Having issues with the LDD program

Recommended Posts

I'm having a minor issue with the lego digital designer program. Is there anyway to upgrade to the newest version while saving the old files on the current version? I really want to experiment with some building on the program but i want to have the latest version but i don't want to lose the house i'm building on a saved file on the program.

I tried setting up an email on Lego.com customer service but when i click "Continue" it goes straight to a screen with the buttons that are usually there right after clicking "Send" but there's no "Thank you for contacting Lego customer service" function.

Nothing should be lost in the upgrade, but you can always back up the file on another drive. The default location for LXF files in Windows is in Documents, I believe, in a folder named "LEGO Creations" or something like that.

I might be wrong but does the new LDD not use the same file type that was in the old version (lxf file). :classic:

In which case all you need to be worryied about is if some of the parts have changed.

Hi and welcome in the LDD forum.

I'm not sure I've understood your problem.

Your works made with LDD are saved in external files (.lxf files), and not "inside" the software.

So the only thing you have to take care, is to don't delete your lxf files.

If you fear to loose compatibility with your "old" files, that depends on the version of LDD you are using.

LDD2 and LDD3 are compatible, while LDD1 used a different file format. Upgrading, it could be possible to loose some bricks (very few really), or see some bricks removed from the scene because of the stricter rules about legal and illegal connections.
