Petition for DC Comics Collectible Minifigure series

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I started an online petition to get Lego to make a Collectible Minifigure series based on DC Comics Superheroes (mainly the designes from Lego Batman 3). I'm looking to get 10,000 signatures (the same number as it takes for an Idea to get to the Review Phase). So if you are interested in supporting this please go to the link below, sign the petition and share it with your friends, Collector Groups and anyone else you think will be interested. Thanks.

Besides Doctor Fate, Firestorm, Raven, Starfire, Beast Boy, Deathstroke, Arsenal, Killer Frost, Detective Chimp, Condiment King, Firefly, Malcolm Merlyn, Plastique, Deadshot, Giganta, Star Sapphire, Bronze Tiger, Cheetah, Red Hood, Music Meister, Mad Hatter and Booster Gold, who are some other Heroes or Villains you would like to see from DC in Lego form?

A petition isn't going to do anything. The people at LEGO know what they're doing, they're not going to change their minds because of 10,000 signatures.

Indeed. Furthermore, isn't this what LEGO Ideas is for?

Oh my gosh.... I hope there won't be more invasions to the CMF theme... besides The Simpsons and The LEGO Movie

You may be right but 10,000 votes (or signatures) did get them to concider making the DeLorean from Back to the Future and Ecto 1 from Ghostbusters. Besides a petition at least shows The Lego Group and DC Comics/Warner Brothers that fans are willing to do something to show their support for this theme besides sit around on forums and wishlist.

But that was through LEGO Ideas (or CUUSOO, back in the day). If you want them to listen, you ought to use that. Otherwise, I can't see this going anywhere...

Keep in mind that this is not guaranteed, even if you get to 10,000, they may not accept it. But it is worth trying.

I think a petition is really the wrong way to go about obtaining a Superhero CMF line. A petition sounds very demanding and aggressive and due to that I doubt LEGO would bother even considering it.

The better way to go about this would be as a concept on LEGO ideas.

Personally I'm not sure I even want a CMF superhero line. Each year is expensive enough as it is, plus I hate the cheap plastic and cheap printing the CMFs have.

Thank you for your input and ideas.

Looking over the Lego Ideas site and reading their rules for submitting project Ideas I did read this:

"LEGO Ideas accepts projects that propose single, stand-alone LEGO products (sets). We can’t accept projects that propose a series of products or a playtheme."

I'm pretty sure they would see a DC Superhero CMF series and multiple products. Not to mention that the character designs are not mine originally but taken from the Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham game.

So the petition is still online and while it may not work, like I said before, it's better in my opinion than doing nothing. I'm still open to any other constructive ideas or ideas on how to promote this to an even bigger audience.

I'm sure LEGO would class each CMF line as a single product, since you can really only buy one thing. The product itself is a single blind bag and not what is contained in the bag. When you buy a CMF you have no idea, the bag is sealed and inside is a random toy. It's very similar to bag of M&Ms. The company that makes them don't consider Red M&Ms a different product than green M&Ms they consider the sealed bag as the product.

Plus a lot of the Video game designs aren't physically usable. Most of those designs are created with no fixed budget per Minifigure, as a result a lot of those figures have printing that is extremely expensive. Also a lot of them have printing in areas that LEGO rarely prints on due to how difficult it is to print on certain parts. Those figures were designed purely for virtual use an as such won't work in the real world. Another example might be that some of the colours don't work well with some of the printed colours. The figures in the game also weren't designed by LEGO but by TT games, so each character would have to be redesigned by LEGO themselves.

I agree, Lego has their reasons for not doing it so demanding it isn't the best idea, Lego is giving us a range of characters next year and all those characters are in sets with iconic Characters like Batman and Superman as they are the most known to children(the majority of the market) not all children know all the characters so they might not be so interested in this, and that is one of the stand points Lego is looking from, I believe.

That's true, but I assume that those difficulties could be fixed one way or another. Lego has some real geni working for them. Besides even if we didn't get an exact replica of the fig from the game, are you saying that its not worth it?

I'm not really sure what you mean by this...

Another example might be that some of the colours don't work well with some of the printed colours.

They can print new colors.

The figures in the game also weren't designed by LEGO but by TT games, so each character would have to be redesigned by LEGO themselves.

Seeing as they had such an expansive partnership over the years, I'm TT Games would be more than happy to give Lego the designs for those characters. Also, TT Games only designed those characters with oversight from both Lego and DC/Warner Brothers, so I assume that there wouldn't really be much to change.

I don't want to demoralize you. But I would like to say that having the DC comics collectible minifigure series

will seriously hurt the DC sets' sales since many people get those sets simply for the minifigures and not the poorly designed vehicles which sometimes appear in those sets. From the business point of view, LEGO can't satisfy your request. Money is money.

If I were you, I would start the petition to get LEGO to put the Bat-Pod on sale for the public instead of making it the prize of a lucky draw. Such a petition will be more realistic though the chances are still slim.
