I am in a little bit of a creative lull right now, so I decided I needed to make something small and quick. I very much enjoyed doing the quick build of the 911 I did earlier this year. There was something enjoyable about posting nightly, and watching how something comes together in the course of a week or two. Plus the feedback was enjoyable and contributed to a better MOC.

So I decided to do a small tow truck: an International DuraStar. Since I have spent so much money on many pneumatic parts, but find myself decidedly in the Linear Actuator camp, I figured a MOC with pneumatics would be a good challenge. The MOC will feature:

  • Steering
  • Drive
  • Fake motor
  • Winch
  • Crane
  • Crane extension
  • Car lift

Final colors will be yellow with blue highlights.

Here is the first WIP picture, and more will be posted nightly (roughly).

Looks like a very promising start! I can't wait to see the finished model, with all those functions it should be quite impressive

Not much time to build tonight. The scale is set and the truck is two studs taller and longer. I'm not sure I like it. Most of the mechanics are placed.

I'll try to finalize the boom tomorrow, and start placing some of the pneumatic hoses.

Sorry I took a day off. I rebuilt the frame, and changed the rear car lift to a better design. Tonight I'll work on the front body work, and run the pneumatic hoses.

So I got a little distracted by Porsche fever, traveling for work, and Thirdwigg Jr. the Second getting five (!) teeth. But we are back in business and making progress on this project.

All the mechanics are working well including the pneumatics, and all the body work solutions have been identified. Maybe now I can spend some time sorting and find all the needed yellow and LBG parts...
