Adventurer in Gnarled Forest

This vignette is a tribute to LEGO Universe. It depicts a chunk of the pirate-themed world Gnarled forest, and a brave rookie who's going on an adventure on his first day of play. Provided that he survives his armourless journey, this fella will be a perfect Venture League recruit!

For those that have never heard of LU, it was a massively multiplayer online role playing game (mmorpg) that released in October 2010 and got closed in February 2011. It is without a doubt the most ambitious Lego game ever; it had a multitude of inspiring fantasy worlds, quests, factions, minigames, in-game Lego building spaces, never-seen-before gear and one main goal: defeating the evil Maelstrom. You can check out the

, the gameplay trailer and the wiki. Two promotional sets were released: http://brickset.com/...e-LEGO-Universe .

On a side note,

I'm in the process of developing a LU project for LEGO Ideas. Since you are potentially the target audience, I would really appreciate it if you be so kind to answer three questions:

- To you, are there any particular things (locations, mini-builds, NPC's, etc.) that should be included in a LU set?

- What is your favorite faction?

- Would you be interested in buying a LU set?

Any other tips or experiences are welcome, of course!

Thanks for looking, C&C appreciated! :classic:

Wow, this looks great. Those red leaves really look great, I didn't even know they came in that color.

Lego Universe, never forget.

I would support a LU project in a heartbeat... great model by the way.

Maybe a set with the original LU figure: Bob, and possibly a small to medium sized model of the Venture Explorer? I've always wanted a model of it that wan't micro-scale..

Man, I did have fun on that game, even if there were some issues there.

Great build! I can recall sending my figure off and exploring through that land!

Great job! The only thing that's could be improved here would be a few more leaves on the tree. Apart from that everything is excellent.

It was great fun- at least the part I saw of it, the paid membership never got rolled out to Australia! I think if Lego released it along with a line of sets it could have been much more successful- there was a lot of potential for great sets and the revitalisation of some of the classic themes there... Oh well. Here's to a Lego universe ideas set!

Beta-tester

Consider the idea supported by myself. There was a lot of fun stuff and great builds lost to the closing of the game and an actual set or two would be great.

I was always a fan of any Venture League member. Renee Tombcrusher would be a cool figure to see or the LU iteration of Sky Lane. Of course, the leader Hael Storm would be great too. Locations wise, well... I loved Gnarled Forest but mini-builds wise the space craft were best.

- What is your favorite faction?

Venture League!

- Would you be interested in buying a LU set?

If they had existed at the time I would have and I certainly would now.

Great MOC, I want more scenes! Really nice, and LU set eh? All factions please!

Thanks for your feedback! The Venture Explorer/Venture Koi was definitely a cool ship, but maybe the market is too small to appear in a set? This project only got 157 supporters.

Yeah, I was thinking about ways to represent all factions.

Nice tribute to LU. I like the way you constructed the bottom part of the "island"

Really nice shaping on the floating island. It all looks very Lego Universe-y.

Thanks! For the bottom part I started with an old BURP and simply started adding sloped pieces to it.

Thank you! I'm actually quite happy with the tree, given it only uses only two (my last) dark read leaves pieces, purist construction. But agreed, I would have liked a more elaborate tree as well. A line of sets accompanying the game could probably have changed the fate of the game. Btw, I think LU would still fit perfectly into Dimensions.

Bèta tester, a real die-hard I see! Thanks a lot for your suggestions, Pepper! I'll do my best to represent the Venture League properly.

(Didn't think you would prefer Sky Lane over Peppermint Lane! Just kidding, she rocks!)

Great work exetrius!

Yes, of course i'd buy it! :sweet:

Haha, I thought you would! Thanks!

I feel like if they actually made LU sets, the game would have lasted longer. After all, LU set purchases would not only raise more interest, maybe they could direct the money made by these sets to development of the game.

I'd love not only to see buildings, but actual landscapes, with things like forests and temple gates. And imagine what the D2Cs would be like...

Even a LU console game (which would diversify itself from the regular "break and build" formula Lego games are known for), would go amazingly well, and I can tell that even people who've never heard of LU before would love it too.

wow, nice. Btw if anyone wants to see some LEGO Universe sets made you could always support this: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/102041 :D

And this by another builder :https://ideas.lego.com/projects/146653

Thank you! So, it's back online again! I will support (already did with the other one).

Was gonna mention those when he asked for set ideas! Things like the Venture Koi and Spider Queen are definitely the most iconic parts of the game. Beyond them, maybe a "Rocket-Builder-Pack." It would come with all the nose-cones, exhausts, and bodies of the in-game rockets and you could swap them around to make your own. Perhaps it could come with the launch pads? The Nexus Tower on Crux Prime would be sweet too (Naomi minifig!) You could do Nimbus Station (the main square) but that might be a tad bland compared to other ideas sets. Perhaps a collection of mini-builds of all the different levels that could be arranged to make a "map" of Crux's ruins, including a build for the Maelstrom.

The Venture Explorer, the Paradox research facility in Advent Gardens, the tree-locked Black Seas Barracuda, the many temples of Forbidden Valley, Wenn-Wuzzit's Time Machine, they could all make nice sets, but may be to heavily focused on a specific faction.

One big issue with an LU project is the minifigures. You aren't allowed to introduce new molds on Ideas, but almost all the notable characters have at least one custom molded piece. Thanks to things like NEXO Knights giving us an Duke style sword you could make substitutions, but still.

@Mata_Nui I'm surprised but glad to have your feedback! :classic: Believe it or not, the LU Ideas project still isn't finished after two years or so. I'm cooperating with @Umbra-Manis, we recently made a character poll, so feel free to check that out and vote:
