[MOC][WIP][LDD] Minifig Scale Rebels Ghost Build

Recommended Posts

I have been working on this since Rebels first came out, and I've seen a lot of really nice MOCs being built, mostly of the Phantom. But seeing so many talking about building a Ghost to match, I thought I'd show off what I have of mine so far.

It is 134 studs long and 109 studs wide. The original intent was to have a full interior, I'm not 100% sure if that plan will make it through to the final design but we shall see. Currently the cockpit, main corridor, loading area, forward gun turret, Zeb&Ezra's room, Kanan's room and Sabine's room are fully fleshed out, I will probably do Hera's room since it was finally shown in season 2. I may upload those pictures in the future. But here is what I have for the exterior so far.

I put in the official LEGO Ghost set for scale.

Thoughts and opinions are welcome. I look forward to one day hopefully showing off the actualized model.

I was waiting for that, a mining scale Ghost! Your project has my enthusiastic endorsement  It seems you've done a really great work so far, can't wait to see it finished and built with real bricks. I think that the shape of the Ghost allows to build a very detailed interior, but I am aware that it would require a lot of time to design and build it in depth, not to mention the sky-high brick count the project would probably reach...

Anyway, again, astounding work! Proportions look very accurate, maybe except for the rear part with the engines, which looks a little too long to me, but it seems that it can be modified/shortened easily... what do you think about it?

It's quite possible, I scaled my design off of this picture. I could be off by a few studs.

In fact, the photo of your model from above looks pretty accurate when compared to this picture. Now that i think about it, It's probably a matter of perspective (i got that impression from the last image of your model) :classic:

This is an amazing piece of work and dedication what with all those angles. I hope you do manage to make a real version (with an interior!). This is superb.

Wow!! I love this ship, hope you include interior pics soon.

Where are you at for piece count?!

This looks fantastic!

I'm a bit sad that it's not quite large enough to take my Phantom shuttle (would making it a few studs bigger have killed you  ?) but other than that: I love it.

BTW there were some cockpit designs shared in another thread a few months ago which you might want to take a look at...

That looks pretty awesome! It also appears to be quite a pile of bricks once its in the non-digital realm, which makes it a quite ambitious project  I hope to see it built though. It seems very promising :classic:

Wow, it looks like you've done a great job designing it! I really do hope you build it in real bricks, this would be quite a project to do! Not to mention awesome fun to build :sweet::thumbup:

Beautiful work, my friend: a daring and well executed project.

I'd love to see the interior but even more than that, I'd love to see how it looks in real bricks. Do you plan to actually build it? Or perhaps you've already checked the crucial sections of the ship in real bricks to see if they hold together? And what about color availability?

Im actually quite interested to know what the frame on the inside is like and how the outside panels connect to the frame. This is something that I am not very good at/am inexperienced in and have yet to learn how to do it properly :(

I'm in awe of how you've achieved the angles!

Currently I'm at 9438pcs, that's including my Phantom.

When I saw your estimated Ghost size for you Phantom it was pretty close to the size of mine, but my Phantom is much smaller than yours unfortunately. I will look into those cockpit options.

I will try to get interior photos up soon, super busy at the moment. I'd like to build it in real bricks, but that will also be up to finances. Colour wise I've tried to stick with bricks that exist, but I will have to double check.

I'm not the best at framing either, in fact I've noticed that I am going to have to tweak what I have of supports currently. Which is also why I'm not sure about having a full interior, due to the supports and way all the angles come together, I don't know if there will be a way to open up the ship to show the interior.

Oh my God!

That is a BIG beauty!

Really looking forward to see interior pics and further progress on the exterior.

Are there many hard-to-find pieces in your build? If you manage to make it buildable and if you're ok with it, I might go for a huge BL-order and build one for my own Rebels fleet

Alright, so I had some free time this morning to take some interior photos, I had to remove a substantial amount of the model in order to really get some decent pictures.

First is the room layout, sort of an overview.

Next we have some closeups of the rooms, first we have Sabine's room.

Her room took the most work since it is graffiti all over.

Next is Ezra & Zeb's room.

And then we have Kanan.

I don't have a properly decorated room for Hera yet, but soonish.

Next a closeup of the main corridor.

Next we move on to the cockpit, it could use some more detail, but it is what I have for now.

30567632558_8abfb4f12e_n.jpg

Now we have the front gunner station.

30567634468_1a41478422_n.jpg

And then we go down to the loading area, I realize that the doors on the floor hinge rather than slide, but there isn't a huge amount of space to work with, so I haven't figured a way around that yet.

Alright, so that's all that I currently have interior wise, depending on how my rebuild of the support system goes, I may have to sacrifice the bedrooms, but we shall see.

EDIT:

Just adding some pictures of the Phantom that goes with my Ghost.

Created a user just to post - this is amazing!

Looking forward to further progress. I think the crew rooms are a big part of the character of the ship, so retaining those would be key to the end result

I love the interior shots! It's so detailed and seems to match up perfectly with the actual ship. I really hope you get a chance to build a physical version -- it'd be absolutely massive!

Thank you for the comparison pics of the Phantom. Well, that's put paid to the hope that my version could be squeezed in...

I like what you've done with your Phantom! It looks great, and you've made good design choices: it's instantly recognisable, true to the proportions of the original, and important details (like the underside hatch) are present and correct.

The only part I'd take a second look at is the cockpit canopy - would the new x-wing canopy work better?

Yeah, when I saw you posted a model I downloaded it to take a look, I wasn't expecting it to be twice to size.

As far as the canopy goes, I've been trying to find something that wold fit, but the biggest issues I'm having are that either everything is too small, too big or just won't fit the space. I tried using the three 30536's but they are too short and don't cover enough area.

So for now, I'll have to keep looking.

Had a bit of time and fleshed out Hera's room. Also took some slightly better photos of the other crew rooms in case anyone wanted a better look.

Enjoy.

Yes, it is twice the size of the original Phantom model 75048, and 1.3 times the size of your shuttle.

BTW I can see that my estimate of how big I'd need to make a matching Ghost was wildly out. I've now calculated it as 178 studs long: that's 142.4 cm or four and a half feet. Ouchie...

Back on topic:

Thank you for sharing pictures of the rooms. They look great - Hera's and Sabine's rooms have lots of character, and are very recognisable.
