TRADITION. PROTECTION. AMBITION.

On a late summer's day, a great gathering took place at the Hinckwell Villa on top of the Sungold Hill. The master of the house, the wealthy merchant tycoon Heinrich Hinckwell, had invited over the representatives of two other great houses that had been in power in the city of Eubric for ages: the Bonapartes, the wardens of the sea; and the Ziegfrieds, a fabled family of wizards. On that day, the Hinckwells, the Bonapartes and the Ziegfrieds formed a pact that would become known as the Sungold Alliance.

hinckwellvilla.jpg

heroicanpc-heinrichhinckwell.jpg
"My friends, I have a strong belief that with this pact, we will thwart the advance of Ulric Wolfkin's poison in the minds of the citizens."

heroicanpc-altairziegfried.jpg
"That is all well and good, Mister Hinckwell, but what alternative are we offering to the people who grave for justice and laws."

heroicanpc-blackgullbonaparte.jpg
"Alternative? Eubric has been a freeport since the day it was founded! I say our alternative is to keep things as they ought to be!"

heroicanpc-xsenna.jpg
"Lokuro, ei'ara..."

heroicanpc-goldraumziegfried.jpg
"And look how well that has worked out, Commodore!"

heroicanpc-heinrichhinckwell.jpg
"Brothers Ziegfried are correct. While we may think everything is fine and good in our city, the people are restless and unsatisfied."

heroicanpc-blackgullbonaparte.jpg
"Aye, and not just the poverty. The young nobility have joined the outcry for monarchy."

heroicanpc-heinrichhinckwell.jpg
"If the people want a kingdom, I say we shall give them a kingdom. But not one ruled by a wolf-headed outlandish thug, but a noble and civilized king who respects the rich history and customs of Eubric."

heroicanpc-mabelziegfried.jpg
"But which one of us would it be?"

heroicanpc-blackgullbonaparte.jpg
"If we truly must abolish our old ways and have a ruler, I would propose my niece Attina, once she returns from her mission on the Helvetian Ocean. With her worldly experience in leadership and battle, she would make a fine leader for us in these troubled times."

heroicanpc-laurelinehinckwell.jpg
"I must say our older son, Lorcan, has the ambition and vision that is required of a great leader. His expertise in economy and diplomatic relationships would be a major benefit to our city."

heroicanpc-lorcanhinckwell.jpg
"Mother, you flatter me. I am certain father is better at all of that than me."

heroicanpc-bethziegfried.jpg
"But both of them are so young! My husband Altair is an immensely powerful mage but also the kindest person I have ever met. He if anyone could make the people listen to him, and show that we wizards can be depended upon. Many fear magic, but it can be used to do so much good!"

heroicanpc-heinrichhinckwell.jpg
"We could stand here and argue about this all day long, but I have a better idea. We need the support of Heroica. With the influence they have on people, they could really work in our favor. So how about we invite those Heroicans who have shown loyalty to us into the alliance, and give them a say in this matter?"

All three families agreed to Heinrich's idea, and thus choice members of Heroica were sent letters of invitation into the Sungold Alliance.

JOINING THE SUNGOLD ALLIANCE:
~ If a player character has reputation with the Hinckwells, the Bonapartes or the Ziegfrieds, they can opt to join the Sungold Alliance by posting a "letter" where he or she expresses their will to this topic.
~ Once the character has joined, they will lose all reputation with the Shadeaux, the Ji Pei and the Guild of Invision, including access to the expert job classes those Houses offer. Reputation with the Wolfgang is not affected.
~ If at any point the character wants to quit the Sungold Alliance, they will lose all reputation among the three Houses in it as well.
~ By joining the faction, the player character has access to the faction-specific shop, as well as any future events held by the faction.
~ Some future quests will be geared towards a certain faction, while members of the opposing faction may be locked out of them. So please consider your options before joining!

FIRST FACTION EVENT: KINGMAKERS
~ All members of the Sungold Alliance may suggest one candidate to become the ruler supported by the faction. You may only vote for one candidate, but you may change your vote as long as the voting is on.
~ The candidate can be a known NPC or a player character, but not a completely new, made-up character. It has to be a humanoid, not animal, plant or an inanimate object.
~ The influence that the player character's suggestion has is affected by the reputation he or she has among the Houses: each good reputation gives 1 influence, great reputation 2 influence, and outstanding reputation 3 influence.
~ The voting lasts until the end of the year 2015. Once the event is over, the candidate with the most influence behind them will become the faction's choice for the first king or queen of Eubric.

Votes:
Eric: 7 (3 votes by Eric, 3 votes by Erik, 1 vote by Sarge)
Lawrence Boomingham: 15 (6 votes by Althior, 2 votes by Boomingham, 1 vote by Mortimer, 6 votes by Nerwen)

Nerwen approaches a door stamped with shining sun. The golem, standing nearly unnoticed by the door swivels its head to fix its gaze on her. She shows her letter and it returns to passivity.

Stepping inside the Sungold Shop she pins a golden badge to her chest and then purchases 2 bright polishes, for 500 gold.

She also speaks quietly to the servant at the counter.

Nerwen Calmcacil casts her six votes for Lorcan.

With that done she steps out.

OoC: Pretend this happens after 130. It really bums me out to do it this way, but it is what it is. I'll edit with more explanation/role-play once 130 truly ends, if that ever happens.

Arriving in Eubric, Boomingham trudges through the old streets lost deep in thought, bottle to his lips. He finds himself soon at the apartment that he allows Servus to stay in, and steps inside to investigate his charge, the man he had bought out of slavery and given a new life. The two had little in common and their conversations were always stilted and difficult, Servus being callous and rough, but there was camaraderie that couldn't be shaken, of course.

8207243457_8dcdd48b93_t.jpg

"How was your most recent quest?" asks Servus as he offers Boomingham a meager dinner. The former King sits down and exhales heavily.

BoominghamMock2.jpg

"Yet another city in need of saving," he says simply.

Servus nods sagely as Boomingham thinks back to Strivvi, where the slaves were not given the chance to thrive, and to Salamanda, with their slums, and even to the hovels of his own city. He wondered at his two gods, and what they might have to say about it. The Gray Angel. Pseudos. In all societies, there are the weak and the strong, but they do not need to prey on each other. And if the weak are never given a chance, they will remain weak. They need guardians.

8207243457_8dcdd48b93_t.jpg

"They're trying to save this city too," says Servus as he nibbles on some bread. "The houses. The lords and ladies, they're trying to make a King."

Boomingham raises his eyebrow and Servus explains the situation, and then explains that a few of the other heroes are running. Boomingham smiles wolfishly. Here, finally, was a chance. He bids Servus good evening and makes his way to the Hinckwell Villa. On his walk there he thinks over his friends and family, lost a life time ago. He thinks about his failures then. And thinks of his victories then too. He was best a leader when on the field, when serving alongside those he trusted, when trusting them to succeed of their own right.

Being let inside the Villa he bows to all the representatives of the families gathered on that particular night.

BoominghamMock2.jpg

"I have heard that you are seeking a King," says Boomingham. "I would like to throw my hat into the ring. Many years ago, in a distant land, I failed. But I was young and foolish then, and I am wiser now. I no longer wish to live as a King of opulence. I wish only to provide order, and protection. Anyone should be able to succeed in this city. The Crescent Union and the Wolfgang pretend that freedom and equality will allow for that to happen. But they are misguided. The poor are already free to be poor. They must be protected, so that they may learn, attend the academy, be encouraged. We will never all be equal, but with an orderly King, we can allow for all to start equal, for all to thrive. That cannot be achieved in the chaos that the other factions wish to sow. So I would like to be King Lawrence Boomingham once again, defender of the weak, protector of the small, and believer in all." Boomingham thinks the rhyme at the end is pretty catchy, if unintentional, and he feels pretty proud of himself. Barty pops into existence for a brief instance, but if he has anything to say, he holds his tongue.

OoC: Same as with Zepher's post. Pretend this happens after #130, when Eric is physically back in Eubric.

Confident as ever, perhaps now even more, Eric strode into the Sungold Hall. An arrogant yet cheeky and playful smile adorned his face. His eyes flickered wolfishly as he spread his arms and began to speak. "My friends, I have come home."

The Nord lowered his arms and with a booming voice continued to speak, not caring if people were actually paying attention to him or not. "I have come home to the Sungold Alliance to which I pledge my service and whom I wish to lead in this struggle for our beloved Eubric. The beacon in the Crystalline Seas luring many here in search of better lives. So, too, did I make the voyage here from the far-flung northern ice-wastes of Värtland to this fair city, seeking to improve my lot in life."

Feigning a humble attitude, Eric continued his improvised speech: "I struggled, I admit. I struggled and I fell. But I overcame and my struggles made me stronger. I was nobody and now I am a respected member of Heroica and well-known ally of several of your Houses. Make me your leader and I shall become King."

"I am an outsider. I have no relatives here, nor am I even from the South. But make me King and show the world that outsiders can make it in Eubric. It is a city where those who work and strive forward are rewarded. Let us use the light of the Sungold Alliance and commit ourselves to this Shining City upon Uland. We are Eubricans awed by what has gone before, proud of what for us is still…our great Eubric."

The Nord struggled with identifying himself solely as a "Eubrican", a Southerner and casting his Northern roots away, but he did not let these doubt seep through his facade. This was a first step into gaining control of the City and some sacrifices had to be made to achieve the end goal. Once more, Eric put up a big grin and half-raised his arms with his hands open. A short pause before concluding.

"Let's make Eubric great again."

Eric steps up as candidate to become King of Eubric. He places 3 reputation behind him. 4 after #130

Erik enters the meeting-room in the Hinckwell villa. Nervous to be discussing such major events in the presence of such powerful figures, when he speaks, his accent is more noticeable than ever.

"I don't think Eubric needs a king, but I've 'ad dealin's with the Wolfgang before, so I know we could do a lot worse. Heroica's got a duty to try an' see that this all works out to 'ave the best outcome for the most people, particul'y those with less ability to look after 'emselves."

As the barbarian fidgets with his peacekeeper's totem, he considers the candidates standing for King. Lorcan Hinckwell... Boomingham... there's something about him I should remember... and Eric...

"So, I'm not votin' for any house members. You all have duties to your houses, and a King needs to be impartial."

That's it, Karie had something to say about Boomingham, what was it...

"Can't say I've worked with either of the heroes runnin' for king, but I've heard of 'em."

He's a pompous fool, that's what it was.

"From what I've heard, Eric's got the strength to do what's right, even if it ain't popular."

Erik uses his three votes to vote for Eric. (Good reputation: Ziegfrieds, Great reputation: Bonapartes)

Ooc: Imagine that this happens post #130 n' stuff

Sarge left the bar with Eric, having refrained from indulging in too much alcohol, it felt wrong whiling his newly regained life away. He felt proud as they burst into the Sungold hall. Giving no noticce to the Bonapartes he had once worked for. After Eric had made his speech Sarge himself stood forward, armor shining in the light. His intention was to bolster his friend's speech and inspire the crowd. "Until now, Eubric's politics has consisted of small minded traders and those idealogical kiddies in the union and the wolfgang. Let's change that, make Eubric back into the glrious empire it once was"

He was unsure about whether Eubrc had ever been an empire, but would fevrently call anyone who pointed this out unpatriotic. He raised a fist and let out a cheer for the new king of Eubric. The old man grabbed a bright yellow sash and slung it over his shoulder, indicating for his allies to do the same.

Sarge used his vote (2 after #130) to vote for Eric

Having drifted around aimlessly for a while Namyrra chanced upon the Sungold Hall and decided more or less on a whim to go in and join the Sungold Alliance.

"Hmm, that's a.. fine list of candidates for king I suppose.. I'll have to think about this some more before committing my votes to one of them."

Nerwen feels the gold sunburst on her chest vibrate. She unpins it and holds it in her hand, concentrating. She hears list of the current members and votes in her mind. Still holding the pin she replies.

I have seen Eric's loyalty to the Bonapartes. No doubt his loyalty to the Hinkwells and Ziegfrieds is as strong.

Six votes for Boomingham. Let him lead if he wants it.

With that done, she returns the pin to its place and concentrates again on her quest.

The founders of the Sungold Alliance gathered to see how the voting for their royal candidate was going.

heroicanpc-heinrichhinckwell.jpg

"This is certainly a surprise: two famous heroes of Heroica have hogged all the votes!"

heroicanpc-blackgullbonaparte.jpg

"I am glad that it is Sir Lawrence Boomingham who is in the lead, over that ex-pirate. Have you heard the rumours that Sir Lawrence was a king during the Orcish Invasion, resurrected by magic?"

heroicanpc-altairziegfried.jpg

"Magical or not, he is old and battle-weary. I would rather see someone young and energetic like Eric as a king. He would not be afraid to lead this city into a new glory."

heroicanpc-laurelinehinckwell.jpg

"It remains to be seen, gentlemen. There is still some more time for the heroes to vote..."

