The guild of Temukan is a large complex of islands well to the south of Kaliphlin - nobody knows just how far, as it lies beyond the Mashuak gyre (otherwise known as the crooked sea), a fearsome body of water that confounds even the most canny of navigators.

The geography of Temukan is still young, and consists of a still growing mountain range, several grumbling volcanos and many offshore reefs. The fertile lowlands are largely covered by thick jungle and swamps, and the climate is tropical, with distinct wet and dry seasons.

Temukan is home to many races; humans, snake people, jungle demons and others yet undiscovered within the mountains and on outlying islands. Humans are by far the most numerous on the east coast of the main island, while the jungles to the west are dominated by fierce jungle demons. The large south-east island is home to the snake people.

Hapdan Thanc is the hereditary monarch of the Temukan guild, and his banner is black and gold. The Hapdan's have ruled the guild for many generations, although the power of the monarch is now mainly limited to traditional ceremonies, and an oligarchy of powerful nobles runs the guild on a day to day basis. However, the military is still loyal to the crown, and with the discovery of new maps that could lead to a passage to rest of Historica, Thanc sees an opportunity to wrest back control from the nobles.

The military of Temkukan is varied depending on the province. Near the capital of Kaalaman, there is open ground for cavalry. The best pikemen are agreed to come from the south, from the cities of Sungam and Arungan. The best archers and the fastest ships come from the north, in the tea-growing province of Kota.

civillians1eb_220912.jpg

Society is highly ordered into castes, with nobles wearing highly coloured and decorated clothing, while farmers, trademen and monks wear much more simple and practical clothing.

snakeppl1eb_220912.jpg

Among the most facsinating and secretive races on Temukan are the snake people - they are renowned as healers and craftsmen on the main island. Legend has it that a former king was healed by a snake shamen, and since then, the totem of the Hapdans has been the snake in rememberance of that debt. All snakes and serpents are considered as equal to humans, and it is forbidden to harm them. If bitten, it is an easy matter to buy anti-venom (made and sold by the snake people) at the local markets, thus it is extremely rare for anyone to die of snake bite.

But not all races are freindly towards humans - the jungle demons of the western jungles have an insatiable appitite for human flesh, and often appear as huge, misshappen pigs to terrify thier opponents! The province of Kota has the most trouble with them, and suffers raids from time to time.

The royal teahouse in Kaalaman. Tea is a revered beverage in Temukan, and various blends are said to have healing and calming properties. The king himself turned one of his many grand residences in the capital into a teahouse, and it is a popular place for wealthy merchants and nobility to meet.

A monk leaves the teahouse, having had his mind refeshed with a strong cup of mountain tea.

A noble pores over a new map with the captain of the gaurd, while a snake craftsman enjoys a cup of tea in the background.

On his private balcony, Hapdan Thanc meditates on the opportunities presented by the possibility of a reliable passage to the rest of Historica.

Wow, Gabe! I think you hit it out of the park again! (Hope you get that; I realize it's an American phrase...) I really like what you did to the top of the teahouse; it looks great. That's a wonderful build. Nice guild; I like the snake and pig creatures. I'm sure my guild, the Kelasituan, are probably frequent traders with Temukan; there are definitely a few similarities.

Great job Gabe, my only question is how the ruler is ever going to get down from the balcony! (Just kidding) Great background story, really excellent work with your minifigs too.

Great work Gabe! Congrats on being blogged by TBB as well.

Your vignette is superb and the story and figs are well though out

I'm sure the guild leaders are going to have a tough time judging all these great entries

Wow! This is my favorite MOC of this challenge - just superb! I love the different styles you've incorporated, and the studded roof works great! I also like the use of the log bricks and the little lanterns. Amazing!

I was thinking of incorporating the snake figs from Ninjago myself, but you've done an excellent job of incorporating a lot of that theme into your guild, making this a very appealing option for new builders as all the pieces are in one theme!

I really like your descriptions and your hand drawn map, and I love all the unique pieces you've used with your figs, and I LOVE the buckets!

Can't say I'm thrilled about your pigs though

Great job!

Awesome! The build is superb and that alone might earn the win here! The Gold/Copper armor and sword for the samurai....is that official Lego or from somewhere else? I love the look of it and would like to check it out

Thanks NM, i'm glad you like the end result! (and we are familiar with that saying in Aust. too, we just use it to refer to cricket rather than baseball. But the meaning remains unchanged) Much less of the "haunted house" vibe now with the remodelled roof and balcony. :classic: I'm sure our guilds would have crossed paths too, especially as yours gets around quite a lot. (Brilliant idea btw, super orginal!)

Perfect! my favorite so far!

Aw, thanks Legonardo!

Haha, thanks Kai! Give me another 20 studs back and i'll show you how he gets down..

Thanks soccerkid! Yeah, blogged again, it's kinda blowing my tiny mind. I know what you mean about the contest going to be a tough one, not only are there lots of amazing entries, but they are often awesome in different ways. Half the time when i'm reading through them i get ideas for how i would build within that world; there has to be at least half a dozen really different ideas that i'd be stoked to see formed into a 5th guild.

Thanks rogueang, i really appreciate your kind words about my moc. I had a stack of fun making it, the roof certainly posed a few challenges to get it to fit together. :classic:

I atually feel as though my figs were a bit rushed though - i did try to mix things up a bit, but the Ninjago figs were such a good fit that in the end i kinda went "eh, good enough". I do have a soft spot for those snake figs too, they are pretty awesome/unique and it felt good to include them in my world. Can you tell i got the Samurai mech not long ago? A lot of the pieces (and all of the figs) from that set made it into my entry! I also recently treated myself to some of Brick TW's awesome custom minifig accesories, so they are everywhere here too.

Aw, you don't like my pigs jungle demons though? Idk, it was sort of a vague stab at a Monkey reference i guess...

Very nice! The jungle demon idea is hilarious! Nice use of the ninjago theme!

Yes, you get it! I kinda want to get a stack of Fabuland pigs to make a debauched demon village now...

:devil::laugh: Thanks Mikel!

Awesome! The build is superb and that alone might earn the win here! The Gold/Copper armor and sword for the samurai....is that official Lego or from somewhere else? I love the look of it and would like to check it out

Thanks Kayne! :classic: The chrome parts are from Brick TW, who specialise in custom accessories from Chinese history and popular culture. They have some sweet stuff and the quality is very high too, you should def check them out.

Great entry, the accent colors in your build really make it shine!

Thanks Torgar, glad you like it! :classic:

Considering my obsession with Japan, and your island's similarities with Japan, I would move here.

This is truly phenomenal, Gabe.

Beautiful details and presentation Gabe. You really have a gift for colour and texture. This is an amazing vig given the size limits, it feels a lot larger thanks to all your detail. I think you have hit a very happy balance between South East Asian and East Asian architectures with this, it would certainly be a fun guild to build. The figs came out well too, the characterization of different castes is very strong.

Good luck in the contest

I have to admit that I am really afraid of these pig looking people  Great job on these!

And also a very nice and detailed 20x20 vignette!

Great work gabe! I really enjoyed reading the storie and watching the details on the vignette. Mainly the roof is outstanding, also the colors work well. I'm not that sure about the figs, but as you've said yourself, they're a bit rushed. The pigs though are briljant

Thanks Dustin! :classic: Although i was imagining the island to be more similar in topography/climate to a mix of Papua New Guinea and Thailand, rather than Japan. I tried to reflect that a little in the architecture as well, but the Chinese/Japanese influences does tend to run quite heavily over the top of it.

Dangit! You beat me to the samurai guild!

There's still nothing to stop you making your own though! (apart from the contest being closed now - but you could still do it for your own amusement)

Thanks robuko, i'm really glad you like it! :classic: I really do hope that one of the Asian inspired guilds gets the nod, i'm raring to build more in this style! (Although that would mean saying goodbye to building on floating rocks, or having a dragon-riding guild, or sea elves, or celestials... ahhh, why can't we have 10 extra guilds?? :cry_sad: )

I have to admit that I am really afraid of these pig looking people  Great job on these!

Haha, yeah, especially that one on the far left... those eyes freak me out! Thanks DaMaximus!

Cheers Ecclesiastes, glad you enjoyed the story and vig. :classic: Yeah i know, the figs aren't my strong point, but it's hard to compete with some of the brilliant combos others have put out there in thier entries. Glad you like the pigs/jungle demons though!

Sorry for not commenting earlier, this is maybe my favourite build for this challenge, the colours are so nicely put and alive that I can almost hear the murmur and the background music from the teashop

I'm even thinking of hiring some of those pig demons to do some dirty work for me back at Nocturnus ;)

Best of luck!
