Port Augustine & La Formidable, both WIP

Recommended Posts

I was very happy when I came home from school, a package had arrived...

port_augustine_ship_build002.jpg

It was my BrickLink order and I expected it Thursday, it was a very quick delivery so I started building! :pir-sweet:

port_augustine_ship_build004.jpg

port_augustine_ship_build005.jpg

This is how Port Augustine looks like right now. I have more buildings already but I had no room yet.

The large building you see is the Governor's residence and Trade center. Loosely based on the Cafe Corner.

port_augustine_ship_build010.jpg

port_augustine_ship_build011.jpg

Some men are working on the "La Formidable", it's almost finished but it still needs rigging. :pir-sceptic:

port_augustine_ship_build009.jpg

The shipyard master, architect of this ship, is floating in his dinghy to see everything is going as planned. :pir_laugh2:

As you see the hull isn't completely tiled yet, I've ordered them today along a lot of other bricks I need to complete the "La Formidable".

Thanks for watching!

Again, I lost my grey frog, can you guys find it somewhere? :pir-laugh:

This idea was originally started by Davy Blocks. :pir-blush:

This is a WIP so comments and tips are appreciated!! :pir-blush:

Cap'n Blackmoor, so far your MOC is great. There are a ton of things I like about your MOC. The little trade route you have is really cool. Under The Café Corner, I can see you have a little farm with pigs and sheep’s. I also like how you have the cannons set up in their positions and all the Imperial Guards everywhere protecting everyone. The sea walls really fit your MOC with the stone pictures on the make you MOC look even more appealing to my eyes. The crane you have at the end of your dock is also very nicely made. The pictures of the ship you have so far are great! In your second picture of the La Formidable, I like how you have one of the crew mates hauling up a long Lego brick to make it look like the crew mate is building the ship. I can tell that the little architect on his dinghy is you. :pir-laugh: I am just suggesting that you could put a horse pulling a caravan on the trade route. Also, I think your MOC would look nicer if you were to put some Imperial Guards on the porches of your buildings.

Cap'n Blackmoor, you are doing a great job with you ship and I can't wait to see the finish product.

Keep Bricking!

This MOC looks very news worthy Cap'n Blackmoor, do you have a picture which displays the MOC in its entirity?

Woah! :pir-cry_happy: This looks awesome! I love the sea wall and docks. The large building which I am assuming is a mansion is great. You need to try and improve your other buildings to match these awesome builds. Your ship also looks great! I can't, CAN'T wait for this to be finished. I also am building a port but am trying not to have to make a bricklink order yet.

Thanks! I should make a caravan for the trade route indeed.

I can make one but the ship's stern and bow aren't attached to the ship yet, I try to make it modular but it's quite hard. Thanks for your comment!

Looks great so far. I love the use of dark red. From what I can see the ship looks good. Ill be sure to follow up on the process of this wip.

Thanks!

It was a hard job to find these 'wall bricks' in this quantity. I'm glad I have them!

Thanks! I think I'll post some updates soon! Now I have to wait for my second order. And I think a fort would be very nice...

cool! that looks really great! no big images of the entire ship yet (im very curious about how it will look) but the city looks much stronger than before. its a real fortified town now and thats always useful XD (btw, i have tried to make that green-screen effect in the movie but it ain't perfect yet. so i can buy a real green screen or we just use big blue things that look like a see or sky)

You are probably the only one who knows how the ship is going to look like. :pir_laugh2:

I'm very happy the stone walls look great. I'm looking forward to the result of our movie. :pir-blush:

Updates!!

I've been busy this week and I've done a lot. The main deck is almost complete and so is the bow.

Enjoy!

formidable_build_a003.jpg

The "La Formidable" in it's current state. The stern is still under construction and will be completed later on.

Some additional guns are ordered along some other bricks like tiles to make the hull more realistic.

The bow needs some work as well to make it less angular.

formidable_build_a002.jpg

Here is the bow how it looks like now. The figurehead looks nice in my opinion. The bow could do with some details but I'm working on it to make it so realistic as possible. The bow sprit will come later on.

formidable_build_a005.jpg

I'm proud of this picture which shows the ship will be modular and has a high playability. It is also very handy to fix some things deep in the ship. You can even transport the whole ship in a box whitout damaging it. When you arrive the ship can be build whitin a minute. Great for exhibitions.

formidable_build_a004.jpg

The guns for the large gun deck. I want brown cannons with the new barrels but the red ones are ok so far.

The "La Formidable" has 6 gun ports each side on this deck but I have cannons for only 5 gun ports each side.

formidable_build_a001.jpg

The small storage room in the back of the ship. The stern will be placed here and can be removed. I have still some trouble with connecting the stern to the main deck.

The ship won't have a working rudder because there's not much space for the mechanism.

Thanks for watching!!!

Comments appreciated!!!

I love how you (and some others) managed to incorporate those magnificient large stone-wall sections. It is a fact I will try to include some of them in my very next Bricklink order  !

Your shiphull looks good too, I am really looking forward to see the port (ship incl.) completed!

Nice use of the baseplate !!!

The "sacks" that you see on the right... are these off. TLC products... not that I have a problem with it if not.

But if so... could you please give a link to the BL-cataloq... thx in advance.

The sacks are Playmobil sacks. I ran out of 'cargo and goodies' stuff so I placed some sacks in there to fill it up. I'm thinking about custom made cargo accessoires.

I've also made some cottonbundles by tying up a tissue and put a Lego rubber band around it. It looks quite realistic in my opinion.

I need two from that 'trade route' baseplates to create a trade route in the town. :pir-blush:

Maybe you could make a small unarmed trading boat filled with sereotypical slavic traders. And an old abandoned shop that was turned into a opium den. And i can't wait to see you using the new pirates and castle sets in your mocs

Some updates!

I've been working on the docks this time, I haven't worked on the ship yet because I'm waiting for the last BL order.

Some pictures of Port Augustine at this moment:

formidable_build_b002.jpg

The whole town till now, the two buildings at the left are the Colonial house and pub, the new building is the tan warehouse.

formidable_build_b003.jpg

A close up of the warehouse, as every building in this town, the roof can be removed. I need some doors with a curved top as finishing touch.

formidable_build_b004.jpg

The 'street' of the town. I've ordered more 1x1 tiles for the road. I'm working on a plank of wood to place under the baseplates to rise the town above sea level.

formidable_build_b005.jpg

A close up of the docks. Here you can see I need to rise the baseplates about 6 cm. ( about 2,5 inch ).

formidable_build_b006.jpg

I've added a water feature in front of the Governor's mansion. I have made some extra goodies as well.

formidable_build_b007.jpg

The lower part of the docks, where the scums live. Notice the man running after the rat which stole his last bit of food.

I've tried to make a jungly area here too. At the other end of the town there will be a dense forest.

I hope you like the small update! Comments appreciated! :pir-blush:

Hey I really like the update. I see what you meant by a building on the docks that stores cargo. I am making one as well but it is going to be more of a fortress style because it will be close to my fort(which should be complete soon). I also like how you converted some out of theme minifigures to pirates it is really well done. Also if you don't mind I think I'm going to use your awesome package technique for cargo.

I have no idea, I don't know that much about Playmobil. Perhaps Ebay is a good idea.

This is only the beginning...