The first event, Kingmakers, ends in 24 hours!

Eric watched as the votes massed, but not in his favor. "Simpletons", was a first thought that crossed his mind and he rolled his eyes. Lawrence was a good friend of Eric's and if he would win this, then Eric would follow him, but right now he was an adversary and the fight was not over yet. Eric stepped up once more and in a booming voice proclaimed: "It is I you need to vote for. It is I who will strengthen Eubric's foundation and guide this ship we call home to a better future."

"Some may doubt my loyalties, but I have always come through. Does one need to doubt my loyalty because I don't follow orders directly to the letter? Maybe, but I'd rather make my choices like a man than follow orders like a dog. No man holds complete sway over me, I admit. That's is simply because I am a born leader instead of follower. Elect me and I shall lead this Alliance to victory and vanguard a better tomorrow for all. Besides, if all you desire is a lackey of the Houses, then you're just better off voting for one of their own candidates, aren't you?"

"Lawrence is a good man, but this city needs a beast to lead it and rear it. It is the predator who survives in the wild. Compassion for the weak is good", Eric smiled and softly nodded before his expression turned somewhat more aggressive and with a snarling grin he said, "but a conviction to win and beat is better."

The Nord beat his chest. "We are the Sungold Alliance. Eubric once shone because of the people here and I will make it shine once more. A glistering, shining gem in the Crystalline Sea I shall make this city again!"

"I respect my adversary, but let's not leave the future of Eubric solely up to old men. Crescent Union is on the verge to elect an old man as well. Are we really going down the same road? Are you copycats, followers?"

Eric's grin grew wider and a passionate fire lit up his eyes. "Or are we leaders who dare to make the difference and who dare to make the difficult choice?"

He closed his fist and held it to his heart. "I will protect our city and its traditions. That is my ambition."

Sarge swaggered into the building with his coin purse full and a very vlear intention in mind, a few minutes later he exited with a significantly lighter purse, but very well armoured, for he had bought 8 bright polishes (250*8=2000 gold) and used them on one of his cloaks of the grand vizier (which he equipped, the other has been traded with pretzel)

"Finally come to grace us with your presence?" asks Obero as Boomingham walks into Sungold HQ at the Hinckwell Villa. Heinrich, lounging in a chair nearby, sits bolt upright and walks forward to greet the once and future King.

heroicanpc-heinrichhinckwell.jpg

"My name is Heinreich. I believe we met briefly at the Foundation Day Ball. This is Obero."

heroicanpc-blackgullbonaparte.jpg

"Commodore Obero Blackgull."

Boomingham shakes hands with both men.

heroicanpc-heinrichhinckwell.jpg

"We have much to discuss. If you wouldn't mind..." he gestures towards a sitting room.

BoominghamMock2.jpg

"My apologies, gentlemen, but first I have a mission of good will to go on. A hatchet to bury before I can effectively lead. I once served against the Orcs, in the Orcish Invasion many years ago. Feel it's about time I finished up that business, one way or another. Make peace, or make war. Find out what sort of man I am. I am aware that it is not the best of times, but I will come back a better man for it." Boomingham bows to the Hinckwell, but keeps his eyes on the Commodore. If one of the two men would understand what he meant, it was him. There is a long pause.

heroicanpc-blackgullbonaparte.jpg

"I am glad we have a man of such mettle leading us," says the Commodore eventually. "Finish your business, and then return to us."

heroicanpc-heinrichhinckwell.jpg

"But for the time being, do us the favor of wearing our colors." The Hinckwell goes and retrieves a pile of clothing, and gives it to Boomingham. "Show them that Sungold looks after the safety of our neighbors, not that damned Union."

BoominghamMock2.jpg

"That's the idea," says Boomingham.

Changing in a wash closet in the Villa he emerges to moderate applause from Heinreich and a curt nod from Obero. (He also buys two bright polishes -500=318 gold).

