LPub: How to move the model in a step

Recommended Posts

Hi again everyone! My questions about LPub never seem to end :D

Now I wonder if there is any way to move the model in the step so a specific part of the model gets visible. As shown in the screen shot a couple of pieces are added to the front part of the model but LPub zooms in at the middle of the model so these parts are not visible. I don't really want to zoom out since that would make everything very small.

I hope this isn't a duplicate topic, I tried to find another topic about this but I didn't.

No, that's not possible (as far as I know).

Possible 'solutions' include changing the scale (so making the image smaller) or changing the paper from a portrait position to a landscape position.

I remember I also read something about this a long while ago, but I can't remember it exactly. It had something to do with adding an (invisible) brick somewhere far from the model, which will 'move' the center of the image and thus will 'move' the visible part of the image. Again, I can't remember it exactly (and not sure if it'll work).

But, it might be a nice addition to LPub3 to be able to move larger-than-page images. I'm gonna ask; who knows: maybe it's in a future update of LPub3D (if it isn't already and I just don't know  )

Thank you for replying. I think it's strange if that feature isn't included, since it's very useful when dealing with larger models. I have LPub 3D installed on my PC but it's VERY slow so I prefer LPub 4 on my Mac. If thats a feature for LPub 3D only I think I'll change the scale of the model instead.

Both LPub and the newer LPub3D have always been fairly slow (although LPub3D is faster than LPub). However, in an upcoming update to LPub3D, the author made some big changes under the hood and it'll be up to 75% faster (using LDview as a renderer). That's quite a lot! :classic:

Okay, the reason LPub 4 is faster for me may be that my mac is approximately 1000 times faster than my PC

I faintly remember using this method a while ago. But it is rather hard to debug... Parts using direct color 0x7ffffff have no visible surface but lines are still visible so you have to use something that has no edge line. Using a disc primitive works fine (tested in LDView) eg.

1 0x7ffffff -1000 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 4-4disc.dat

Okay, thank you! I'll try it :)
