OPPORTUNITY: [NORTH AMERICA] LBR PAB Case Sale Event

Recommended Posts

[PLEASE NOTE THIS APPLIES TO NORTH AMERICA ONLY]

Hello and Good Morning LUG Ambassadors / Work Group Leaders,

I hope this message finds you each well! As we’ve witnessed both here on the LAN as well as in our daily engagement with the AFOL community, there’s been some discussion recently regarding a new direction / initiative for the Pick-A-Brick (PAB) wall at LEGO Brand Retail (LBR) Stores in North America. This new direction has involved the re-naming of the wall itself, now referred to as “Pick & Build”, as well as adding a feature in which specific small models can now be assembled using designated LEGO elements from the wall, referred to as “Pick a Model.”

One change in policy that has taken effect in conjunction with this new direction is the discontinuation of purchasing LEGO elements by the case. For those unfamiliar, some LBR stores offered the ability to purchase the cases of LEGO elements utilized to stock the back wall upon request. As we move in this new direction there is still an excess of PAB cases in certain locations. We’ve partnered with the LBR Operations & Merchandising teams to open the opportunity to offer a final sale on any excess PAB cases to the AFOL community. Requirements for participation in this opportunity will mimic what is in place for the quarterly LBR AFOL Discount Day. The following LEGO Stores will be offering a special sale on their excess PAB cases at the designated date & time listed:

I guess I would wonder how many bricks are in each case roughly. Is buying by the case in this fashion worth it or economical?

aww no love for Michigan that stinks, well good luck to others hoping for a nice haul of bricks and the value looks to be over all better than the cups tend to be.

Those may be the more successful PAB stores if they don't have excess pieces to sell off.

Oops, missed that. Still, over 400 miles from here! Oh well...

Not sure I'll have much use for bulk parts unless they have a large quantity of Medium Lavender... but I suppose it can't hurt to check.

I was able to pick up a case of 1 x 4 Tile (2431) in Reddish Brown (for train ties) yesterday. The case is 9.5in x 7.5in x 6in and weighs 5.005 LBs (including the cardboard). Using BL it says the part weight .58g so I estimate over 3,000 tiles in the case, that comes out to about 2 1/2 cents per tile.

The larger pieces have less in the case but I am going to guess they are about the same weight. I forgot to weigh the case of 2 x 4 Brick when I bought one last year.

By the case was better for some pieces before LEGO raised the price per case last year. Any way, it is kind of moot now as we can no longer buy by the case now in North America. The best value option would be to take the time to carefully pack the cup.

I recall when it came to 2x4s, expertly packing the cups had an edge over buying the box. After prices went up, I think the cups became even more economical. But that assumes you have hours of time to stand there expertly packing cups. For $80 I would gladly buy the box.

The question I have is (and I'm surprised we haven't seen this yet), what they have at my store - the Sugarloaf Mills location in GA. They're probably the worst kept-up lists on brickbuildr (2.5 years old) and wallofbricks (much more recent... within six months or so, but only showing 5 parts). If I were a store manager, I'd make sure those sites were up to date.

More stores have been added as several from NJ area as I've been told by the store managers will also be doing it. So call your local Lego store and find out if they will be in on it.

A couple of extra MA stores were added subsequently.

I picked up a case of 1x2 Dark Red [approx 2,700] from Burlington MA, and case of Roof Slope 45 Black [approx 1,400] from Peabody MA. A good deal at $60/ach.

Is this a firm direction change? Can you still buy cases?

This seems to be a special one time only offer. Who knows if it is a planned annual event.

I think when he asked about a "direction change" he was referring to:
