January 19, 1994

New Brickland

Mid-morning

53zOHX6.png

The session has begun.

XG5UV5i.jpg

Suddenly, the door swings open and the head of security storms in, followed by a black robed figure.

jomUdyR.jpg

The security guard begins punching in the combination to the Speaker's seat as the dark robed figure closes the door. "Wait, what are you doing?" Douglas begins.

90uQ6QY.jpg

"Hold on - I didn't call for security!"

11LcUWu.jpg

The legislature erupts as the guard grabs Douglas, slamming him against the counter.

"Agh!"

Outraged, all of the Old Dogs stand up tall. That is, all except for Peter, who can only stand up kind-of-tall.

swXlxbU.jpg

"Alright people - there's no need to cause a ruckus up in here -" the guard begins, "This guy right here has been plotting against the government - he's guilty of treason! He's been bought off by the Octan corporation to sell the government to them!"

The robed figure mounts the steps.

Sfo0REx.jpg

"W-what ever happened to a fair trial!?" Douglas stammers as he's forced down the steps.

"Move it!" the guard grunts at him.

JFVLQ2E.jpg

Stepping up the counter, the robed figure takes the gavel and brings it down hard. "Order!"

XnSRfCS.jpg

The figure stands in silence for a second before continuing.

"As I'm sure you know, I'm Justice Tate Montgomery. I'll be conducting a formal investigation of this matter of corruption, starting now. We've gotten an anonymous tip that Mr. London was not the only traitor amongst you - there are more. They will be dealt with swiftly.

First thing's first, though - you need to elect a new Speaker of this legislative body."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You have 24 hours to elect a new Speaker of the legislature.
Voting should be done in this format: Speaker: Player (Character)
The Speaker has unique legislative responsibilities, so choose wisely.
The Rules
1. Each player will be given a character to play, who will be aligned with either the Loyal Representatives or the Octan Corporation. To win the game, the Representaties must remove from office all the Octan Lobbyists, while the Octan Co. needs to outnumber the Reprsentatives. Third-Party (neutral) characters have their own win conditions as outlined in their roles.
2. Each day you will be able to vote to impeach a player. Voting should be done in the following format; Vote: Character (Player). Similarly, unvoting is to be done in the format; Unvote: Character (Player). No other format will be accepted. A majority vote is required to lynch a player.
3. A game day will last a maximum of 72 hours. You may not vote in the first 24 hours. The day will end when a majority vote has been reached. After the day has concluded, a night stage will commence, which will last a maximum of 48 hours. Night actions must be sent to the host in the first 24 hours of the night stage.
4. The alignment of impeached players, as well as those who are removed from office, will be revealed at the beginning of the following day.
5. You may not quote or pretend to quote anything sent to or from you in PM with the game host. This includes all the details of your character and role, as well as any night action results. Role claims and reporting of night action results are acceptable, but in your own words only. Do not attempt to use the structure of your role PM to your advantage.
6. Do not play the game outside the thread. Similarly, do not post out of character inside the thread; you must always play the role given to you. Game tactics and roles may only be discussed in the game thread or via PM with other players. Private discussion is done at your own risk and should be treated as part of the game.
7. If you are out of office, you may not post in thread or discuss the game with any of the players. Any information you had becomes void, and may not be passed on.
8. You may not edit your posts.
9. You must post in every day thread.
10. If you encounter a problem or have a question, please contact the host via PM.
11. Violation of the above rules will result in a warning from the host on your first offense, and a removal from the game on your second.
12. Violation of rule 7 will have a heavier penalty, made at the discretion of the Games Moderator.
Well, as you all know, I am a Loyal Representative. Some might even say, the loyalist of the loyal. Not I, I am for too humble to say such a thing. As a Loyal Representative, I volunteer for the position of speaker. I am a mere vanilla player, and if the speaker suffers from 'mayor syndrome', whereupon they are murdered one after the other (see the case study of Eurobricks Mafia's, 1 and 2), I will not be a massive loss to the town.
As well, I rather enjoy speaking.
Speaker: Speedy (Siegfried Dixon)
Wait, we're only impeaching these bastards? What ever happened to good old fashioned executions? Those were the days. Remember the great legislature lynchings of '58? We lost alot of great representatives that year. Ah, good times.
Anyway, as the oldest and longest serving among you, I feel it is my responsibility to take on the role of Speaker. I am well qualified for this position. As I'm sure you're all aware, I am usually capable of speaking. That one Friday night and last year's Christmas function don't count. Speaking of which, how are those drinks coming along, Justice Montgomery?
Oh dear, oh dear! Traitors wanting to sell the government to Octan? This is awful!
Well, as I do not know who is a traitor and who isn't I will vote for the one person I know for sure to be loyal.
Speaker: Calanon (Carol Nottingham)
I fear there is an element of copy-cattery going on. Certainly, after the results of the past few cases, the average team of Octans would not want me to be in any sort of power position. A coordinated "I AM SPARTACUS!" move might be a way to quickly defuse my bid for speakerdom. Logically, I expect the earliest participators to fight my logic, do the whole, "How would we know you are Loyal?" dance, and then accuse me of being Octan for trying to grasp at power. Not simply to mimic what I have already done.
Rutherford, Nottingham, consider yourselves on notice! This is a record early ping!
Yeah, it might be a little early to start calling people out, but I have to admit, Dixon, Rutherford, and Nottingham voted for themselves pretty quickly there. I'll do the "how do we know you're loyal" dance for all three of you right now. And ooooh, look, green text makes me sound more loyal.
I'm not impressed.
I think it's important to have a little sense of humour before getting uppity over green text.
Well now, isn't that a change of pace around here.
Now, my constituents want are young and dumb, so they want NEW and CHANGE and TRENDY and words like that. Since I am none of those, I shall not vote for myself as the new speaker. Instead I shall vote for one of the new legislators at random. I will roll a die here... got a 3. The third freshman is
Vote: adam (Archie Matthews)
Now I hear tales that this screen in my hand could have done the number for me, but I like the old ways with actual dice. I trust those.
(and my apologies for that extra "want" after constituents there. I should fire my speechwriter for such a lapse of attention to details. )
Ms. Molly, no speech? No reason for your vote? I understand you're new here, but still, some explanation is called for in these extreme times.
You could say I have quite a strong ego but I refuse to vote myself as speaker as well. I'd like to hear from some people who believe they are best suited as the speaker here. So, Siegfried Dixon, Peter Rutherford, and Carol Nottingham, would you kindly?
I'm inclined to abstain from voting at the moment. So long as we have time, I'd like to see if some solid conjectures on the allegiance of the candidates.
You and I have been legislating for many a year, and we both know that at this point, you are expected to apply for these sorts of leadership positions. For that reason, your application tells me very little about your allegiance. Certainly less than anyone else's.
Now, I'm not going to say that I'm the man for the job, but I will say that I am a man for the job. I have no way of proving that I'm a Loyal Representative at this point, but I can tell you now that I definitely am one.
What a quick turn of event, Montgomery certainly has a way of getting people going. And why am I not surprised, someone throws a bone out and the old dogs all go barking after it. dont you think you've had your time at the top? It's time for fresh leadership, leadership that my fellow veteran legislators and I could provide. We have experience, yet we aren't part of the establishment. I think we all know that the speaker was most friendly with his old dog pals, so I think it's time to get some fresh blood flowing in the front.
Experience and change, not more of the same! Experience and change, not more of the same!
By gravy! This is the only interesting thing that has happened in years! None of these morons would be capable of holding such an esteemed office as the speaker, however I do not feel like dealing with the problem myself, so I will vote:
Speaker: Speedy (Siegfried Dixon)
As he seems to be a bit less moronic than the rest.
To be honest, I just want to get my vote out of the way so that I can continue watching the Indy 500.
My God! Does this sort of thing always happen in assemblies?! It seems to me that most of the Old Dogs are voting for themselves, they could all be loyal, yes, but what if we get another Octan speaker? I don't want to call anyone out as an Octan-er, but I also don't want to accidentally vote for one and be looped in with them. I'm one of the new guys, so I'll just step back and let the Old Dogs do their work, they've been doing assemblies for years - of all of us, they might know what they're doing.
Well well, I don't have much else to do these days. Plenty of time! And furthermore, I have never voted for something in the past which turned out to be bad!
You may have a point, but I am very shocked Mr London was working for Octan. You will have your time, young man.
Siegfried Dixon (Speedy) - 3 (Speedy, Mencot, Brickelodeon)
Carol Nottingham (Calanon) - 1 (Calanon)
Speaking of which, how are those drinks coming along, Justice Montgomery?
I am nobody's waiter!
Vote: adam (Archie Matthews)
Voting has not opened yet. If you'd like to elect a speaker, please use this format: Speaker: Player (Character)
Well, well, this sure has been an interesting day so far. Everyone is doing as expected of them, old dogs fighting for top dog position, freshmen sitting back afraid to do anything, and us veterns left trying to sort out whats best for all.
I would prefer to have more options than just three (all old dogs) to choose from for our new Speaker postion. Surely there are others who would lead us with better qualifications. Speak up, stand up for the challenge to do whats right for all of us!
Well, shucks! :blush: I guess the real heroes are the kids who have greatness thrust upon them. I may only be 18, but shoot, maybe it makes sense for a freshman like me to step up to the plate. Mr. London had been around the block a few times and he turned out to be a mean-ole Octan Lobbyist: I think age and experience don't guarantee loyalty.
If you fine folks want a pitch, here it is. I may be young, but I have hope and I have energy! I have nothing but my word to show that I am a Loyal Representative, but I can also tell you that I'm a fresh alternative to these Old Dogs.
Speaker: Adam (Archie Matthews)
I've decided to tender my vote for Rep. Carol Nottingham. She answered the questions posed to her well enough, and therefore I trust her to be less manipulative and evasive than the other old dogs. Prior experiences also seem to testify to this as well.
Speaker: Calanon (Carol Nottingham)
