Francis Marion Posted March 23, 2008 Before coming here I have spent several months making ships on LDD and have seen a small number of those kinds of ships here. What are the main problems that make it such a little-used tool?

Admiral Blockbeard Posted March 24, 2008 (edited) I used if for about a week, made one and a half ships... took along time to make the first as i was working out the program... The main problem i faced with the program is the lack of a hull piece, and lack of colour choice whith the upside down slanted pieces, (found in roof section)... also it takes SO LONG to build, or at least it did for me... heres a picture of my LDD MOC of a ship... Mister Phes Posted March 24, 2008 I've used MLCAD (Mikes LEGO CAD (Mikes LEGO Computer Aided Design X-D )) but never LDD. To my knowledge LDD is required to run MLCAD so I presume I have LDD, but what's the difference? Does anyone know what the differences are between the two? Does anyone know what the differences are between the two? Well I belive that MCLAD takes some time to Learn how to 1. Find the Pieces 2. How to move 3. If they click or not. MCLAD is useful to create ships and old lego sets. LDD is more for City and Space. The only reason I dont use MCLAD is once I click a piece, I dont know whether it actually is connected to say the Hull. A good MCLAD version of the BSB Heres the Link Blockbeard Click

Scouty Posted March 24, 2008 I personally use MLCad, too. I used it to design some...stuff. ;-)

Errorist Posted March 25, 2008 (edited) Before coming here I have spent several months making ships on LDD and have seen a small number of those kinds of ships here. What are the main problems that make it such a little-used tool? The main problem i had was not having all of the legobricks that have ever been made in the program. This caused me to build around certain problemareas like the bow and stern etc.. It's also the main reason why i started designing really big ships. And then you stumble onto another major issue. Namely the number of bricks which can be used to build something with. 10000 is the maximum number i got to use before the program started jamming up. Those are the two main problems you can have with LDD. The first one is "avoidable" and the second one is as well, just as long you are not building big Edited March 25, 2008 by Errorist
Admiral Blockbeard Posted March 25, 2008 I completely agree with erroist, i was making a huge castle plus port for my ship, i saved it then all of the sudden would never load again because it had too many bricks... all that work was lost. has anyone ever had this problem with MLCad? Mister Phes Posted March 28, 2008 The person to ask that question to is ZCerberus as he's designed some quite impressive creations in MLCad and then to top it all off he actually built them. He hasn't visited the forum in a while so you may need to PM him and bring this thread to his attention.
