst themselves, exchange goods, though the one with the hair seemed a little off putting.

As the ship came to dock, the tailor's eyes lit up at the memory of home, but withered quickly.

He looked back to the party and announced, "This is the ship that will take us to Tridentia. Are you ready to depart?"

OoC: Sorry but before we depart I want to make sure that the inventories are correct, could you post the updated hero stats for the party?

Benji looks at the half giant friendly. "It may be a tad small for you, but the tricorne should help protect you if we get into a fight. And we will, I promise you - this is Heroica, after all!"

Speaking of which, as a rogue, Bobby should only have 7 health.

Miderun glanced between her questmates after they all introduced themselves and chatted among one another, then turned and nodded to the tailor.

"I'm ready to leave."

Vindsval looks at the tiny ship and sighs with more than a little bit of resignation.

I believe we will need a bigger boat.

But yes Let us Depart. I do not suppose a voyage beneath the stars will cause me too much harm.
