Making Letters and Shop Signs

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Just getting into MOC modulars, and have got the basic structure of the first 3 floors of a coffee shop/ bookshop, slightly inspired by a place I found in Bern. That one was inside a small covered area which used to be a backstreet. My MOC is a main road affair, and I'm looking to make a sign at the front somehow, with a model of a coffee cup, (Quite easy i think, and then the words "& a Book" next to it. I'm quite restricted on pieces.

Does anyone have any ideas how to create letters. I've tried to use the same technique as that used in Al's barber shop, but the letters are often spaced too far apart. Any ideas or places to point me?

I will get round to posting a thread for my MOCs on here at some points.

The other Modulars are a good place to look, as a few others have signage. The "HOTEL" sign in 10182 Cafe Corner is a good starting point. It's a straight forward build. 10211 Grand Emporium has a neat "SHOP" sign too. A capital B will be tricky, I think, as it could read as an 8 very easily. Perhaps making the lower curved part go a stud further out will avoid that.

"The Unofficial LEGO Advanced Building Techniques Guide" may be helpful here, like on many other subjects (Chapter 3): http://www.brickshel...advbuilding.pdf

However it would be nice to have a special thread on this subject to collect some good examples. I'm no specialist in lettering, but anyway:

Btw. there's a nice Flickr group on this subject which I didn't know before. It has lots of great stuff: https://www.flickr.c...s/legoalphabet/

Thanks for the link ER0L. has some good ideas for SNOT work, that i'm trying to get into, to make the facades of my buildings more interesting. Still working on the letters.

Cheers