Eric walked into the Hinckwell Villa once again. His loss here left a bitter taste in his mouth, but at least he had lost from a friend and not some idiot member of a House. The Nord didn't stay for too long, merely purchasing a Cornucopia, an investment which left him with 1360 Gold afterwards.

Jinnipher strolled into Hinckwell Villa, imagining to herself that she had charmed her way right past the guards. She held herself in her usual manner, tall and chin held high with swaying hips, a slight fold in her brow which gave rugged texture to an otherwise flawlessly pale and smooth elven face. Save of course, for her distinctive freckles that clung below her almond-colored eyes like stars beneath the moon.

She strode towards whoever happened to be loitering in the foyer with a rolled-up scroll in her clutch. "It's time I picked a side and we moved toward something worth fighting for in this city. Since the Bonapartes seem among the only competent people around, I'm drawing a line in the sand. Eubric will never truly be free if we don't protect the people in it and we're constantly relying on swords for hire, or at least competent ones like me, to save the world. We need order and a chain of command. The old man at least has some experience being king, so I'm fine with his leadership. As long as his mind hasn't gone soft like his belly and is as strong of a military leader as he says he is."

She held out the scroll and crossed her arms. "Anyway, I need this signed as a token of my allegiance."

Jinnipher uses her Letter of Recommendation for the Bonapartes and joins the Sungold Alliance! She also cuts ties with the Ji Pei.

SECOND FACTION EVENT - A SUNNIER EUBRIC

heroicanpc-heinrichhinckwell.jpg

"Well then," says Hinckwell once Blackgull, Altiar and Goldrum have been seated in the Hinckwell Villa, "I believe that we have done enough dawdling."

heroicanpc-blackgullbonaparte.jpg

"Much agreed.  We have chosen a King, but we have done nothing to secure the protection and loyalty of the people of Eubric.  That should be our primary concern.  Do not think that I have forgotten the attack on my nephew in the Hovels a few years ago."

heroicanpc-laurelinehinckwell.jpg

"That is exactly where I would suggest we begin, gentlemen.  The Hovels have plagued this city for too long, and they are an open embarrassment to us and to the rest of the world.  We must do our best to protect our people, and to bring order to those who are less fortunate than ourselves."

Proposition One: The Hovels

heroicanpc-blackgullbonaparte.jpg
Option 1: Conscription
“It seems to me that the trouble with the Hovels is that there is no discipline and no outlet for the people within the Hovels.  I’d suggest that every able-bodied man and woman within the Hovels serve the years between eighteen and twenty-one in the Bonaparte Fleet, the Town Watch, or the Paladin Order.  After their service if they choose to move on we will be happy to subsidize their education at the Academy of Enlightenment.”

heroicanpc-heinrichhinckwell.jpg
Option 2: A House is a Home
“It is obvious that these people are living in squalor, and it is admittedly difficult to advance while you are concerned about the roof over your head.  It would be easiest if we hired out a number of artisans and foremen to build better housing in the Hovels, and hired the citizens of the Hovels themselves as the work crew.  This way they could learn valuable skills, get paid for their efforts, and no longer worry about their housing.”

Second Faction Event: Propositions

  • Each hero within the Sungold Alliance can vote for one of the options on each proposition (there are more coming).  Whichever proposition gets the most votes by the end of the voting period will become the Sungold Alliance's official stance.
  • Each proposition comes with a hidden stats boost related to the proposition itself.  Once it is enacted, all members of the Sungold Alliance will be able to equip that boost if they so please.  They will be rewarded a Sungold Medallion, which will not take up any artifact spot.  This Medallion will continue to improve as more propositions are put into place.
  • Quests for the Sungold Alliance will reflect the propositions that are being voted on.

heroicanpc-altairziegfried.jpg

"It seems most obvious to me that the people of the Hovels will never be able to help themselves if they are worried about being rained upon!  We must make giving them all homes a priority."

heroicanpc-goldraumziegfried.jpg

"Nonsense!  What they need is some discipline.  I say let them serve if they want their education.  Have them earn it."

Voting Ends Jan. 14th 12 AM EST (midnight of the 14th... however that is best denoted).

Nerwen feels the sunburst pin vibrate again. Stepping down to the meeting hall used by the heads of the alliance families, she listens to the propositions.

The strength of a city is not in its arms but its hands. Option 2 gives new, useful skills to the citizens.
