Hasbro making LEGO-like products again with Transformers this time

Recommended Posts

Ah, is it still called Built To Rule? Or some new name for a new selection.

I have never come across any anywhere apart from a bit pricey on eBay. Thanks for the info!

Hmpf,Hasbro doesn't want Lego to sell loose SW figures because they do, and Hasbro now sells Lego again :hmpf_bad::thumbdown:

I've experienced BTR before. Their pieces are compatible with Lego, and the quality is better than Megablocks, but worse than Lego. At least these ones will have less specialized pieces. In Canada, you can find these for really cheap.

I will take this as proof that Lego will never get a Transformers license. Why people even bother to ask for it in "what theme should Lego make" threads is beyond me. Also modern war, never going to happen.

Wow. These actually look pretty cool. You can also see that they ripped of the exact molds of some recently created parts

Seeing as this is Hasbro, not clone brand, and they work with plastic toys all the time, I'd be interested to know what kind of quality bricks these are.

As I said before, the quality of BTR was better than Megablocks, but I don't know if these are BTR.

Darn, got beaten to the punch by about a day. :cry_sad:

However, I am probably going to grab a couple of these. I just hope the quality is decent. And, I'll probably rip-off the rip-off and use the designs, except make them out of real Lego.

I wonder: Did Hasbro use the same molds as they did in their "U-Build" games line? I'm guessing so.

I do love the little Bumblebee, Optimus and Starscream minifigs that come with these sets.

I might wait to see more of these. Of course, the fact that they're clearly ripping off Lego with some of those pieces makes me unenthusiastic.

Still a clone brand. Fame in the making of other toys does not make this endeavor less of a clone product.

I've seen Hasbro bricks before, I think I still have them if I didn't give them away among all the other clones I had in Christmas (not sure when I got the Hasbro bricks specifically). They seemed better than the worst megabloks years and slightly lower quality than the best megabloks years.

The yellow one in the OP looks good design-wise, the optimus prime in a post bellow looks kind of silly. I have honestly never seen hasbro brick sets in a retail store, all I ever found was the used bricks mixed in few of the used LEGO bulks I buy weekly.

If this Transformers LEGO-like theme sells well I would expect to see classic GI JOE vehicles and characters show of for the GI JOE 'Real American Hero' 30th anniversary next year.

The bot and vehicle mode looks fantastic! But I am wondering, it is possible to transform from vehicle to bot and vice versa without dissembling like a Transformer? From the looks of it the bot mode is using Bionicle joints while the vehicle mode is like those Racer sets. It would be amazing if it can transform without dissembling any parts.

The minifigures looks like a cheaper version of the Lego minifigure

You can make Transformers out of Lego, but you cannot make Lego out of Transformers

Seeing as anything that isn't Lego is called clone, this set is a Hasbro Brick and therefore a clone. I prefer the term compatible brand seeing how everyone holds clone in such contempt.

If it is in shops, I might pick a set up.

In the Eighties, absolutely uncompatible Tente and Plastic City building toys released their own version, with some difference, of Transfomer cars-robots. They did look pretty and without the need of cloning LEGO parts and basical brick shape. Hasbro, instead, has fallen into clone market, that is disapponting to me :hmpf_bad::thumbdown: . Why in the old days, uncompatible brick based building toys sold well and survived, while now there's such a conformism like this  ? I don't think the cause is only the bad example given by M#g@b70ks or Tycos, maybe some other interest that now I'm not able to catch.

Tyco made better bricks than Lego. Sorry guys but it is true. My Tyco bricks look newer and nicer than the Lego I own from the same time period. None of that ugle browning on the yellow at all.

If those helmets on Hasbro's miniature figures (notice how I don't use the term minifigure? Since minifigure is what I reserve exclusively for LEGO  ) actually fit on LEGO heads, then I might buy some of these sets; particularly Bumblebee and Optimus Prime.

I can't help wondering if Lego can still claim the rights to those recently created bricks. They've lost the rights on the basic shape and function of the brick, but this is different, Hasbro cloned a recent part like this quite exactly.

Heard about these for the last couple months or so and Saw these on the Seibertron.com in the Toy Fair coverage. I have to say I'm impressed. These look alot better than any TF "Lego" style kits we've seen in the past. Their actually recognizable as their relative characters and alt modes. I'll probably pick up at least one of these sets to check out the quality. If they fail to past muster, at least they'll make good display pieces in my office as there overall designs seem to have very good detail. If they at least hold together without glue (unlike the megablock Halo sets) then that will be enough for me. :classic: Here's hoping the quality is good so we see more sets in the future. (I'd love to see Ratchet, Iron hide, and Mack truck Megatron)

I will take this as proof that Lego will never get a Transformers license. Why people even bother to ask for it in "what theme should Lego make" threads is beyond me. Also modern war, never going to happen.

Because it shows interest regardless of whether or not TLC produces the set. And the fact that one company has the license doesn't necessarily mean that you won't see TLC with it in the future. Perfect example would be Pirates of the Caribbean and Cars. Megablocks had both of these Licenses within the last year, and now TLC has them.

As far as Modern war goes, it will happen some day. I'm going to guess within the next 3 to 5 yrs. Maybe not a specific theme, but USC sets or some sort of license theme.

Except that Hasbro doesn't license Transformers, it owns the property outright. So you'll never see Lego Transformers unless something goes seriously wrong at Hasbro.

Woah, this is wicked cool. I used to build Transformers out of LEGO when I was a kid, though quite naturally they looked nothing like this.
